Thanks @killehan! I think it's a better representation of the concept of the poem. This is my first time really experimenting with formatting and line breaks.

i am a whirlpool wearing a silk cloak of soft skies and sunny weather but don't mistake my softness as frailty, for i am a storm distilled into what once was a slip of a girl and one day you will pay attention to the woman (behind the curtain) i am

I have left my heart at the altar only to be jilted many times but I have also left them waiitng arms open, ready to receive me
but when they got too close retreating, recoiling was not just easy it was instinct
I’m the runaway bride sneaking out of the cathedral at midnight clinging to the shadows because they may trail me but their tendrils can’t ensnare me in a shackled embrace
I don’t know what it’s like to be so close to someone That I can feel their heart resting against mine the beats synching together (and I’m not sure if I want to know either)
this game of touch and go might be the death of me, but it’s the only life I know

she held me in her hand soft and eager, pliable like a ball of Putty, as the walls of her fists closed in around me, I became a contortonist my contours mirroring hers, a distortion of angles and curves bent into an abstraction she called art

like a plastic surgeon, she traced my skin in trails of dotted lines seams to fold along to make me into something new: a bird with clipped wings
she found out (the hard way) that cutting my roots would only make them grow back, thicker and more stubborn, but it's impossible to sprout new wings I could fashion a new pair like Icarus, but they would only be a poor substitute

insipid kisses won't revive this relationship holding me can't make me love you or make you be loved more you can carve my name in the sky all night until the bleeding sun rises, but all this stardust won't uncross our stars we are two galaxies never meant to exist in the same universe, let alone the same sky we are much too empty and too vast trying to engulf the other to hide the blackholes in our hearts that not even the light in our stars can fill
