CICADA, for readers ages 14 and up, publishes original fiction, poetry, and first-person nonfiction by both adult and teen writers. Please keep in mind that CICADA's readers are intelligent and sophisticated and can handle complexity with respect to theme, characterization, and plotting. The editors want to provide a balance of serious and humorous writing within each issue.
FICTION: Realistic, contemporary, historical, humor, mysteries, fantasy, science fiction
POETRY: Serious, humorous, rhyming or free verse

Cicada accepts submissions from 14-23 year olds with stories up to 5,000 words, poetry up to 25 lines, and short snippets called "Expressions" from 350 to 1,500 words. They actually pay! Here is their website, and here is their Duotrope's Digest listing with some acceptance statistics.

"The day, which was one of the first of spring, cheered even me by the loveliness of its sunshine and the balminess of the air. I felt emotions of gentleness and pleasure, that had long appeared dead, revive within me. Half surprised by the novelty of these sensations, I allowed myself to be borne away by them, and forgetting my solitude and deformity, dared to be happy."
— Mary Shelley, Frankenstein
