“No.” Jerica shook her head. Just been reading about Strithr, but she’d learned her lesson about mentioning them. “What other ones are there?”

"Loads and loads. Too many to count."
"The Marrow Man," Viol noted. "And the tale of the Raven."

"Gods. Men." She shook her head. "The usual. The Marrow Man's a tragic one, and gruesome. A warrior offended the god of life and was cursed to roam forever as a half man, half goat."

(Omg what if Jer runs into him while he's on his way to the Keep)

(Oh gawd that would be a disaster lol)

Jerica was ready to scoff that off. But now she wasn’t so sure. It seemed the gods might be real. Or maybe she was just a dope. But she was drunk enough to entertain it. “Whaaat? Which god?”

(He would probably win in a fight)

"Fjori, the Builder. His sacred animal is a goat. The warrior was starving and saw one, so he killed and ate it, then took some of its blood home to cure his ailing child. Fjori was angry and cursed him."

(Oh 100% he’s the freaking marrow man she’s toast but would still probably try lol then just piss him off good and thoroughly… I wonder if he’d be able to smell pheromones similar to Ky on her? Or maybe she could be with Rek and he see the similarity? … or maybe she just gets her ass thrashed and he like audibly reminds himself that he promised Ky not to kill people and Jer gets her head out of her ass and realizes he’s sentient lol)
(Also I like the added detail of blood — that’s a unique twist!)

“Well that’s shitty,” Jerica scoffed. “How was he to know that?”

(I think the final option is most likely to happen so I'd go with that)

(And yeah I think I mentioned it back when I first wrote the story but I only recently remembered that detail. Thanks!)

"He should have known better." Viol shrugged. "He was also cursed with endless hunger. He ate people--eats people, if you believe he's real."

“How could he have known better?” Jerica countered. “Was there a giant ‘do not eat — god’s goat’ sign next to the goat?”

(Yeah totally fair lol I’m always down for Jerica to get humbled, mostly because it never actually works xD she got all of the ego Ky didn’t, then some)

"The stories said not to," Helge explained.

“What stories? Did he know them? Did he know they were real?” Why was she getting so involved in a myth?

"I mean--" Helge glanced at Viol. "Um. Obviously he'd know them they've been passed down for generations, especially back then."

“Right, but, like.” She furrowed her brow. “Did he know they were real, though? Like. I don’t hide from the boogey man. I don’t check under my bed when I’ve been naughty.” Usually. “Because I don’t think it’s real. How could he be expected to know if a story that outlandish was real? Was he just supposed to believe every single wives tale and starve to death just in case?”

"The gods are real," Viol said with a shrug. "Why shouldn't the stories about them be real? Back then stories had weight. They were a history."
