I submitted this piece on another account, but I lost my password and couldn't retrieve it. So it's the same piece edited quite a bit. I hope it has improved.

Chapter 1
Sky tried speaking to Sophie this morning it was the first time either of them had attempted to in many months. They were best friends last year now look at them. They had, had an argument over who was whose best friend. Jealousy if you ask me. Luckily, I managed to stay best friends with both of them, but even though this argument was many months ago, and they both claim to accept that I am friends with the other as well, they both have a go at me when I speak to the other, or sit next to the other in class. To be honest I don’t know if this is normal anymore. They are so alike, you can tell without even knowing them that they are born friends, but they don’t seem to realise it yet. Well they do say opposites attract, and clearly they are not opposites.
Up until yesterday I had spent all my school time with Sophie, and most of my social life with sky. Sky and I thought it would be better this way. You see, you have to understand; Sophie’s different...not physically, but mentally. Deep down I know she’s a nice person, but she comes across as very boisterous and bigheaded, and if you get on the wrong side of her...well I certainly know how it feels...we’ll get to that a little later. Anyway, yesterday, I was coming out of my maths class when I bumped into Sky, and it was really good timing as well because I needed to discuss birthday plans. Unfortunately, Sophie didn’t take to it too well, it’s not as if we were talking about her, in fact I don’t think she heard what we were saying, but just the idea of me talking to Sky was bad enough to her. Sky knew what this meant, and reassured me that Sophie would get over it, I really wanted to believe Sky, but as far as I was aware, this was all that went on between Sky and Sophie last summer, and this was where they were now. Yes, Sophie does over react, but this has far gone past over reacting, there’s got to be more to it than just a simple fall out, and I’m determined to sort this out before my birthday because I desperately want them both their, and I know that Sophie won’t go if Sky is there.
At break I started to think about why Sophie hated Sky so much, yet Sky didn’t seem to think the same way, and if she did, she hid it very well. In fact, Sky didn’t seem to mind being around Sophie at all. But the end of break came quickly – to quickly for me to quiz Sky about it. Sophie was now blanking me so I decided to sit with Sky in maths, I’d already forgotten about break and what I wanted to speak to her about merely because maths had never been one of my strongest subjects so I really had to make an effort this week as usually I could copy the answers off Sophie because she’s a maths geek. Luckily the maths lesson wasn’t that hard, and it seemed to go by pretty quickly. At lunch I felt so let down by Sophie that despite all my common sense telling me it was a bad idea, I walked up to her and yelled at her “Why do you have to ignore me? Am I not allowed to have my own friends? What has Sky done that makes you hate her so fucking much?” I think Sophie was slightly shocked with my exclamation, as she didn’t respond straight away, but after a moment’s hesitation she spoke calmly “Molly, you wouldn’t understand, there are things you don’t know, can’t know, shouldn’t know, she did some things I can never forgive, and I know this ain’t your problem and I know it’s mine but I don’t want to see you get hurt like I did.” I wanted to reply “what do you mean?” but I didn’t have the mental capacity to, and anyway, she had already started to walk off. I didn’t know what to think, but if she was lying, well let us say it won’t be the first time
After school, when I got home, did my homework whilst explain to my mum about my day as I usually did. I asked her what I should do about my birthday because I didn’t want to let anyone down, especially with what Sophie said to me today. I feel really stupid now, but what Mum said was right; invite who I wanted to, and if Sophie didn’t want to go because Sky is there then maybe she wasn’t a true friend. It sounds really selfish but it is my party, so she could at least try for me! Yet I wasn’t convinced, what I planned to do, just seemed like a way to wind Sophie up, and that was the last thing I wanted. But just before I went to sleep that night, I had an idea, it would make Sophie, Sky and I happy, but Mum would never agree to it. I guess it’s worth a try.

hey Gillian, the first thing I noticed was the formatting. You should try breaking up the wall of text a bit, you know?

Sky tried speaking to Sophie this morning it was the first time either of them had attempted to in many months.

This, as a first line, is quite long and unweildly. Try splitting it up.

