Elevator Pitch: The Revolutionaries is a Victorian-era tale of fighting for yourself and carving a place to live and grow in a world that wants to suffocate you. Join our eclectic crew of Malvis, a well-meaning thief that's already lived this fight; Estella Fay, a recently freed sheltered rich girl; Saturn and Neptune, siblings that have hidden from the world; Cyra, a hot-headed guard with a taste for violence; and Artemis, who's seeking to find out what happened to her people. They will have to stand up against the wicked Prime Minister Victor Harris and survive their internalized storms lest they become just another failed revolution.

I aim to write a chapter daily and reach at least 30,000 words in total.

  4. Cyra
  5. Artemis
  6. The Supporting Cast

Malvis:

Image

Name: Malvis
Pronouns: She/her
Age: 25
Species: Human
Height: Can change, is usually around 1.72 metres, or 5'8".
Eye colour: Left eye is dark brown, right eye is entirely black.
Physical appearance: Since Malvis is an Illusionist, she can change most of her appearance at will. The exceptions are eye colour and injuries. However, she tends to have dark skin, deep red hair, and vitiligo across her face, shoulders, and arms.
Strange or unique physical attributes: Her hair tends to act as a mood ring, switching colours, textures, and lengths based on her emotional state. Deep red tends to be her base colour.
Favourite clothing style/outfit: Malvis tends to gravitate towards the colour red and early Victorian gothic styles.
Where do they live? What is it like there?: Malvis lives in a place called The Mist. The Mist is defined by its diverse population, lack of outside interference, and lack of currency and economy. People give to the larger society when they can, providing for those who can't provide for themselves. Families tend to consist of several parents and their collective children.
Defining gestures/movements: Malvis is well-versed in the Sicilian knife-fighting style, Paranza Corta, which is best for quiet assassinations and duels.
Things about their appearance they would most like to change: She wishes her hair was less expressive, but it does what it wants.
Speaking style: Malvis tends to be sarcastic and direct, almost to the point of bitterness. She doesn't like to be rude, but she also isn't one to sugarcoat.
Pet peeves: She hates being lied to and takes it incredibly personally if it's someone she loves, even if that person has a good reason.
Fondest memory: Malvis's fondest memory would be the first time she travelled London with two of her younger siblings, Zylphia and Tavish. Zylphia and Tavish were new to the country, and Malvis had already memorised the streets, so she acted as a tour guide while exploring.
Hobbies/interests: While Malvis is constantly polishing her knowledge of London and Paranza Corta, she's also a great dancer since Zylphia took the time to teach her. She loves dancing as a pair with them.
Special skills/abilities: Paranza Corta and dance.
Insecurities: Malvis defines herself as a leader and protector. When these traits are questioned, she becomes unsure of herself and her worth.
Quirks/eccentricities: Malvis is a silent walker and tends to accidentally sneak up on people with trying, startling most of the crew.
Temperament: Malvis is excellent at staying calm under stress and very level-headed. However, once the lives of the people she loves are threatened, she can quickly become reckless and short-sighted.
Negative traits: Malvis can come off as cold in how she speaks and often lands in more dangerous situations when she panics. She tends to misread criticism as a personal attack and can be very defensive.
Things that upset them: Being lied to, her loved ones being in danger, and being questioned.
Things that embarrass them: She's easily embarrassed by being wrong.
This character is highly opinionated about: Rich people.
Any phobias?: No. No phobias.
Things that make them happy: Malvis is happy when surrounded by those she loves, and everyone is safe. Being around people she cares for is usually enough to lift her spirits.
Family (describe): Malvis's family consists of her parents, the MiA Hilda and Felix, the late Cyril, Betsy, Wilma, Manie, and Sinclair, as well as her younger siblings Denton, Zylphia, and Tavish. Initially, her family was just Hilda, Felix, Cyril, Betsy, Wilma, Malvis, and Denton, but Hilda and Felix disappeared when she was ten, and Cyril died when she was twelve. Finally, when she was fourteen, Manie and Sinclair joined the family with their two kids, the twins Zylphia and Tavish. Her family has stayed the same ever since.
Deepest, darkest secret: Malvis's fear of failing is her deepest secret.
The reason they have kept this secret for so long: Throughout the series, many people will look up to Malvis as a leader and a beacon. She believes that if she expressed her fear, the others would fall apart.
Other people's opinions of this character: People who know Malvis know her as a fierce, protective leader that sticks to her ideals even if it's inconvenient. However, a slew of people only know her for what she is: A Mister, a dirty, poor common thief with no decency and worth.
Favourite books: Malvis is dyslexic and struggles with reading, so she doesn't have a favourite book.
Favourite foods: Malvis is a simple gal who loves bread.
Religion/philosophy of life: Agnostic theist (the belief that there is a god or gods out there, but it is inherently unknowable).
Physical health: Malvis is healthy.
Description of their house: Back in the Mist, she lives in a three-story house where each story is dedicated to a different family.
Description of their room: Everyone in Malvis's family shares a room with everyone in her family, with very little space or desire for personal belongings.
Any pets? No.
The best thing that has ever happened to this character: The best thing to happen to Malvis so far is having Denton, Zylphia, and Tavish in her life.
The worst thing that has ever happened to this character: The worst thing to happen to Malvis so far is losing Zylphia and Tavish.
Superstitions: Malvis believes that a person's hateful soul can affect their environment. A hateful person creates a hateful home. A hateful country creates a hateful world.
Three words to describe this character: Passionate, protective, and dedicated.
If a song played every time this character walked into a room, what song would it be? Burn the White Flag by Joseph.

