That's right, we're back here again.

I've been working on this draft since last July and I would REALLY like to cut some progress out of it with Camp NaNo. Am I biting off more than I can chew since I have school? Maybe. But I did NaNo while in school so let's go.




25,000 words in the new draft. I wanted to go for 30k and really flex my writing muscles since I've been slacking, but I've been pretty extensively marking up the second draft as a part of revisions, and since that's going to take time, I decided to take it a little easier.

but I'm really, really pleased with how this draft is turning out. I'm overhauling A LOT more than I expected, and I'm testing the strengths and weaknesses and finding the weaker joints as I go, but this is the first time I've really felt like I'm making big progress in revisions and I'm very happy, so I'm going to try to take this energy into April.

Colonia Heights is the "yikes I'm an adult. but how do I do anything? I don't feel like an adult at all!" vibe, combined with wrestling with deep-seated and unresolved grief, the rage of being conditioned to act a certain way by society, and some spooky monsters. also there's magic.

I was actually planning on doing the PlanMo journals, but as I was going through the questions I've realised that I already did them all for July's Camp NaNo in 2021 so,,, I'm not going to just repeat myself because the answers are basically all the same lol

okay so it's kind of cheating but I am taking some chunks from the second draft (because they were good, fight me. also they're going through editing so mostly I'm not wholesale copying), but *flex* the progress made today makes me feel good.

chapter ten almost down! some character reveals! I'm very pleased that this scene is more tense now, because these two characters were too comfortable with each other too quickly.

me? making my characters worse? it's more likely than you think.

anyway, as per usual, I love this novel and these characters and I *fists clench* am just really excited for this story.

oops this chapter is getting,, longer than anticipated. here's hoping the DRAFT doesn't lolsob

writing was a little rougher yesterday, but I was rushing. the dialogue feels a little stilted and I think I repeated actions too much, so I may have to return to clean it up a little later (chapter 10, for future!mel)

anyway, I have yet to do any work today, but I'm going to go for a walk right now so I'll return,, in the future, eventually.

another chapter down!

I missed the third day before of homework lolsob but I'm still ahead enough that it's not too bad. I'm writing right now so I may or may not remember to update tonight when I finish.

I did leave myself with a bunch of notes for today's writing session though, so thank u @ past mel for finally being considerate of future mel.

I'm still writing, but session for 4/5 is done, so progress log gets updated.

I forgot how much I enjoyed writing ominous dreams <3 also, I think I hit a nail for Felicity and Nero's dynamic that I couldn't manage before but I'm? very here for it. I'll have to see how other people think of it though, because with the timeskip, it's a very abrupt change. I like how it works, but we'll see how it holds up.

Skipped yesterday, but I ended up talking to a friend longer than I thought I would yesterday night so I didn't post a log for 4/6.

I wrote 500-ish words during the same session I'd been writing for 5/5, and went "okay I'm done", stopped, and then a few minutes later went "actually I can finish this scene" and wrote another 500 words lol

I have bad time management skills and tried to take on Not Enough yesterday but at least I slid a bit in there

also 50k has been achieved

lmao I make an error somewhere, so I actually did not break 50k, but that's tbh better for me because I was like "??? I feel like,,, I have too much left to do??? the timeskip isn't supposed to be at the halfway mark???"

anyway. I made an argument that was in the first two drafts worse ^^

this whole draft has just been me going "what if I made all this worse?"