Sky tried speaking to Sophie this morning, it was the first time either of them had attempted in many months.

See what a difference a comma makes?

They were best friends last year now look at them. They had, had an argument over who was whose best friend. Jealousy if you ask me.

The 'now look at them' seems a little...tacked on. So, if you take it out...

They had been best friends last year, but they had had an argument. It had been over who was who's best friend, jealousy, if you ask me.

You see how I've reformatted the sentences a little? What I do is I read it out loud, and where I pause I put a comma. Where I stop, I put a fullstop. It means that the sentences read nicely, like someone was reading them out loud to us.

Luckily, I managed to stay best friends with both of them, but even though this argument was many months ago, and they both claim to accept that I am friends with the other as well, they both have a go at me when I speak to the other, or sit next to the other in class.

Woah. Loong sentence. You need to find a way to reformat that- I won't show you how I would do it this time, as this is your story, and it's your decision! But I would suggest doing what I said above, and read it out loud. It's a simple way to do things, but it seems to work for me.

Sophie’s different...not physically, but mentally. Deep down I know she’s a nice person, but she comes across as very boisterous and bigheaded, and if you get on the wrong side of her...well I certainly know how it feels...we’ll get to that a little later.

You seem to be insinuating that because she is an angry person she's got some kind of disorder? That's kind of odd.

because I desperately want them both their,

You mean there.

One thing that I've noticed as I re-go through your story, is that the tense changes. You should go through and make everything past tense- I stood, I wanted, I thought; or present tense- I stand, I want, I think.

Another really long sentence. You should watch these.
I wanted to reply “what do you mean?” but I didn’t have the mental capacity to, and anyway, she had already started to walk off.

I don't think you mean 'mental capacity', becaue you are insinuating your narrator is too stupid to say 'what do you mean?', which she obviously isn't.

Overall, your main problem is your formatting and structure. The content or the story didn't put me off, the way your sentences went on and on did, and the lack of paragraphs. What you should do is go through and break it into more reader-friendly chunks. A paragraph should only contain one idea. As soon as your narrator moves off that idea into another, you should have a new paragraph. This coupled with shorter, more easy-to-follow sentences and you will have something.

PM me if you have any questions.

Hey there,

Things I can see straight away:

1) You need to format your story to suit the YWS website. There needs to be extra enter spaces between paragraphs to make it easier on the reviewers to read.

2) Just skimming I can see LOTS of repetition. Which I will take the liberty of highlighting in green for you.

Okay, first, does this paragraph even need to be written? You could cut this into one or two sentences, "Sky and Sophie didn't always get along. They tended to use me as the rope in tug-of-war, each claiming that I was their best friend."

Again, you tend to enjoy rambling. And the ellipses are not beneficial here at all. Don't ever say, "but I'll talk about that later" - do you need to tell the reader that? That's being redundant. If you don't want to bring up Sophie's loud nature up, then don't write about it until you're ready to.

This seems like a diary entry - a dry and boring one at that. I know the rule is "write what you know", but that doesn't mean "write what's happening between your friends right now". You have a good grasp on grammar, but you tend to write in a report format which is too dry and un-entertaining and uninteresting for casual readers.

I think that you need to either expand your sentences to be more descriptive, or delete repetative sentences - this whole paragraph can be summed up by, "I wasn't good at math so I copied off Sophie, but Sky wanted me to sit with her." Even then that sentence subject is UBER boring.

At lunch I felt so let down by Sophie that despite all my common sense telling me it was a bad idea, I walked up to her and yelled at her, “Why do you have to ignore me? Am I not allowed to have my own friends? What has Sky done that makes you hate her so fucking much?”
Enter when a new person is speaking.
I think Sophie was slightly shocked with my exclamation, as she didn’t respond straight away, but after a moment’s hesitation she spoke calmly, “Molly, you wouldn’t understand, there are things you don’t know, can’t know, shouldn’t know, she did some things I can never forgive, and I know this ain’t your problem and I know it’s mine but I don’t want to see you get hurt like I did was.”
Generally you place an enter at every new idea/theme.
I wanted to reply “What do you mean?” but I didn’t have the mental capacity to, and anyway, she had already started to walk off. I didn’t know what to think, but if she was lying, well let us say it won’t be the first time.

