Blaze blinked. He didn't know what he'd been expecting when he pulled the board off the wall, but it wasn't this.
"...Mary?" he asked. She was curled into the furthest corner of the hole, face distorted by shadows and tears, but he was pretty sure it was her. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you."
Mary-Magdalene sniffled, wiping her face on her sweater. Blaze looked away, sympathy swelling in his chest. She must've been the one to find Sidonie. What a thing to witness, especially after a day like this. A murder...
A murder.
Blaze shifted uncomfortably. Sidonie didn't drop dead on her own. Somebody must have killed her...and that somebody was still loose in the school.
"Come on, Mary, we have to go," he said, trying his best to keep his voice steady. He didn't want to make her move--this spot seemed like her safe space. But it wasn't safe anymore. "There's a murderer in the school. And they might be looking for you."
