These are awesome books about magic and magical creatures. Their focus is Skandranon, a proud and vain gryphon the last book is based more on one of his children but they are all pretty good.
The Last Herald-Mage series is very cool, it is just by ML.

This series is my favorite of her works.
It is about a boy (Vanyel) who is Shay'a'chern and when his lover dies his power is forced into Vanyel, he is then the most powerful herald. It is a very good series because it gives human emotion that you can feel deep in your heart.
