April 14 - The Stars
(This is my only haiku, I promise)

the stars above sing
with stories from the legends
so beautiful are they.

All our dreams can come true — if we have the courage to pursue them.

April 15th - The Galaxy
(This is basically a revision of an earlier poem)

When I was small, you showed the stars --
glittering eyelets against night's endless black sheet.
It was then that I wondered what lied beyond
what it would it would be like to be there, really there --
in school they showed us pictures of comets
and stars but I knew
it would be nothing like the real thing.
My life's not too exciting here -
so why not put me on a rocket, 'til I burst through the exosphere?
I may not be the first to see the moon in all it's splendor
but that does not matter.

Take me to where all is black, all is silent;
beautiful.
take me to where I my fly like a bird
on a rocket, without gravity
where my life is in danger at every moment
but the beauty will be worth it.

All our dreams can come true — if we have the courage to pursue them.

April 16th - Sunset

You came with me to watch the sunset;
pink pastel and orange, melded together like one.
It was cold, and you brought coffee, with lemon
and honey; just the way I like it.
and I could help but appreciate
the innocence, the beauty and the wonder.

All our dreams can come true — if we have the courage to pursue them.

April 17th - Madeleine

You came to me one day,
an image in my mind - innocent you were then.
Little did I know how you'd change my world
as I tried to get your story right
through cups of tea coffee -
lively discussions, frustrations, tears.

I saw myself in you, in how you
interacted with the others -
you've grown since then, become someone of your own.

One day I'll finish your story,
and everyone will know who you are.

All our dreams can come true — if we have the courage to pursue them.

April 18 - a sparkle in the sky

I remember that day;
a sparkle appeared in the sky so blackened
with fog. And I watched it, holding my breath,
biting my lip with a newfound hope
that seemed lost inside of me. They held my arms
and bought me things to keep a smile
plastered on my face --
and I wait, my hanging on to an air hope
instilled in me just then.

I realized how the world was full of little things
beautiful, miraculous.
And I told myself, that even if I cant see it;
the foggy sky will sparkle some day soon.

All our dreams can come true — if we have the courage to pursue them.

April 19 - the road

I was confronted with a road
an icy road, jagged, laced with thorns-
it was on a cliff side
and one slip would send you tumbling.
It crossed mountain tops and went
to dark corners of the earth.
Standing there,
I asked myself if it was worth it
to meet my dreams at the end of the road.

All our dreams can come true — if we have the courage to pursue them.

some good stuff going on, but one suggestion I have is to avoid the words like 'beautiful,' and 'beauty'. I've noticed you use them a lot. It's easy to describe something as beautiful, but as a reader, I'd like to see you try and justify it. Show us that something is beautiful without telling us it is beautiful. I guess you can consider that a challenge from me, for you to think about as you write more poems for April.

best,

April 20 - drafted

It was a Tuesday when you told me --
called me, asked me to make coffee.
My kids were off at school, and I hadn't seen
you in a while. You were to go off, fight.
It wasn't your choice, since you had been drafted.
I didn't know what to say, since we were both grown-ups
with our own spouses and homes.
I loved you -- still do. How did I express it then?
I wished you luck - you hadn't told mom yet.
The day would come to say goodbye soon --
and I wished I could only do more.

All our dreams can come true — if we have the courage to pursue them.

April 21 - the figure skater

effortlessly, gracefully -
she floats across the ice while the spotlight trails
behind her - she is alone on her massive stage;
it is her time to shine.
if she bid's the judges favor, they'll give her gold
as they play 'the star spangled banner'.

She's told me this dream of hers
many times before.
I watch her on the ice, and
she becomes a princess, an angel, a swan.

It's odd to see you in your clothes,
studying for your exams
when I know the ice is really where you're at home.

All our dreams can come true — if we have the courage to pursue them.

April 22 - Water

I see it in my sleep, I see it in the day;
my throat, cracked, longs for it --
but there's none, it's only in my mind.
The time goes by, slowly, more slowly,
and I begin to loose my mind.
Give me some water, let appear
as a miracle, otherwise I'll perish soon.

All our dreams can come true — if we have the courage to pursue them.

April 23 - untitled
(Okay, so technically these are lyrics, and I did get a lot of help from Razcoon with this one!)

When I was very young they told me
that I had to climb this mountain.
It would be easy, it was a smooth walk to the top.
But they didn't know I had my own dreams
I was to climb that mountain over there.
It was steeper, and higher and
there was danger at every corner
But did I care?
No, no.

There was a force pushing me up,
up on the mountain they told me to climb.
I tried to resist it but found I could not.

And I went up the mountaintop.
My dreams faded far ‘till they disappeared
I don't want to climb this mountain
I don't want to lose my dreams
But there's a force pushing me up,
one I can't control.

I don't want to be secure
if it means giving up my values, my dreams.
I want so much to be
more then they want for me.
I can fight danger at every corner,
show them who I really am.

But there's a force pushing me up
One I can't control,
So I go farther from my dreams.

I'm almost to the top --
I see the mountain
that was my dream to climb.
It's too late to turn back now.
Why did I listen to them
instead of following my dreams?

Is it too late to go back now?

And I went up the mountaintop
My dreams faded far 'till they disappeared
I don't want to climb this mountain
I don't want to lose my dreams
But there's a force pushing me up,
one I can't control.

I'm finally to the mountaintop
It's just as I imagined
Lifeless, dull, and full of pain
My dreams have faded away;
I can't see them anymore.

Is it too late to go back now?

All our dreams can come true — if we have the courage to pursue them.

April 24 - Him

his arms, up on a cross -
ragged cloths around his torn flesh
thorns scratching into his skull,
he mutters a prayer to his father.
he knew pain would be a price,
but he didn't know it would be like this.
he gingerly lays across
the cross like a rag doll.
his sweat makes him a pond
in the sweltering desert sun.
When he gets his wish,
they mourn.

if only they could tell him not to worry,
because he'll back in three days,
and all will be joyous again.

All our dreams can come true — if we have the courage to pursue them.

April 25 - the swan

she sings, sweetly
outstretches her silken wings for
all to see. Against the steady current
of a lake she glides like a feather
showing her beauty, her poise and grace.

those who admire her, aspire to be her,
they do not know her tears, her anguish,
her strife.

she is a swan;
misunderstood.

All our dreams can come true — if we have the courage to pursue them.

April 26 - spring

The ice has melted and now the world is green,
etched with pastel. She comes up, nearly blinded by the light
and a porcelain smile is plastered on her face
when she sees not a trace of red or black.
She wants to keep it like this forever, never return to that
awful place.

But she was tempted, deceived and now she must.
Taking a seat on her moss-covered throne,
the animals come to greet her, bring her flowers
and showing her how much they missed her.

It’s beautiful, this moment –
She’s appreciative just to have it
At all.

All our dreams can come true — if we have the courage to pursue them.

April 27 - lost, scared and alone

(okay, so I said I would only write one haiku, but I am feeling no inspiration, so I am just doing three and connecting them)

these stairs are endless
there is not a soul in sight
I feel so alone.

this is like a dream,
like a horrendous nightmare
and I will not wake.

can't I be safe once more?
who knew that I'd end like this,
lost, scared and alone?

All our dreams can come true — if we have the courage to pursue them.

-- Walt Disney

You have to be a bit of a liar to tell a story the right way.