Strange or unique physical attributes: The backs of her hands are littered with thin scars that she hides with white gloves.
Favourite clothing style/outfit: Estella Fay tends to stick with dark blue dresses that are a little plain for her family's social rank.
Where do they live? What is it like there?: Estella Fay lives in a neighbourhood known as The Street of Kings because of its housing for the rich and political. However, she isn't familiar with the dynamics of the district because she is not allowed to participate due to having Tourette's Syndrome.
Defining gestures/movements: Estella Fay has several nervous tics, such as fidgeting with her gloves, biting her lip, and swaying.
Things about their appearance they would most like to change: A part of Estella Fay wishes she could get rid of her wings because of the heavy legal restrictions on them.
Speaking style: Estella Fay is a prim and proper gal that speaks politely, except when her brain-to-mouth filter turns off and whatever she thinks pops out.

Fondest memory: Her fondest memories would be her and Artemis staying up late, chuckling to themselves and whispering so they don't wake anyone.

For the first five years of her life, she was close to her older brother Lucian James and her two younger sisters, Illene Jane and Lucy Hazel. However, at five years old, the symptoms of Tourette's Syndrome (not yet officially discovered) became increasingly evident until her parents finally isolated Estella Fay to her room. They stopped visiting when she was ten. After that, her abusive governess was the only person she spoke to for many years.
Deepest, darkest secret: It's not a secret, but she never talks about her fear of inadequacy.
The reason they have kept this secret for so long: She assumes everyone around her already knows, so she doesn't see the point in constantly reminding them.
Other people's opinions of this character: Almost everyone can smell her inferiority complex from a mile away, so many view her through her tendency to doubt herself and doubt her too.
Favourite books: Lyrical Tales by Mary Robinson
Favourite foods: Sweets, especially fudge.
Religion/philosophy of life: Catholic
Physical health: She is physically healthy.

