There are many reasons I love the sky, but one of the biggest is the comfort that it gives me. In the midst of chaos, all I'd need to do is watch the sky and feel happy all over again.

So, when it came to naming my journal, I knew it was going to be Sky. And how long I and Sky have known each other now! I have a collection of journals that I've kept over the years, writing diligently to an eternal friend. And this NaPo, I'm hoping to select my most meaningful and impactful entries, and turn it into poetry.

I can explore myself, and the world around me, while building up my poetry skills at the same time! <3 two birds with one stone!

It's a little scary to think I'm actually taking my journal as inspiration, it makes me feel vulnerable, but you know what they say about moving outside comfort zones! I'm ready to do that if it means I'll discover something new, something beautiful, by the end.

It makes me feel honored that you who is reading this, will be a part of that journey <3 thank you, and I wish you the best in your days!

0. Sky

Image

My eyes automatically seek your beam
when the tightrope underneath
gives away.
The scent of sorrow, the sound of silent screams,
dyeing my vain armoury
and my heart

Your kaleidoscope wraps the Earth all over
like a present for the Sun,
or for me?
The clouds roll over you like snow, or hug you
like a blanket, and sometimes,
there's nothing.

The Sun, the moon, the stars, all the dreams of space
flutter in, out, you're their home,
like you're mine.
Can I gaze at you all through the day and night?
Through sunrise, moonlight, stardust,
and beyond?

And when the clouds settle around the Sun like
foam at the top of coffee,
pain ceases.
I belong nowhere else but in your embrace.
Oh, to fly and dance with you,
know your voice.

Buildings burn, you remain. Wars wage, but you stay.
Nobody could crumple you
or touch you
As long as you hold your ground, I don't mind if
I lose mine, for I know I
will survive

cute little quotes about the sky from my entries:

4th January 2021-
The rain is so comforting, it's like it's asking me if I'm okay, when nobody else is.
I've been appreciating the sky so much more these days too, it makes me so happy.
Hey, Sky, can I ask you to rain too?
Haha, of course not, but it feels pretty to think so.

When I watched the clouds today, I was fascinated by how some of them bursted with white puffs of gas, then slowly reintegrated, thread of gas by thread of gas, before clumping together and travelling across the sky, and then the cycle repeats. It was so so so mesmerising and beautiful.

1. I am

I'm a dandelion, upright and arrogant
In vain, my ice-petals will veil my fears.

I'm a million shards of glowing glass
Neon blue electricity flows in my tears.

I'm a gold speck in each baby ray of light
Swirling inside the irises of a goldeneye.

I'm a pulsating vein locked in the glistening
emerald hue of a leaf in its first fly.

And I am a rushing fall of petals
from a bouquet that was meant to reach
the palms of another universe.

Yet, I landed on the soft grass, all by mistake,
a heartbeat after I scattered into a thousand feelings unsent.

I'm left with all these pieces I can't fix together
Will I never know which flower I was meant to represent?

(how many of you cringed at that handwriting on the journal belongs to thing? XDDDDD I was trying to replicate my old handwriting from 2017 and it looks trashy, which means I did a good job imitating it XD)

The inspiration for this poem started from these lines from my entry on 31st January 2021.

There are all these sides of me, each one having a different reason behind them. And I suppose as I mature, I'll begin to embrace all these facets of me, but what about this "me"? Who am I really? What's my actual personality?
I'll figure it out soon though, all in due time, as they say. But I suppose this thought will haunt me nonetheless.

Hiya Euph! I love your poems here <333 I love how 'Sky' seems to end so peacefully. And 'I am' presents the idea of ~the self~ in such an interesting and beautiful way!

My favourite lines/ images were:

The clouds roll over you like snow, or hug you
like a blanket

--> The way the first image kind of melts into the next one is so vivid and lovely and the contrast between 'snow' and 'blanket' really makes the sky seem so mutable and gorgeous at every stage of change.

the clouds settle around the Sun like
foam at the top of coffee

--> That was such an unexpected and lovely comparison! I can really see it now @_@

Buildings burn, you remain. Wars wage, but you stay.

--> This line is so?? Poignant and lovely!!

Then from 'I am':

I'm a dandelion, upright and arrogant
In vain, my ice-petals will veil my fears.

--> This first couplet is so full of personality, the image of the dandelion immediately had me hooked! "ice-petals" is such a lovely, crisp and piercing image as well.

I also love how in each consecutive stanza you focus on a small intricate detail in a different colour! Like stanza 1 feels white or pale yellow, stanza 2 is blue, stanza 3 is gold, stanza 4, emerald, and so on . . .

Long story short you're doing really great, Euph and I really enjoyed reading these! <3
