Right? It was BIG too -- it was almost as tall as me and squared up and started hissing and my life flashed before my eyes lol

see the funny thing lol when i was getting set up my boss/prof was helping me get the traps set and such, teaching me how to do it. And he was like "yeah a few months ago I had a swan try to attack me and thankfully it didn't, but i could just imagine the internet video: 'herpetologist runs for life from swan' no thank you I don't need that kind of negative press'
and I laughed.
And then it happened to me and i was like oh nooooooo is the video gonna be of me??

So what happened was i caught this teensy tiny turtle -- legit maybe 1/3 the size of my palm. Was very cute. I photographed and was letting it go in the water and then this swan comes swimming up very fast with its beak in the water
So I scoop up the turtle and step back and it rushes on the shore and starts hissing at me. And I don't know what to do so I take a step to the side, trying to get away, and it takes a step towards me and hisses again. And I put the turtle behind my back so it couldn't see it anymore and very carefully started backing away and it got bored maybe a minute into it and left. But my blood pressure was legitimately raised haha

but there was no glass between me and my death this time
