Day 30
Title: Labour Rains, Flowers Bloom
Theme: Gardening
Matching Poem: (Alfred Dorn Sonnet)
Cotton clings to fingers as labour rains
down onto their backs. It's impossible to see
the invisible grimaces etched out in pain.
Their only fuel the hope of being free
against wearied hearts that brim with disdain
and crave the homes in which they'd rather be.
But if the slave boy didn't raise his head
he'd be turned away and left for dead.
At a toddler's age torn from his home of three
yet admiring the new day as if not to miss
the blessing it might bring, as happiness holds the key.
Gazing at flowers which reach for a morning kiss
and grasping cotton after cotton with a silent plea
losing himself in memories of endless bliss.
