Ok, so the race I created has a natural salve they used to treat wounds and prevent infection. I'm just wondering if there are any species of animals that produce that sort of substance.
It might be easier to list species that don't. Even humans produce in their saliva substances that prevent infection and speed up the healing process in combination with other mechanisms, such as bleeding and clotting, and behaviors, such as licking wounds clean or coating them with certain muds.
I suggest researching the behavior of wounded animals, and their physiology. Form follows function, and vice versa, which means that how a wounded animal treats its wound is tied to some physical (and likely already documented) aspect of its anatomy. For example, an animal licking wounds clean likely has antibacterial agents in its saliva.
When we are children we seldom think of the future. This innocence leaves us free to enjoy ourselves as few adults can. The day we fret about the future is the day we leave our childhood behind. — Patrick Rothfuss, The Name of the Wind