Once again, I think this is a rewrite of something that happened at school between your friends. Try a bit of creative fantasy writing. Readers don't want to read about things that they can experience themselves every day.

So.

Characters

Main character: boring. We know nothing about her, all we know about are her friends. If the story revolves around them fighting, the story would be much more interesting told from one of their points of view.

Sophie and Sky: stereotypical teenage girls who are having a cat fight. Not the most inspiring theme for a story.

Setting
At school. Surroundings never described. Classes mentioned in brief. This is an awful rendition of high school life. Even Stephanie Meyers had more descriptive imagination when writing about her main character moping about in her bedroom after school.

Style
If you're aiming for scientific report, then you've absolutely almost hit the mark. But if you weren't aiming for that, then I would suggest reading some published work and copying out, word for word, about two pages of descriptive writing. Then change the location (if the scene is set in the city, write about the jungle etc) and write a new piece of writing with an almost exact word count. Structured exactly the same. You'll learn about paragraph placement, what people actually say in dialogue and why your current style is not very easy to read.

Keep writing, but read this aloud to yourself. If you fall asleep or start to get sick of reading "Sky" and "Sophie" after every fifth word, you'll know how us reviewers think.

So, I did some quick digging, and I can confidently say that your use of grammar has definitely improved from the original:

Spoiler
Sky said hello to Sophie this morning it was the first time they had spoken in ages. They were best friends last year now look at them. They had, had a fight about who was whose best friend so I was told. I managed to stay best friends with both of them I can’t speak to one without the other one saying something. “Molly”, they had both said “why do you talk to her have you seen what she has done to me?” I would laugh they would tell me off. It’s not my fault they say exactly the same things as each other! They are born friends but they just don’t realize it.

It all happened yesterday when I was talking very nicely to Sky when Sophie comes along (she’s nice but a bit bold and big headed) and groans at me and Sky and walks off in a strop. It was the first time she had seen me with Sky since the argument. She wasn’t happy. But Sky was kind and said that she will get over soon and we will all be friends again. I sure hope Sky is right. I am really unhappy at the moment. It’s my birthday in two weeks I don’t know who to invite to my party. If I invite Sky and Sophie then Sophie will defiantly not go. If only what I am thinking will come true.

At break I started to think why Sophie hates Sky so much they have been best friends for a whole year. Sophie is now totally ignoring Sky and me so I sat next to Sky in maths. “What’s got into her?” Sky was saying to me. I was so deep in thought I wasn’t listening. Sky hadn’t been ignoring Sophie but just hadn’t been talking to her. I asked Sky if she could excuse me for a moment. I went up to Sophie who was talking to Charlotte and said “you know Sky is really worried about you.” She ignored that and said that I should get a life and stop hanging with Sky and that Sky could never be a good friend after what she had done. I was puzzled I asked Sophie “What had she done?” but all Sophie said was “its best that you don’t know but I warn you Molly that girl means trouble”. After that I was even more troubled I had to get to the bottom of this before it was too late. I thought to myself you know what Sophie’s like.

So after school, when Mum got home I told her all about my day as I normally do. I asked what I should do about my birthday. Mum told me to invite everyone I want to invite and if Sophie doesn’t want to go then maybe she’s not a true friend. I thought for a moment about Mum’s suggestion. It was Okay but I knew for certain that Sophie wouldn’t go. But just before I went ahead and agreed with Mum’s idea, I thought of my own one. I knew Mum would say no but it was worth a try.

So the next day at school I gave people their invitations. I was so pleased that Mum had agreed to my idea. But when Sophie entered the room she was in a grumpy mood but I still gave her, her invite. She took one look at me then Sky and threw it in the bin. I knew that would happen. So I confronted Sophie “Why did you chuck the invitation into the bin after all I am having two separate parties because of you.” Sophie stared at me for one minute before retrieving it. She smiled at me and walked off. It’s hard to tell what Sophie’s thinking when she’s like that. But she smiled at me and to me that was a start.

