Her smile got genuine for a moment as she shook his hand. Okay he was cute. Tadaaki had a slight smile on his lips as well as he watched, though he made sure to shift as the lad approached so that Ky was still directly between him and the boy. Just to be safe.

"Why don't you two have a seat?" Sara suggested. "Mattathias, come on back so we can start eating." Mattathias dashed back to his seat as servants brought out food.

“Yes’m.” Ky and Tadaaki both dipped their heads and started quickly, but cautiously, back towards the table. They had no idea where to sit whatsoever, other than ‘close’ to Lord Ash. They hoped someone would be more specific.

Emery took a seat two spots down from Gaius, leaving room for Ky and Tadaaki on that side. "Where are you from?" Marcella asked curiously.

Tadaaki felt like an asshole for hiding behind Ky, but, well, she’d been in noble dining rooms before; he had not. He was going to make her pick her seat first, then realized that if he wanted her to be in a state he could metaphorically hide behind, then she needed to be physically further from Ash. Not that it actually mattered to anything but her own anxiety. But he understood.
So he pulled her chair out for her and then took his own seat closest to Ash.
He didn’t like this feeling.
Not at all.
“The South, miss,” Ky answered, sitting down between Emery and Tadaaki and looking at the little girl. “I grew up in Austraka; he’s from Totalissa.”

"Wow, that's far! Is it really really hot there?" she asked. "How do you stay cool?"

"You can swim?" Mattathias asked in awe. "That's so cool! Nobody up here can do that."

“I imagine not,” Ky said with a little smile. “It’d be miserable to swim in a climate like this; swimming is only fun when it’s very hot.”

"I wanna learn to swim!" "Perhaps next time I go South I'll take you with me," Gaius suggested. Mattathias's eyes lit up.

Ky smiled a little, glancing at Ash. She was surprised he knew how to swim. Both because of being a Northerner and because she didn’t imagine you’d be able to swim with a leg like that. But. Well. That was none of her business. She glanced at Lady Ash next, trying to get a read on her. She seemed kind.

(He most certainly does not; he's gonna get the boy lessons)
Sara caught her eye. "Where do you like to swim?" she asked. "Do you prefer fresh water or the sea?"

“No strong preference, ma’am.” She smiled a little. “Freshwater is a bit easier since you don’t have to fight the waves; but the sea is fun for the same reason. I did a fair bit of both.”
