Luke nodded. “Sounds good. House special? You remember how to make it?”
Yes, Sarah knew how to make the Edwin House Special for… undisclosed none of your business don’t bother asking reasons. Don’t worry about it.

Rek split his attention between the bandits and the dishes, not even noticing that Acacia had removed her mask. He wasn’t worried about the other hostages… mostly. At least, wasn’t worried about them attacking him. And he was trying to be as prepared as possible for the food to be done and served so he’d be less stressed overall. This was a nice break from the tension in the main room but he was still stewing in anxiety.

Rek finally glanced over at her at the sigh, and his mouth gaped open for a brief moment before he caught himself. Then he snapped it shut and turned back around quickly, getting back to work hopefully before the bandits noticed. Was that—?
No.
It couldn’t be… could it?

He decidedly refused to look back at her, not wanting the bandits to realize anything was up. Or Luke or Sarah either, for that matter. How was he supposed to… explain? Better yet, how was he supposed to process something like this? His childhood friend grew up to be a legendary assassin, and now here they both were stuck in an alehouse in a hostage situation. What. The. Heck?

He looked at her with a scowl. "What are you gawking at?"

"Get to work," he snarled. "Or get out of the kitchen."

Luke gestured to the pantry. “You get the dry ingredients. I’ll take care of the wet ones.”

News of the robbery hadn’t spread across town, so as Nathaniel strolled from shop to shop, he had no idea that his tavern was under siege or his daughter was in danger. His wife was two towns over, so it would just be the two of them for the week, but he didn’t mind. Anyone who knew Nathaniel knew he was incredibly domestic.
Currently, he was winding his way through an open-air market, prodding the occasional produce and chattering with whoever stood behind the stall. Luke could handle themself, after all. He trusted her.
