Hey everyone, so this is some work I started about a year ago, and I wasn't going to finish it, I was actaully going to delete it, but I wanted to know what everyone thought. If you think it's worth to keep writing. Just please give it a chance, I've really worked hard on it, and remember! I always write my stories before really editing them. So don't tell me it needs a lot of grammar and spelling work because i know that!!!!! Thanks!
Chapter one
How many times have I ran this trail? Too many times to count, to many times to remember.
And each time; it simply takes my breath away
The forest is full of life, full of beauty and promise. Promise to us who’ve seen the world crumble and melt under our feet. I can run freely here, be who am I; Bailey Soleil. I inhale the crisp air that threatens an up coming winter and listen to the rotting leaves crumble and break under my feet. I feel my muscles tighten every time I slam my feet into the ground with every stride.
I run up a slope and my leg muscles scream. Atop the small hill is a watch station that looks over the deep cliffs. I stand there for a short moment and exhale the air that has been collecting in my lungs since my run uphill. I inhale but the sight in front of me takes my breath away.
Life.
The forest is so full of it. As I peer down the cliffs I see bunches of green, no handfuls of it. A big sky glows orange and pink as the morning sun takes it time rising behind the forest. The sounds around me are soothing. Birds sing their songs and a woodpecker somewhere yonder interrupts the deadly silence of the night as it turns into morning.
I continue to run along the trail, an old wooden fence that has rotten spots separate me and the fifty foot drop that extends from the cliffs edge. I know that there is a tiny river below, I’ve swam in it plenty but my nerves still jitter inside me as I run so close to the fence. All I can think off is the death that would quickly follow if I happen to fall.
I didn’t want a death on the beautiful forests hands so I hang close to the trail.
The trail leads back into a labyrinth of trees. The sunlight shimmers down and bounces off the leaves making the forest swim in stroke lights. The forest is a disco, I note to myself- with bright lights and a gentle mist that tingles the bare skin on my leg as it wraps around me.
My heart starts to hammer in my chest as the trail curves down into a small clearing. Beads of sweat dribbles of my forehead as I try to defy the gravity that pulls me down the slanted slope. My legs try to stay beneath me as I try not to tumble down the hill. When I reach the bottom my feet hit the ground hard and I have to keep running to keep up with my legs that have suddenly gone turbo.
Once I have full control over my body I halt to a stop and lean over. I support my body by putting my hands on my thighs, I feel the spider web of scars under my left hand and a memory of fire flashes before my eyes. I close them quickly, and forget.
A jingle interrupts my short break and I look up at my watch which is blinking and playing a light tune. I nearly jump out of my skins when I see the time. I had to be at school in an hour!
Frustrated I pressed the button my watch to shut the tune off then turn to take a short cut home. A road that intercepts my street is only a few minutes run. When I get there the road is dark from the giant trees that grow over it. The road is over run, since nobody ever uses it. There is only one house on this street, and it’s been long abandoned. I break out into a run because the creeps slowly travel up my spine, and as I pass the house I notice something off.
It’s no longer abandoned; it was as lively as the forest around me.
A small sedan and two giant jeeps that make my mouth water in delight are parked in the long gravel driveway. Loud rock music booms out of the open windows which were usually boarded up. At the very top of the driveway was a small garage, which was also boarded up just weeks ago. Now it’s got a dozen or so lawn chairs, folded up and placed around a small pit in the middle. Tools and a lawn mower were at the very back and gardening tools and soil were placed around the yard.
I remember walking by the house only weeks ago, Tiff and I were headed to the river to go for a swim, it was only the end of September and the weather was hot. The house was shut up completely, and there was no sign of life. I knew that sometimes, rebellious teens would break in and party or drifters would break in and play house for awhile before they got caught, or nervous.
I’d have to ask Aunt Nora if anyone moved in. She was a receptionist at town hall and she always knew all the town gossip. If someone moved into this old abandoned house surly she would know.
I arrived home shortly after, I wanted to get away from that house incase serial killers had inhabited it.
My house was just on the outskirts of town; Hess Village. I’ve lived in Hess for all of my life, and with my cousin Tiffany and Aunt Nora since I was five, so for twelve years. Tiffany and I were the same age and went to high school together. I was grateful to them, they took my in after my mother was sent to St. Margret’s Mental Hospital for setting our cottage on fire.