At break time Sophie came up to Sky and me and asked to speak to me in private. I was surprised and asked Sky if she minded she said that she didn’t. But I could tell by her face she really did. I was starting to feel a bit nervous because I hadn’t spoken to Sophie since this morning with the incident of the invitation. But I was relieved when Sophie told me that she didn’t want to discuss it now. But I was even more surprised when she invited me to her house tomorrow. I said that I couldn’t possibly go, but knowing what Sophie’s like she wouldn’t take no for an answer.

When I got home I started worrying about going to Sophie’s tomorrow, because I had made other plans, other plans that seemed more important to me now. Mum wasn’t sure that I should go tomorrow but I insisted but later regretted it. Later that night Sophie rung. She broke the news to me the news that would change my mind. By the end of the night I wanted to go to Sophie’s more than ever.

At school the next day I told Sky that I couldn’t go on the best friend’s tour with her because my mother had other plans. But for a change Sky was upset. She asked me if we were best friends. I replied “of course”. I didn’t dare tell her about seeing Sophie because she might muck it up and I might never know.

That afternoon I walked home with Sophie. She asked me what I was meant to be doing that night. She obviously heard me speaking to Sky. I didn’t reply and just kept walking on. She asked me again but mentioning Sky’s name. I knew she would find out one way or another so I told her about the best friends tour and how we were going to meet Take That and Rhianna. She was surprised and said that she was sorry that I couldn’t go but next time it was on I should take her instead. I told her that there would be no next time and after that we both walked on in silence. Then we arrived at her house. It was a small pretty cottage just on the outskirts of town. When we entered she took me to her bedroom and told me to wait there. I started to think about how pretty Sophie was it was so not fair. Although I preferred her with long hair she looked just as good with short hair.

She started to tell me about the evening of her birthday last year when Sky and I went to her house for a sleepover. She started telling me about the stuff that she and Sky did without me. I started to feel a little uneasy. She told me that she and Sky had played a game of hairdressers, and that Sky was the hairdresser. I was feeling upset now because she never let me do her hair. But I soon realised why.

She continued about her day telling me that later she went to Sky’s house. They had lots of fun. She said she couldn’t remember much more after that apart from telling Sky that she wanted to know what she looked like with short hair. Then what she said next made me really surprised. She told me that Sky disappeared a minute and the next thing she new was that her hair was short and a complete disgrace. She told me that’s why she never trusted people with her hair. I didn’t blame her but still it is so unlike Sky to do that I told Sophie. But Sophie said to me “ you don’t believe me do you anyway I knew you wouldn’t your just as stuck up as she is” and one minute later before I realised I was stranded outside on the street. I started to think could Sky had really done that if so why there must have been a reason she wouldn’t do it just like that. Anyway Sophie told me that it was a lat e Birthday present from her mum.

When I got home that evening I told mum everything. I was worried. I needed to speak to Sky urgently before school tomorrow. So I rang Sky that evening and questioned her about that day on march 5th last year. She had a slight worry in her voice, but spoke very passionately. I knew then instantly I had done something wrong. I realised that if I hadn’t have been with Sophie I would have been with Sky. I started to worry as Sky for the first time in my life shouted at me “it’s none of your business” and slamed down the phone.

After the phone call I couldn’t stop crying. What had I done? Sky will never speak to me again. I decided that I had gone so far so I needed to find out what changed Sky.

The next day at school I hung round with Sophie, and Sky hung round with Sarah. They both seemed happy. It seemed like it was only me that was upset. Then I remembered that Sky was meant to be coming round my house I was seriously dreading it.

At lunch Sky came up to me and Sophie and sat down on our table. I was pleased hoping everything would be alright. She started asking me what we should do when she comes round to my house. I shrugged. I knew it she was only sitting their to get at Sophie. She was hoping that Sophie would go off me. But Sophie butted in saying that she was going round my house today. I nodded in agreement and said that she was and that we were going to make clothes and play on the Sims. After I had said that Sky went of in a strop. Sophie told me that she could guess that Sky was going to do that. I thought that was odd because before Sophie used to get Sky’s emotions wrong all the time. I knew something was going on and I had to find out why.

