He walked Gaius toward where they'd left the horses at the tavern.

Tadaaki went slightly ahead and got Gaius’s horse ready, still staying near enough to be a deterrent if needed.

One person surged forward, an old man with a long braided beard and a farmer's tan. He reached for Gaius's cloak, but in an instant Bay's sword was out, nicking the man on the side of the neck. The man cried out in pain and stumbled back. Gaius, trembling, allowed Bay to guide him to the horse and help him onto it.

Tadaaki started, but it was over before it really began so instead he just held Gaius’s horse as steady as possible for him and watched intently, hoping that nothing else would happen. This was intense.

“Sure thing.” Tadaaki nodded and flipped the reins up so Gaius would be able to reach them, glancing around. “… we’re all heading back now, right?” He wasn’t sure if they’d what was being implied or not.

(We were mostly joking to get reactions lol it’d be badass to get a gar but our tank won’t be anywhere near big enough for them, sadly. I think we will end up with some native minnows)

Tadaaki wanted to point out that ambushes weren’t expected— that was literally the point of an ambush. But he didn’t have the balls. Nor was he going to question the captains security measures. So he dipped his head. “Very well. Be safe.”

(I was just being obnoxious but you’re probably right honestly haha I did my masters on a loose relative to guppies so they’ve got a place in my heart)