My home was an older style of house. A wrap around porch hugged a two story brick house. Aunt Nora paints the shutters every other year, now they were deep green- to match the forest that swallowed up our yard. Purple and yellow wildflowers grew uncontrollably over the yard. Aunt Nora hated them, but I thought they were beautiful.
As I walked up the driveway I noticed Aunt Nora’s old station wagon was gone. Only my 1985 red CJ sat magnificently in the driveway- it was my mother’s jeep, but she signed it off to me when I turned sixteen more then a year ago. It had been a big surprised, I always loved jeeps and could always remember my mother working on it, and it was her second baby after me.
The door was unlocked when I walked in. I felt a blast of cold air as I walked through the door. Aunt Nora liked it cold and the air was usually on until the end of November, even in this north western weather.
Aunt Nora aspires to be an interior designer and likes to practice her skills on our home. Our front room was beautiful, decorated with tan leather sofas; old antiques Nora picked up from flee markets, and a big warm fireplace. It was always my favorite to come home on a cold winter day and walk into the warm, cozy living room. Our kitchen, which was through the hallway, was just as beautiful, it had a modern take on it, with mahogany granite slabs and a double stove. A small, simple black table set sat in the far corner of the kitchen because our house was too small for a dining room.
I walked up the stairs and headed for my room at the very back of the hallway. As I walked by Tiffany’s room I could hear her poppy boy band music. On her door, written in pink glittery stickers was her name, and underneath was a small note that read: ‘knock or keep out!’ I smiled at myself, when did I ever knock or keep out?
I walked into my room and closed the door behind me. I looked around my room; it was nothing like the rest of the house. It was very simple, light green walls, hard wood flooring, dark green curtains, and sort of disorganized. A large shelf that took up most of my wall was filled with tons of books, and all my favorite music. In the corner of my room was a small computer desk where my lap top and my ipod docking station sat. I took my clothes of layer by layer, kicking them and throwing them in every direction; I did this as I walked to the computer desk. I switched on my ipod and heard the music play as I walked into my bathroom, that was connected to my room and Tiff’s.
Once I was in the shower I remembered that I needed to write my mom today before she had an anxiety attack and started calling. Mom was on a tight schedule at the hospital, I was only allowed to call on Thursday’s and she expected a letter every Monday, so I had a week. It was very important I didn’t disrupt her schedule; Dr. Moe, Mom’s doc, was very particular about this, he only let me visit once every three months. He said it was because she had Skitsofrenia. I didn’t believe she was, but what do I know- I’m only seventeen.
After my shower I did a half fast job in blow drying my hair, it was still half wet when I threw it up into a messy ponytail. After that I put on an old pair of blue jeans that were a little holey, and my dark red sweater that I had stolen from Tiffany’s closet. I smiled at myself as I took a quick peak in my mirror, even though I was wearing a ratty old pair of jeans; I seem to pull it off.
I grabbed my book bag and slung it over my shoulder then skipped over to my dresser to grab an envelope and a stamp so I could mail a letter to my mom after school. I stuffed it in the front pocket of my bag then headed for downstairs; school started in less then twenty minutes.
Tiffany was downstairs sitting at the kitchen table, facing the wall. She was slung over the kitchen table and I could see her shoulders shuddering; she was crying.
“Tiff!” I walked over and sat in the chair beside her.
Her round face was red and blotchy, and her eyes were nearly bloodshot. In front of her was an empty plastic container, only white powdery debris was left in the cracks. It was an empty doughnut container, and I couldn’t help but feel horrified.
“Mom left these here!” She blurted out, and I watched as the tears slowly crept down her cheek.
I grabbed onto her hand and wished that I could make her horrible food addiction disappear.
Tiffany had always been a little overweight; she had always loved to eat ever since I could remember. It was so bad Nora had to stop buying fattening food, cookies, candy, and especially doughnuts weren’t allowed through the front door of this house and if they did Tiffany would surly find a way to her hands on it.
She’s been doing so well though, I told myself as I looked into her big blue eyes. She had lost nearly twenty pounds, and to be fair she wasn’t even that big to begin with. Plus she was beautiful, she was a sugar plum, really sweet, always looking her best, but she was just a little bigger then average.
I took the empty container and threw it into the garbage. “I’m sure your mom didn’t mean to for you to see this.”
