Prompt: In The Blithedale Romance, what is Hawthorne trying to illustrate about making the right decisions in life?

Ok, I seriously need help. When I read this book, which I hated with a passion, I could barely understand what the heck Hawthorne was talking about. Seriously, the writer needs help.

But--I need help on ideas/examples. I wrote:

In the Blithedale Romance, written by Nathanial Hawthorne, there is an underlying theme that is presented to the reader: that even in an “ideal” society, people can have trouble making the right decisions.

I've not read the book but I'm sure that you can find some information on it either at your local library or on the internet...
