So, my school is hosting a nation wide (school wide but online school)digital art competition.
and I being an over committer made the stupid decision to join. ( also because I just want to try more things)
The only problem is I have never done any kind of digital art, and all I have to use is my computer mouse.
I really don't think I'll even cone close to winning but I want to use this as a chance to focus on learning. So to prepare I will be practicing and learning a bunch about digital art. And I want to document my progress (because I know I am bad right now but I want to see my improvements along the way.) ( and everyone can see how incredibly bad I am)
So for learning sake let's begin!

First off is me just playing around with textures and trying to learn all the features of the software I am using (it is KRITA if anyone is interested)
I kind of like the way it looks but defenintly have a long way to go.

this one has a great deal of improving to go, and I can't get past something about her expression (and here ears are HUGE)
However this really helped me learn a lot! I feel like it actually might be possible for me to improve now:)
It also helped me learn how to do certain things and things like the importance of using layers and adding small details and shading in a certain way. pretty proud of myself considering my mouse limitations lol

:for this one I used a character reference @tatteredbones maybe you can recognize her? (if i drew it better maybe)
this is definently a character I want to come back to later and work especially on the facial features and proportions.
I am happy with the shading, I learned a lot there and I think it really helps a lot. I also had fun playing around with the texture of her clothes
even though I am disappointed with the way the face and hair looks it helps me know what to work on now.

This is a character from my new story - Lyrissa. I wanted to try doing a full body and then work on shading again and then I also liked the hair and the shading. This is just a rough draft though.

Just a little doodle I did earlier, I like the way the mushroom looks and I think I found a good tool. Definitely a lot to work on but some good practice!

On another note I'm kinda upset because I had this whole Idea about what I was going to draw and it was what I think is an interesting thoughtful idea. But then I read this quote from the rules
"Art must represent a part of you, something you like, or something you enjoy" to me this makes from some pretty boring ideas and I'm really disappointed because it's just not interesting and creative at this point it's going to rely more on technical skill and that makes me kinda upset but oh well. Anyway this is just a way to learn and grow so whatever...

hmm... well, i think if what you were going to draw was interesting to you, that could represent something you like! and if this really is just a way to learn and grow, i'd say go with what you want to draw... i find that learning is a lot more fun when i'm actually interested in what i'm doing, lol. ^^

I guess I should mention I submitted it. It's not great, But I still learned a lot. No matter what I have found that I LOVE digital art, and it is definently a passion worth pursuing! I doubt I will mention if I win or loose because I feel like that's not really the purpose of this thread. From now on I think I will be just posting my digital art here! So this isn't the end of mart art...