I walked back over to the table and pulled her up out of the chair. She was reluctant to get up, but she did. “She probably did it on purpose; she’s always saying that you guys suffer to because I can’t control my addiction.”
“Oh please.” I said. “She didn’t say it like that she said that we’re all going to eat healthier, and we have been for a year now, you’re allowed a treat once in a while.”
“That was way more then a treat Bailey!” She slammed her chair as she pushed it under the table.
“Common Tiff, it’ll be fine we’ll go for a walk tonight.”
“It’s so easy for you to say, you’re perfect! You have a hot boyfriend, and so so pretty, and I’m just fat ugly, lonely Tiffany.” She spurted out, and then let her eyes over flow with tears.
I gave her a stern look, letting her know that acting that way wouldn’t fly with me. Then I turned around, grabbed my car keys of the kitchen counter. If she was going to act like this then she can walk to school and be late for all I care. How dare she think that I’m perfect? I may not be fat, but I have a crazy mother I’m only allowed to see four times a year and an ugly scar on my thigh! But I don’t ever let it get me down.
“Hey where are you going?” She shouted at me as I walked into the living room.
“School.”
“Well aren’t you going to drive me?” Tiffany ran after me, her pudgy face looking concerned.
“I guess, but no more attitudes.” I slid my feet into my moxican boots and began lacing them up. Just as I finished then phone in the kitchen started to ring. I looked at Tiffany who was standing at the door, waiting for her to jump and answer the phone.
“It’s probably mom.” She said once she caught me looking at her. “And I don’t really want to talk to her.”
I sighed and ran over to the phone. “Hello?” I answered.
“Bailey, its Aunt Nora, listen there is a container of doughnuts on the counter, I was supposed to bring them into work but.”
“They’re gone.” I interrupted her.
“Tiffany found them? I thought I hide them so well. I was going to ask if you could drop them off at the office.” Nora said sounding concerned.
“Ya sorry Aunt Nora, but they’re gone.” I felt sorry for her, Tiffany probably wont speak to her for days now and Nora’s always working so hard in trying to make there relationship good.
“Great.” She moaned. “Okay well, I won’t be home till late tonight so you guys are on your own for dinner.”
“That’s fine.” I said. It’ll probably just be me eating tonight anyways; Tiffany never ate after she gorged.
I was about to say goodbye when I remembered something I wanted to ask. “Oh wait before you go, do you know if anyone bought that abandoned house, the one on River Street?”
Nora was silent on the other end of the phone, just for a few seconds before answering. “No one bought it; the previous owners came back actually. They came to town hall a week ago to get the power and water turned on.”
“Okay, just thought someone broke in.” I looked at the time flashing on the clock atop the TV. “I gotta go Aunt Nora; I’m going to be late.”
Tiff and I managed to be only ten minutes late.
We walked in our math class together, while Mr.Whiley was taking up yesterday’s previous homework. He didn’t say anything as we cut him off as we hurried to the back of the class to our desk. He was the nicest teacher ever; a push over- a nice old man.
I slung my bag over my chair and grabbed my homework from my bag. When I looked up, my boyfriend of almost one year, Luke Weller was smiling at me.
My heart exploded in my chest, his chocolate brown eyes were beaming at me, making all my problems seem to disappear. I had to tear my eyes away from his because I didn’t want him to see the innocent blush that spread like wild fire across my cheeks. I took out my homework from my binder and spread it across the desk, trying to find the spot that Mr.Whiley was discussing at the moment, but I couldn’t concentrate, Luke was still beaming at me.
“Rough morning?” He whispered to me once Mr.Whiley turned around to write something on the black chalkboard.
I gave him a sideways glance as I tucked a piece of my caramel and honey hair behind my ear. “Why do I look that horrible this morning?”
He laughed out loud, making a few students in the room turn their heads curious heads. “No no, you look beautiful, you just look a little upset.”
Beside me, Tiffany shuffled her unfinished homework up. “That’s my fault, I made her mad.”
Luke raised his eyebrow. “And late?”
“And late.” Confessed Tiffany.
I let a small smile creep up on my face, even though I still was a little upset with my cousin, I couldn’t help but forgive her. I knew that she was just frustrated at herself, and she had a problem with taking it out on other people. She barley talks to her mom anymore.