Three words to describe this character: Kind, nervous, and chatty.
If a song played every time this character walked into a room, what song would it be? We’re on Our Way by Radical Face

Saturn

Image

Name: Saturn “Smith”
Pronouns: He/him
Age: 27
Species: Ukayan (You-kay-in) (The Ukayan are an alien race from the aquatic planet Ukaya. They crash-landed in England after destroying Ukaya with a centuries long war. After the Prime Minister at the time discovered their existence, he raptured all known Ukayan. To this day no one knows where they are or what happened to them. But, a few Ukayan escaped into the cities, raising families in the shadows.)
Height: 1.5 metres or 4’11”
Eye colour: Teal
Physical appearance: Saturn has long white hair that he always ties back into a ponytail. He shaves the sides of his head. His skin is navy blue with a spray of white freckles across his face.
Strange or unique physical attributes: How short he is compared to everyone else.
Favourite clothing style/outfit: Saturn is a fashionable man, switching seamlessly between masculine and feminine clothing. Yes, even in the Victorian era.
Where do they live? What is it like there?: Saturn lives in the basement of a family friend’s bakery. It smells like bread and he lives in constant fear of being caught.
Defining gestures/movements: Saturn tends to talk with his hands.
Things about their appearance they would most like to change: Saturn wishes he appeared stronger so he was a bit more intimidating.
Speaking style: Saturn tends to be placating, carefully choosing words that are less controversial in order to make as many people happy as he can.
Pet peeves: Saturn loves a good debate, but he hates bad debaters.
Fondest memory: Saturn’s fondest memory as when his father, Minoris, first shaved the side of Saturn’s head after his little sibling Neptune was born. (In Ukayan culture, the eldest child of the family shaves one side of their head to mark themselves as the oldest. After their parents die, they shave both sides of their heads.)
Hobbies/interests: Saturn is a Jack of all trades, but his main passions are sewing, shooting, and debate.
Special skills/abilities: Saturn’s great at sewing clothes (especially dresses), shooting pistols (he tends to duel-wield), and he writes great newspaper articles under the pen name Castor Russ.
Insecurities: Saturn worries that he is nothing if he’s not of service.
Quirks/eccentricities: Saturn is that one guy that has way too many skills for no good reason. Mostly things he picked up to held around the bakery to repay the owners for breaking the law to house him and Neptune
Temperament: Saturn is very peaceful and tends to go with the flow. (In layman’s terms, he’s vibing.)
Negative traits: Saturn tends to spread himself too thin and focuses on everyone else’s needs but his own.
Things that upset them: Saturn gets upset when he can’t do something or is unable to help someone.
Things that embarrass him: Saturn is pretty much shameless. Hardly anything can embarrass him. That does not apply, however, to second-hand embarrassment.
This character is highly opinionated about: Common political debates such as the future of the prison system and public school.
Any phobias?: Acrophobia (fear of heights).
Things that make them happy: Helping others and mastering a new skill makes Saturn happy.
Family (describe): Saturn lived with his parents Minoris and Capella and his younger sibling Neptune until he was nine. At that point, Capella contracted tuberculosis, and sent Saturn and Neptune away to live with their family friends Edwin and Nellie. Minoris caught it as well and they both died when he was twelve. Since then, Saturn and Neptune have lived in Edwin and Nellie’s basement, away from prying eyes.
Deepest, darkest secret: He’s never told Neptune this, but their parents had multiple miscarriages in between Saturn and Neptune, which is the main reason for their age gap.
The reason they have kept this secret for so long: He doesn’t know how to tell Neptune that. How does one say, “oh, by the way, you could’ve had three other siblings”?
Other people's opinions of this character: Many see Saturn as dependable and a little odd, like he had too much free time as a kid and he drove himself insane.
Favourite books: He can’t choose.
Favourite foods: Pastries
Religion/philosophy of life: Saturn operates through life based on his own moral code of being kind to others and building the world as you want it to be.
Physical health: Saturn is physically healthy.
Description of their house: Saturn lives in the bakery of Edwin and Nellie Smith. The main floor is the kitchen and shop, and the upstairs in Edwin and Nellie’s living area. Saturn and Neptune live in the basement.
Description of their room: The basement is used for storage, with an area set aside for two beds, a table, and a dresser.
Any pets?: No.
The best thing that has ever happened to this character: So far, Neptune being born and meeting Cyra are the best things to ever happen.
The worst thing that has ever happened to this character: So far, his parents dying and growing up in a world where his existence is illegal.
Superstitions: Saturn strongly believes in karma.
Three words to describe this character: Chill, dependable, and convincing.
If a song played every time this character walked into a room, what song would it be? Burn the House Down by AJR