That night I walked home with Sophie we were discussing our favourite soap. She liked corrie I liked Eastenders. Then when she got to my house we did exactly as I said we would do to Sky. When we had finished we were talking about boys. We both thought all the boys in our class were disgusting. After we had finished all that Sophie said that she had to go home. So she left me on my own.

About 5 minutes after she had left I heard a phone ring. I knew for a fact that the phone wasn’t mine because the ring tone was different. Then I realised that it was Sophie’s phone. I thought for a moment whether I should go round to her house and give it back to her. But I decided not to because after all I had primary evidence in my hand. I looked around to make sure there was no one around, which was a bit silly really because no one apart from me was home. So I carefully flicked up my phone and looked at her text message. It was from Sky. It read

Kep plyin ze gam cause we nearly won.

Molly such a baby gt rid ov hr quik.

Frm Sky xxxxxxxxxxxx

After reading that message 3 times I was horrified. So horrified that I didn’t think twice and texted her back. I wrote

It is Molly

I am not a baby why are you doing

this to me?

You’re horrible

After sending the message I was horrified with what I wrote. I shouldn’t have let her know I have Sophie’s phone. I can’t believe Sky did that to me. What’s got into her lately.

That night I cried a lot. I didn’t know what to do Mum said that it would sort itself out tomorrow. I wanted to believe her but I couldn’t.

It does make me wonder why you didn't format this newer version when you knew to format your older one.

Lilicia wrote:This is a good start but I suggest you read over it. For now, it's very hard to read - the sentences are long and missing commas. This makes it quite difficult to stick to the general idea of the story, and once I'd read a few paragraphs my mind started to drift a bit... To catch your reader, try to make more suspense, more emotion.

This comment is still valid.

BondGirl007 wrote:Well, to start off I had a hard time reading this; the plot was not well defined, the characters were flat, and I didn't really like the main character.I also didn't feel like the way molly talked was very realistic.

You do (as pointed out before me) need to use commas in many places in your story. Without commas, it makes it hard to read, and if it's hard to read- the person reading it will just get fed up. No matter how good the plot is, if it's hard to read, it's going to make people not want to read it. Try reading it outloud, it helps to find small things that you miss while just reading it to yourself. Like if the speech of one of your characters sounds a little off, or if you made a small mistake that was overlooked.

Over all I would say try to add to the plot a little more, because it has potential to be a great story, with only a little tweaking. This (In my opinion) is the kind of story that is better, longer, as opposed to trying to fit all the information into only a few pages. And if you make it longer, you can go more in depth into the characters. Like What is Molly's situation? How old is she? Does she live with only her mom? If so, what happened to her dad?

Oh, I was also confused about how long ago the fight between Sky, and Sophie had been.

And Bond also made some very valid comments.

Hi there :) This is my first review, so I hope I give you some helpful stuff to work with!

First off, try not to start a story with a really long sentence - you want something short and sweet, to pick up the reader's attention. Also there are a few grammar mistakes in here and I'll do my best to fix them up.

"
Sky tried speaking to Sophie this morning it was the first time either of them had attempted to in many months. They were best friends last year now look at them.

Maybe try adding a full stop at the end of 'morning'. Although, you go on to mention that Sophie wants nothing to do with Sky, so saying that both of them have attempted to talk shouldn't be there.

"They were best friends last year now look at them."

There's something wrong with this sentence - it just doesn't feel write, the way you've said it.

"They had, had an argument over who was whose best friend. Jealousy if you ask me."

You don't need a comma after had. When you have the comma, it breaks up the sentence. Read it again, with a 2 second pause after the comma. Doesn't fit, right?

When you have no comma, it makes more sense.

Also confusing moment;
"They were best friends last year now look at them. They had, had an argument over who was whose best friend."