Mr.Whiley took his time taking up our homework, making sure the whole class understood the mathematical problems he assigned us by asking us each a question. He then gave us another assignment which had to be completed by the end of tomorrow’s class. Once he left us alone to start working on our assignment, Luke turned to me and pulled out his cockiest smile.
“Are you going to come over tonight?” He asked.
I closed my eyes and tried to think of an excuse not to go. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to; I just knew he was starting to expect more then I could give him – sexually.
“Um maybe, let me think about it.” I answered trying not to look at his disappointed face.
“I’ll come over Luke!” A perky voice said from behind me.
Tiffany and I groaned. Clare De Sosa, the closest thing to an enemy a pair of seventeen year olds could have been now sitting at our table. Her bleached blonde hair, googly blue eyes, and irritating smile were causing some major discomfort to my soul.
“You know Luke, there is much more room at our table.” Clare said as she eyed Tiffany. “This table seems a little full.”
Tiffany’s eyes started to fill up with hot salty tears as Clare puckered her lips seductively at Luke. I dropped my hand onto the desk making our books jump from the tremor I made. All the faces that sat around me were suddenly staring at me, but I was only looking at once thing. Glaring with all my might at Clare.
“I never asked you if you wanted to sit here.” I told her. “So you can leave.”
Clare stood up quickly and then glanced at Luke. “Seriously Luke, you have a crazy girlfriend. She going to end up like her mother you know.”
I stood up, pushing the desk out making myself the center of attention for the rest of the class. Girls watched cell phones in their hands, ready to spread the gossip around and the guys watched hopeful of a cat fight.
“I’m going to forget you said that Clare, or I’ll show you how crazy I really am.” I warned her, keeping my voice down so the by standers couldn’t hear.
She looked at Luke, her face taken back and just a small glimpse of fear. Then as slyly and sneaky as she came she left without another word. I sat down at my desk suddenly feeling embarrassed and foolish. I wondered what Luke was thinking, was he embarrassed of me? Did he want to go sit with Clare and her group? I snuck a sideways glance at him, he looked quite normal. I waited a few minutes to lift my head. I didn’t want to see my classmates stare.
“Miss Soleil are you okay?” An older voice said from somewhere ahead of me.
I looked up to see Mr.Whiley’s face full of concern. He was probably wondering if there was a need to kick me out of class, maybe even call the school nurse incase I had a melt down. But, I wasn’t my mother, and I wasn’t crazy like everyone thought.
“I’m fine, I’m sorry to disrupt your class.” I said sincerely and conjured up a small smile.
Mr.Whiley nodded and sighed in relief. “Alright Bailey, if you need anything I’ll be at my desk.”
I looked around at my classmates to see their reaction. An acquaintance of mine, Jenna Brow was watching me from the corner. I caught her eyes with mine and gave her a genuine smile. She didn’t return it back, but instead tore her eyes from mine and uncomfortably shifted her body to face the closed window. Anxiety bubbled in my stomach like a fizzy drink being poured into a glass. I looked around at the other students and their eyes would dodge out of the path of mine.
Great, I thought to myself as Mr.Whiey walked away. Now the whole school is going to think I flew over the coo coo’s nest. Like mother like daughter, I could almost feel Clare’s sly, convincing smile from somewhere behind me.
“The whole school doesn’t think you’re a nut.” Tiffany told me as we sat outside in the sunshine.
It was lunch time, and my day had gone from bad to worse.
We sat out in the grass that just edged up into the forest. The sun was shining above, but clouds from the east threatened rain which didn’t surprise me. Living in Oregon, rain was usually part of the daily routine.
Yellow dandelions grew uncontrollably around us. I plucked one out of the ground and looked at it closely. I knew it was a weed, but I found them pretty; it was the bright yellow petals. I always thought yellow was such a happy color.
“Did you see the way everyone looked at me?” I twirled the yellow weed through my two fingers. “Everyone is expecting me to go home and set our house on fire.”
Tiffany bit down on bottom lip. “Your mom’s sick Bails, you’re not sick and everyone knows it.”
Of course everyone knew, my mother was the big talk of the town. People pitied her, blamed my father for setting her over the deep in because he left her even before I was born. But no one really understood what was going on inside her head. I don’t really remember it, but she started to see monsters, hairy beasts that stalked her, watched her in the grocery store, called her on the telephone, gazed at her through open windows. A fairytale that she believed.
