Welcome to Squills, the YWS news bulletin.

This thread is the equivalent of a YWS newspaper, with each post in this thread being a news article. The focus of this paper is on the happenings of YWS at any given day, but members are welcome to submit their own news items. Keep in mind that all postings must comply with the YWS rules.

Submissions will be taken over the span of the day. Tomorrow, this thread will be locked and a new one will take its place. This feature runs all week long, featuring special coverage during events and certain occasions.

If you have questions, news tips, letters to the editor, or if you would like to join the Squills Team, then please PM Griffinkeeper.

Column:
A Good YWS Reviewer

The main aim of the young Writers Society is to improve each and every member's talent in writing. What way could we develop this? Through reviews. Sad to say, a single Review Day every month or joining weekly review races aren't enough to label that you, my good user, are the best reviewer in the site. Your advice may have been useful, yes, and you have helped a member with your review, good. But have you helped enough?

Helping those few members you stumble upon during Review Days or any other activities is a very good contribution to the group advocacy, but how about those who post during regular days? How about the writers who post their well-made novels only a few review due to their length?

A good YWS reviewer is not one who seeks the shortest pieces to review. A good YWS reviewer is not one who hides in a hole for the rest of the days until a contest, activity or holiday comes in. A good YWS reviewer opens up him or herself to an author's piece, and there he pulls out his best to support, develop and grow its foundations. A good YWS reviewer understands, not sees.

YWS wants your reviews. The users--no, the authors--want your reviews. What are you waiting for? Try to lend a hand now.

Fiction for Thought
Stories and plays, prose are undeniably great reads. How about reading this week's literary spotlight?

Why? Why? Why? This is a question we ask all the time. This why, though, is not the cliche we expect. This week's fiction spotlight is on HannahBanana's short story, Why?

What many might like best about her work is the flexibility of the first few paragraphs. The way HannahB. wound through the story was so innocent yet pragmatic that one might found themselves in between two roads, one goes to a less traveled one, then another goes to the opposite. I think that this is another positive factor the piece possesses, it will judge your own notions.

Excited? Well why not pay a visit and read Why? by HannahBanana! :D

Remember when dad's shoulders were the highest place on earth and your mom was your hero? Race issues were about who ran the fastest, war was only a car game. The most pain you felt was when you skinned your knees, and good byes only meant tomorrow? And we couldn't wait to grow up.
