The Night

The night screeches
Like a barn owl scared into flight
The red car's wheels spin
And smack into the Volvo's headlight

Like an eye searching for the light
And I stare in horror at the explosion of burning glass
Soaring through the twinkling night sky
The eye blackened and lost

My heart tightens when the darkness disappears, the evening engulfed in flames
And as I watch the daunting terror in my father's eyes
I feel so far away
Like everything is a thousand miles away

I hear only the sound
Only the low throaty chirruping of a cricket
Playing like a drumbeat
Beneath the eternal flame of the Sun

Wonder

Birds
Fly
Out the
Bright green grass
I watch in wonder
As they soar through the clear blue sky
Colourful creatures spiralling towards the heavens
In quick flashes of feathers and glimmers of shimmering white sunlight silhouetting them

Thunder

Lightning strikes
Pouncing at the earth with an arching hand
Fingers curling up and splitting out into forks of white electricity
That burns the air with its fiery tongue
Lashing out like a whip
And striking a tree
Moving as fast as only light can
The limbs of the tree burst out in a torrent of burnt wood
Raining through the sky
Like fat globs of ice that bombard the earth
The rain spurting out hazy sheets of water
Like a misty bank of fog flung against the ground in never ending torrents

The beautiful reflection of the night sky