The only memory I have of her meltdown was the straw that finally broke the camels back. It’s funny how much detail I remember even though I was only four.
It was one washed out rainy days, and Tiffany was over in the morning. I remember mom being nervous, and scared. Always looking through the curtains like she was waiting for someone. When Aunt Nora came to pick Tiffany up she had along talk with my mom in the kitchen. When their talk was done Aunt Nora and Tiffany left and Mom quickly locked all the doors behind her. She barley noticed me, which wasn’t to out of the ordinary but that day was different. She had promised a picnic down at the stream and I waited and waited all afternoon. Then all I remember is the smoke, the big black heavy monster that rolled under my bedroom door and suffocated me. I pulled the door open, knowing the there was a fiery monster behind it and ran through the hallway trying to find my mom. Flames licked my thigh as I ran past the kitchen, I screamed in pain while coughing through the smoke trying to breath. Trying to escape the place that was once my home, but now it had became a graveyard, a haunted place, a tomb that was burying me alive. I had to get out, but I was too worried about my mom. Where was she? Why didn’t she come to save me from this fiery hell? Fear was contracting from within me, and eventually the darkness took me as I passed out because of the smoke pushing the air out from my lungs. When I woke I was being pushed into the ambulance and my thigh felt like it had melted right off my leg. I thought I was dying. I saw mom being handcuffed, crying and mumbling about the beasts she had trapped in the fire she had started. That’s all I can remember about that day because I’m sure the morphine they gave me made the rest of my day fuzzy.
“Didn’t you see Luke’s face?” I asked Tiffany after a few minutes of thought. “I bet he thinks I’m nuts.”
“No, he thought it was funny.”
“I wonder where he is anyways” Tiffany said and looked around the schoolyard.
The bell rang and we stood up and headed towards the big metal doors that lead into the school.
Luke didn’t tell me where he was going so I just assumed that he was at football practice, or hanging out with his friends from the team. But now that Tiffany brought it up, he usually told me he wasn’t going to join us for lunch.
All of a sudden I was paranoid again.
“Did you hear about the two new boys at school?” Tiffany opened the door for me and I walked in to the hot muggy hallway.
I shook my head. The only gossip I’ve heard today was that Clare was telling people I had a mental break down in class.
“Well I haven’t seen them, but apparently there smoking hot and our age.” Tiff said excitedly. “So you get one and I get one.”
We reached my class and I turned to Tiffany as I laughed. “If you’re brave enough to ask a guy out Tiffany then yes I will dump Luke and run after the other guy.”
Tiffany and I both knew this wasn’t going to happen, when it came to boys Tiffany was as stiff as a board. She was terified of talking to them, and when I first started to date Luke she wouldn’t even talk to Luke. He had to really try to become friends with her.
The rest of the day flew by quicker then I could have hoped and as soon as I knew it I was walking into my last period English class.
English was the only class that Tiff didn’t have with me. So we bid Farwell to each other and she climbed up the stairs to her business class and I turned into my English class – the second class I have with Luke.
Luke was sitting at our desk in the far corner of the classroom. Once I came into view he waved at me and smiled his flashy white teeth and quick eyes. I smiled back at him as I wove threw the desks. I almost didn’t notice the boy at first; he was hunched over with his black hoodie swallowing up his neck. But a flicker of his eyes caught my attention. They were the most beautiful eyes I had ever seen. The were the bluest of eyes I had ever gazed upon, electric and alive, full of depth and color.
My eyes tore away from him and found Luke’s chocolate brown eyes. They were watching me with amusement, and curiosity. I sat down beside him and nudged his ribs.
“Where were you at lunch?”
Luke shrugged and his eyes skittered away “With the guys, you know?”
I bit down on my bottom lip just as Miss. S walked in, her name wasn’t really Miss. S, and she just had us call her that because her name was way past too many syllables for us high school kids. Her heals clicked against the ceramic floor and she stood up at the front of the class, her hand on her hips and waited for our attention.
It only took a few seconds to the buzzing on the class to quiet down.
“Okay, okay” Miss S, usually started her class with a bit of a rundown of the hour. “So if you kids didn’t notice, we have a newbie.” Her face nodded in the blue eyed boy’s direction. “Nathan Kilean, so please make him feel welcome. Now today we will be working on our reports, they are due Friday, and make sure their typed”
Miss S glared at a boy named Alex “No chicken scratch this time Alex, or it’ll be a zero.”
