This book (although slightly slow to start off with) has really vivid imagery, and if you take the time off to really zone into it, you can almost see, smell and taste the things the characters do. However, a lot of it was to do with war and battle strategies, so I didn't understand some of it. *laughs*

However, even though I didn't finish it due to psychological problems of my own fault (ooh, flashy disclaimer) I'd recommend it to everyone who loves a bit of a fantastical adventure. It's full of creatures you really have to dig into the crevasses of your imagination to picture, interesting traditions and the unfortunately sobering feeling (at least on my part) that humanity used to be a wonderful thing before the Industrial Revolution.

Oskan is my favourite character, because he's gentlemanly, and also quite naive at times. Then again, it might just be because we're seeing most of his behaviour through the eyes of the (lovestruck) princess... ^_^