I know you go on to say that you remained friends with them, but at this point in the story the reader doesn't know that you're involved in the friendships of Sophie and Sky. For all the reader knows, you could be the Janitor who overhears their conversations; Sky's mother who knows the situation, etc.

So at this point, it's confusing that two people should have an argument over who is best friends with who. Do you see what I mean?

"Luckily, I managed to stay best friends with both of them, but even though this argument was many months ago, and they both claim to accept that I am friends with the other as well, they both have a go at me when I speak to the other, or sit next to the other in class."

Way too long a sentence. You could condense it a little more - maybe even over-dramatise it. When you're a teen, a fight with your best friend is about as traumatic as WWII.

for example: I somehow escaped the aftermath of Sophie and Sky's falling out unscathed, managing to stay friends with both of them.

"To be honest I don’t know if this is normal anymore."

Not really needed.

"They are so alike, you can tell without even knowing them that they are born friends, but they don’t seem to realise it yet."

This story is written in first person right? Why does it feel like the first person has no personality?

"Well they do say opposites attract, and clearly they are not opposites."

This sentence doesn't fit at all - you're contradicting what you just said. If they're not opposites ( you had said they were alike) then they should do the opposite of attract, which is repel. If that is the case, it should be a no brainer that the two will never be friends.

"Up until yesterday I had spent all my school time with Sophie, and most of my social life with sky. Sky and I thought it would be better this way."

I don't think you should have said that Sky and I though it would be better this way. Maybe *you* thought it would be easier this way. You sound like a sheep, who just does what she's told.

"You see, you have to understand; Sophie’s different...not physically, but mentally. Deep down I know she’s a nice person, but she comes across as very boisterous and bigheaded, and if you get on the wrong side of her...well I certainly know how it feels...we’ll get to that a little later."

Boisterous doesn't seem to fit - proud, stubborn, maybe? A nice metaphor or simile could work here. When Sophie was mad, she was a fridge - and you were the poor carrot that had slipped out of the plastic bag, left to wither in the corner, the chill gathering in your heart from her icy stare.

"Anyway, yesterday, I was coming out of my maths class when I bumped into Sky, and it was really good timing as well because I needed to discuss birthday plans."

Don't use anyway to start a sentence - unless it's a journal entry or similar.

"Unfortunately, Sophie didn’t take to it too well, it’s not as if we were talking about her, in fact I don’t think she heard what we were saying, but just the idea of me talking to Sky was bad enough to her."

This sentence is too long for what you're trying to say. Think of a couple ways to shrink it down.

"Sky knew what this meant, and reassured me that Sophie would get over it, I really wanted to believe Sky, but as far as I was aware, this was all that went on between Sky and Sophie last summer, and this was where they were now."

Too many commas. First one could be replaced with a semi colon. Full stop at the end of over it.

"but as far as I was aware, this was all that went on between Sky and Sophie last summer, and this was where they were now."

Once again, condense. Add some personality.

Also - this whole story seems like a relaying of words, as if you were just telling a friend what happened. How did she reassure you? A pat on the back? A coy smile? A massive bear hug? Expanding on these things give the reader a feel for the character's personality.

"Yes, Sophie does over react, but this has far gone past over reacting, there’s got to be more to it than just a simple fall out, and I’m determined to sort this out before my birthday because I desperately want them both their, and I know that Sophie won’t go if Sky is there."

There*
Condense, add some personality.

"At break I started to think about why Sophie hated Sky so much, yet Sky didn’t seem to think the same way, and if she did, she hid it very well. In fact, Sky didn’t seem to mind being around Sophie at all. But the end of break came quickly – to quickly for me to quiz Sky about it."

I would say: At break I barely touched my food. Sky chatted casually about birthday things, like cake floavours and baloon colours choices. Should we get a jumping castle or not? Should we have a girls only pajama party, or have a really cool scavenger hunt? I was too spaced out to give a coherent reply. I knew Sophie did nothing to hide her obvious dislike or Sky, but if the feeling was mutual, Sky was pretty damn good at hiding it. Questions kept forming in my mind, but I was hestitant to pester Sky about it. The bell shrieked the end of break, and the questions subsided as Sky bounced away towards her next class.