The class chuckled and Miss S smiled. Miss S seemed a little rouge around the edges, but she was really a good teacher. There have been many times she’s taken time to make sure I was happy- because everyone knew about my mom. Everyone.
Miss S walked to her desk and sat down in the old wooden chair and began to do her own work. Luke chuckled and put an arm around me, pulling me closer to him, my chair scraped against the floor casting an ugly sound.
“So have you thought about tonight?” Luke asked.
Ignoring him, I reached into my bag and pulled out my already completed report and began to read through it, trying to scope out any errors.
“Bail-ey?” He poked my ribs, making me laugh. “Earth to Bailey?”
“What?” I said, making sure he could here me scowl.
“Tonight? Are you coming over tonight?”
“No I don’t think so.” I flipped the page, not wanting to look at the disappointment across his face. “I have to write Mom a letter tonight, or it’ll be late and ruin her schedule.”
Luke growled. “Oh common Bailz, it doesn’t take you all night to write a dumb letter to your mom.”
I snapped my head up and glared at him. “I’m not coming over tonight Luke.”
Luke stayed quiet while I reread my report, then when I got to the last page and hung on the last word he cleared his throat and spoke.
“Why are you like this?” His voice was barley a whisper “You never want to come over unless were out in a group, or out somewhere. Why wont you spend alone time with me?”
Guilt swallowed my insides but so did fear. I didn’t want to fight with Luke, it seemed like that’s all we did lately. And I knew that if I didn’t go over or tell him the truth about how I truly felt, we would only continue to fight. So I swallowed and started to tell him.
“Listen Luke, I know what you do when we’re alone. You’re all over me, and it makes me feel pressured.” I fingered the edge of my report, lightly tracing the white pages. “I’ve told you before that I’m only going to have sex if I’m ready, we’ve talked about this before.”
Luke looked out the window, his chin slightly pointed. He was mad, I could tell he was mad by the way his eyes hardened and his knuckles turned white in his fists.
“If you come tonight, I’ll prove it to you that I respect your decision.” Luke muttered.
I sighed. “You’ve told me that before.”
Luke slammed his fist down at the table, making me jump along with some of the other students. “How can you be like that? I do so much for you, stick up for you and your crazy mom, and your overweight cousin.”
My mouth hung open in disgust. I hated Luke’s temper; he had such a horrible one. This isn’t his first tantrum. I turned away and looked at the floor. Particles of dirt scattered across the shiny floor, distracting me from my tears for a few moments.
“I’m sorry Bailey, just come over tonight okay?” Luke whined. “We’ll talk about this.”
Nathan, the new kid scraped his chair across the floor as he turned around and began to stand up. I nearly gasped at how big he was, he was tall, tall and solid. His skin was a beautiful russet color, almost like butterscotch but a little bit darker, and his lips were so soft. Even though his face was hard, hard with anger.
Luke flickered his eyes at Nathan and he was just taken aback as I was. “Hey man, do you play football, we’re looking for a-”
Nathan cut him off “Will you shut up? I haven’t been here two minutes and I can already tell you’re a rude little prick. If you’re going to sit here and say rude things to her”
My face turned crimson, was this really happening? I opened my mouth to protest, to tell him I was okay, to tell him something but he continued to speak.
“I’m going to teach you how to be polite towards woman. You got it? Man”
Luke’s face brightened and he stood up, taking on the challenge. The whole class turned their heads at the distraction, at me. All I wanted to do was crumple, to burn out and slip away. But those blue eyes were locked on mine and I felt my world melt away.
“And who the hell are you?” Luke growled. “To just come to here and start fights? Man I was trying to be nice and invite you to our football team. But you made enemies.”
Nathan laughed. “You don’t scare me, kid.” Nathans eye’s flickered on mine. “Don’t let him treat you like this, Bonita”
“What did you just call her?” Luke showed his teeth and Nathan chuckled.
Nathan ignored Luke and walked up to the front of the class were he said something to Miss. S who started at him wide eyed. Then he left. Just as simply as that he left.
Luke was still steaming, muttering about how he’s going to kick Nathan’s ass and then got up himself and left.
I sighed, shakily, trying to keep the tears from spilling. But all I kept asking myself was ‘what the hell just happened’.
