Okay, so I really want to do the "sonnet from the Pentametron" thing that I joked about earlier. For those who don't know, the Pentametron is a Twitter-bot that scans public tweets for iambic pentameter and retweets them in couplets. So for a sonnet, I have to find couplets that work (sometimes it screws up) and put them in a sonnet-like order.

Let's just [sic] the whole thing. Also probably language.

15. A sonnet of the modern age

Come on and SLAM! And welcome to the JAM!
come on and twist a little closer now
SO FUCKING OVER SCHOOL ALREADY DAMN
Much Many Many information wow
I'm single as in me myself and I
I hear the voices of an ancient race
I'm going to attempt an edit sigh
Free pizza makes the world a better place
communication is Sometimes a Joke
I've got a feeling something isn't right
She didn't pee herself, her water broke!!!
These Bitches Be Evolving Overnight
not letting anyone in like before
game doesn't even matter anymore

Okay, so I was messing around today and started looking at poetry apps. I found two that I really like and have already used to create poems

Verses (free but you may want to purchase extra dictionaries): This is classic "refrigerator magnet" poetry, except on your phone. Oh, and it has a cute little owl, so naturally I'm biased :P. It gives you a bunch of words (you can choose how many "old school", "new school" and small words you want) and you rearrange them to make a beautiful poem! Here is my first attempt
Spoiler! :
Image

The other app I tried is called ThePoetryApp. This one does a bunch of cool things! You can explore a bunch of different poets and several of their poems. Oh but you don't just get to read them...you can also hear and/or see them performed by famous actors! I only tried this with one poem so far (W.H Auden's "Tell Me the Truth About Love" read by Ralph Fiennes...and yes, I had to look him up to realize that he plays Voldemort. So download this app to hear poems read by Voldemort. :P)

This app also has a section called "My Poems" where you can write (and record) your own poems. The coolest part of this is "Inspire Me" where you can scroll through word banks from the poets to get you started. I wrote this one using the Emily Dickinson word bank.

16. Bitter Light

Bitter light,
so shocking in its strangeness.
Ferocious extremes
color our world
in elegant longing.

Okay, so it's rainy/windy over here by my nest, which somehow ended up giving me a song idea. Of course, I don't have a lot yet, just a partial chorus and some lines for the verse...

17. Umbrella in the Wind (working title)

I was moved by you
like an umbrella by the wind
A kiss under the spring moon,
what a way for us to begin

As the storms rolled through
Still I held on to you tight
??? idk
The magic of that night

CHORUS:
We danced like rain on soil
and fought like rain on glass
It didn't matter to me
We moved way too fast
We moved way too fast

VERSE 2:
I was burned by you
like summer sun on pale skin

Also, another app I found called FridgePoems. This one is fun...you can customize the color of the fridge! Also you get a lot more words at a time than Verses. Anyway, that led to this creation.

18. Spring Tongues

run through all the wax
as you show lust
how spring tongues whisper
beneath the moon

Weirdly enough, that's kind of related to my song idea...

18. sorry for being crazy

i'm sorry if i talk too fast
and drink too much
and can't sleep sometimes.

i'm sorry that i disappear some afternoons,
returning with a cartoon band-aid inside my elbow.
it's not my fault doctors only work in business hours
and that the medicine that saves me could also kill me.

i'm sorry that i claimed to fall in love
when it was really just the manic want
of someone to hold onto.

i'm sorry that i pushed everyone away.
it's like they were all relics from a time before
and it hurts too much to go back.

most of all, i'm sorry
that i can't reach into my DNA
and pull out those genes
so i don't have two poles to hide anymore.

Two more inspired by the FridgePoems app.

19. rosy destruction

rose seas grew
from hydrothermal thorns
where salt dances with mantle
and makes the basin bubble.

forest slip into rose seas,
the disengaged chlorophyll
dissolved and the green ran away
with nothing here to reflect it.

mountains run from thorny sea
growing higher and steeper until
there are no gentle rolling hills anymore.

20. Symphonies

Symphonies do not
speak just one language.

I have never met a tuba
that could speak violin.

Thanks for the prompt @magpie. Your points will be arriving shortly

21. Glass Vows

The TV was blaring when I walked in.
Those stupid sitcom reruns he watches
every god-damn night.

I guess I'm not as entertaining.

honey can we talk?
Silence.

Dear, there's something I need to...
Shut up, this is my favorite part!

Babe I really think you...
Can't it wait ten minutes?

I slept with Ben.
He joins that ancient laugh track.

I'm not sure this is working anymore.
He guzzles his beer.

I've been packing all day. Try and stop me.
Uh huh, okay, sure, good night

By the next commercial break, I was long gone.

Spoiler! :
Okay, so there's one that sounded better in my head. Also if you're reading this, you should submit more prompts in my contest. :)

Okay, so this is another technology fueled venture. I was looking for something else entirely and came across http://www.runokone.com/makeapoem/index.php. You answer their questions, then it mixes them up to make a poem. One caveat: they publish this creation immediately (although at least it just says this instead of hiding behind legalese). So below is what mine spit out, modified for some more grammatical sense.

22. if I burn

i tiptoe north
craving Santorini to chug sunny fall.
chandeliers are swinging;
a bear is raging lightning fast.

i would travel if i burn.
with the creepy man
above you.

I have some ideas, but I really need to sleep right now, so I will leave you with snippets so I don't forget entirely.

Spoiler! :
Time is not linear, even seconds leap.

Leaving is easy, it's coming back that's hard.

Oh body, please be tired. It's not so hard.
Oh brain, please re-balance. Is that so hard?

23. mania is sort of like
the fucking Trans-Siberian railway
of trains of thought

Spoiler! :
So yes, I think I'm not in the best place right now. This may be the end of this NaPo thread and even for the site for a while. I do think I will come back to round out 30 poems ASAP.

Okay, so I fell short at the end because my brain hates me. But I still want to try to finish. Unfortunately, nearly everything I've written is too personal for me to post. Except for this chorus that is hunting for verses.

24. Will I live through the day?
I don't know, I never know
Will I walk through the flames?
I don't know, I never know
Will I burn or fade away?
I don't know, I never
Will I ever be okay?
I don't know I never know.

Ok, I'm adding to this mainly because this is one of those if-I-don't-write-it-I'll-forget-it moments.

You'd tell the world today
But you can't scare them away
And right now you're all alone
in a place where no one knows

Yet another partial song about being crazy. "Descent into Madness" would have really been an appropriate thread title. :P
