I'd recommend any of Danielle Steel's books. They are absolutely heartbreaking. Also, the Drake Sisters series, though I can't remember the author right now.
There once was a cat.
He wasn’t particularly fat.
Fuzzy was his favorite mat.
And really, that was that.

Oh, but did you really think so?
Keep reading, it’s just the start of the show!
And as for how far this tale will go…
Well, even the cat doesn’t know.

You are talking about Christian Feehan.
"I love you," she whispered in his ear, before taking his mouth with her own.

Sundays at Tiffany's is great book. It's long but definitely worth reading. It's a romance but it's a little different.

The Private Novels by Kate Brian. Oh my god they have everything, romance, murder, mystery. They rock, (better then Twilight. Oh my god don't shoot me.) Which don't get me wrong the Twilight Saga rocks too.

Oh, I know a ton of great books. Here are some to start off with. They all have a bit of romance, but they're not totally about romance. They're also extremely well written, interesting and funny. Enjoy!

The Gemma Doyle series by Libba Bray (first one is A Great and Terrible Beauty)
The Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer (probably already reccomended)
The Mortal Instruments Trilogy by Cassandra Clare (first one is City of Bones. Third is not out yet)
Airhead by Meg Cabot (2nd in the series comes out in the spring)
The Mediator series by Meg Cabot (first would be Shadowland)
The Princess Bride by William Goldman
Dairy Queen + The Off Season by Catherine Gilbert Murdock (It's a series, Dairy Queen is first)

That's all for now. PM me if you need more suggestions.

Don't look in the spoiler.

Spoiler! :

This Lulllaby by Sarah Dessen.
It could be classified as a romace. It had a love interest or two. And it is one of my favorites.
If that counts for anything at all.