Any phobias?: No.
Things that make them happy: It's in Artemis's nature to have a pack, a group of people who provide for each other and protect one another. Right now, she only has Estella Fay, but she would love to have a pack again someday. That would make her happy.

She was separated from Yolanda and Hestia and believed them dead with the rest of the sleuth.
Deepest, darkest secret: Artemis doesn't want to avenge the death of her sleuth. She wants to move on, to stop grieving and thinking about it.
The reason they have kept this secret for so long: Wolves will die to protect their pack. Artemis couldn't save them, so she feels honour bound to avenge them.

Superstitions: Only if you believe Catholicism to be superstitious.
Three words to describe this character: Happy, loyal, and grieving.

Supporting Cast

Neptune: Neptune is Saturn's genderfluid sibling. They're a significant side character present in the story from the beginning and the first follower of The Revolutionaires. They suffer from Congenital Rubella Syndrome, giving them cataracts and a severe heart condition. An avid lover of science fiction novels, they hope to one day achieve the renowned genius of their beloved heroes.

Lin: Artemis first met Lin in the English brown bear sleuth she joined when first arriving in England. Lin acts like your traditional Englishmen, except he lives in the woods and turns into a massive brown bear. He was separated from the sleuth in the attack, so he returned to their original home, hoping that someone would return. He has explored the forests in the two years since the attack, becoming a talented scout. Artemis meets him again when travelling through the woods to Portsmouth, where she and the group come across some English guards and is forced to flee. She smells Lin's scent, and it leads them right to him.

Prime Minister Victor Harris: While the Prime Minister doesn't make a direct appearance in this book, he acts as the series's main villain due to his crooked policies and harsh treatment of minorities. His reach is massive, his arrogance unbounded, and his rule hopefully limited.

James du Cane: That's a surprise tool to help us later!

Things about their appearance they would most like to change: Lin wishes he looked a little less commonplace, but he's learned to live with it.

Pet peeves: Lin tends to be annoyed by pessimistic thinking. He prefers to think positively, even if it's a foolish venture.

Temperament: Lin is peaceful enough. He doesn't like to impose.
Negative traits: Lin can idealize very quickly, creating scenarios in his head that are bound to disappoint him.
Things that upset them: He hates when anyone points out the flaws in his thinking. He wants to imagine his happy ending in peace.
Things that embarrass them: He's embarrassed by the silly childhood stories Artemis will tell the group.
This character is highly opinionated about: What the Prime Minister's doing to search and "weed out" Igni.
Any phobias?: No.
Things that make them happy: Nature makes him happy.
Family (describe): He had a great relationship with his family. His father, Silas, was his biggest supporter and was the only one to know the forest better than he did. He knows the magic stuff was a fairytale, but he's loved rocks ever since. His brothers, Bennett and Hayden, would tease him when he blushed at pretty boys and stumbled over his words. When the attack happened, he was crushed. He desperately needs them to be alive.
Deepest, darkest secret: He doesn't really believe that his family's alive.
The reason they have kept this secret for so long: He'll break down if he admits that to himself. He can't handle the weight of their deaths, of never seeing them again.

It’s starting! I’m so excited.

I was fully aware that my decision to rob the yellow mansion on the corner would most likely be my death. I grew up on horror stories of such exploits, thieves who picked the wrong doors and Gatherers who chose the wrong house to rob. After all, Misters aren’t known for taking on any job and killing themselves for it; no, they were the shadows of society, those who played their cards correctly every time.

Unfortunately, I was a little low on cards at the moment.
