I don't particularly think we've "replaced" or "lost" anything. We've just lost interest in the things that matter. Our society has paid such little heed to the importance of the reality of life that we've grown immature and blind to the things worth worrying about. Just look at our generation of kids and teens, worrying more about appearance and acceptance than about education and future plans. I don't really understand how this is considered a paradox, since there is indeed defined logic, but I do agree with the message coming across. We need to focus on other things than popularity and all of the other pointless junk we as humans have grown obsessed with.