See how my example has said the same things as yours, but in a way that the reader stays interested?

"Sophie was now blanking me so I decided to sit with Sky in maths, I’d already forgotten about break and what I wanted to speak to her about merely because maths had never been one of my strongest subjects so I really had to make an effort this week as usually I could copy the answers off Sophie because she’s a maths geek. Luckily the maths lesson wasn’t that hard, and it seemed to go by pretty quickly."

Condense. You could at least make this one or two sentences.

At lunch I felt so let down by Sophie that despite all my common sense telling me it was a bad idea, I walked up to her and yelled at her -"

Where did you walk up to her? As she was getting her bag from the port racks outside? As she was picking up a pen that had fallen off her desk? As she was talking to the guy she really has a thing for?

“Why do you have to ignore me? Am I not allowed to have my own friends? What has Sky done that makes you hate her so fucking much?”

Random swear word, okay.

"I think Sophie was slightly shocked with my exclamation, as she didn’t respond straight away, but after a moment’s hesitation she spoke calmly"

What did you feel immediately after you yelled at her? the pang of guilt, the sweet release of finally standing up to her? What did Sophie do? expand more than "I think she was shocked, or she didn't respond straight away. Did she shake her head in anger. Cross her arms tightly against her chest?

“Molly, you wouldn’t understand, there are things you don’t know, can’t know, shouldn’t know, she did some things I can never forgive, and I know this ain’t your problem and I know it’s mine but I don’t want to see you get hurt like I did.”

Too many commas. Ain't doesn't fit properly. Hurt like I did? Hurt like I was, maybe? How did she say it? Angrily, camly, loudly, firmly, tears brimming at her eyes?

"I wanted to reply “what do you mean?” but I didn’t have the mental capacity to, and anyway, she had already started to walk off."

Didn't have the mental capacity to? Does not work, at all. Maybe: With that, she turned on her heel and began to storm away from me, and I was left blubbering like a fish out of water. I was still pumping from my outburst, and had momentarily lost the ability to speak.
"I didn’t know what to think, but if she was lying, well let us say it won’t be the first time"

Rephrase. Example: I didn't know what to think. Had Sky done something so atrocious, so terrible, that it really made Sophie never want to speak to her again? I generally took Sophie's outlandish remarks with a grain of salt, but this time she had me stumped.

"After school, when I got home, did my homework whilst explain to my mum about my day as I usually did."

What is your mum doing? knitting, cooking dinner, stroking your ginger tabby that you've had since a toddler, is she on her fourth gin and tonic?
"I asked her what I should do about my birthday because I didn’t want to let anyone down, especially with what Sophie said to me today. I feel really stupid now, but what Mum said was right; invite who I wanted to, and if Sophie didn’t want to go because Sky is there then maybe she wasn’t a true friend."

What I'd write: After three repeated attempts to finish my algebra homework, I asked mum for her opinion on my situation. Mum listened intently throughout my vivid retelling of earlier dilemma with Sophie, and as she downed the last of her drink, she sighed and said," Invite who you want to it is your party after all. If Sophie doesn't want to go because Sky is, then maybe she's not a a true friend."
It dawned on me, that my mother was right.

This story has a lot of potential, but you just need to give it alot of work. Inject some character, work on the atmosphere of the story, and I think you can have a really cool story here :)
It takes something extraordinary, to make you crave for the ordinary.

Afrer just skimming through it, I saw that 1. you didn't break the text. and 2. the first paragrapgh should be shorten down, I mean really? Do you need to write all that? Other than that, I liked it.
"I can't just GO to Pigfarts. It's ON MARS. You need a rocket ship. Do you have a rocket ship, Potter? You know, I bet you do. Oh, look, it's Moonshoes Potter, Starkid Potter, traversing the galaxy on intergalactic travels to Pigfarts!"

I just want to be the side character in a book that basically steals the whole series.
