Day 30
Title: Labour Rains, Flowers Bloom
Theme: Gardening
Matching Poem: (Alfred Dorn Sonnet)

Cotton clings to fingers as labour rains
down onto their backs. It's impossible to see
the invisible grimaces etched out in pain.
Their only fuel the hope of being free
against wearied hearts that brim with disdain
and crave the homes in which they'd rather be.

But if the slave boy didn't raise his head
he'd be turned away and left for dead.

At a toddler's age torn from his home of three
yet admiring the new day as if not to miss
the blessing it might bring, as happiness holds the key.
Gazing at flowers which reach for a morning kiss
and grasping cotton after cotton with a silent plea
losing himself in memories of endless bliss.

Day 31
Title: Books in Hands are All I Need
Theme: None
Matching Poem:

Blood rains down on the wide plains
trickling along the crevices
which I press to my lips
and suck dry, drinking in the
knowledge of the world.

Day 32
Title: Let's Slide Away (From this Mess)
Theme: Playground
Matching Poem: (Erasure, taken from Eyes Wide Shut 11.2)

Let's slide away
(from this mess)

smell
before we see it
no other way
to describe
how it swirled into the air
and forced
its way up our noses

rounding corners
gasping at the hundreds
close against one another
lining one side
families...

we walked past.

Let's slide away
(from this mess)

old men
greying hair, saggy eyes
skin folding into itself
thousands of times over
bumps and wrinkles
shadowed eyes.

monsters
monsters here to gobble me up

poor, poor people
this is the end
just another statistic
nothing memorable
nothing, nobody
deserved to be forgotten

we walked past.

Let's slide away
(from this mess)

Day 34
Title: Circular Sadness
Theme: Sadness
Matching Poem:

Sadness circles around me
like the crashing waves
on a bone dry beach.
It washes away tears that drip
from reddened corners.

It is not a linear thing.
It's a pool of infinity
swiveling into itself;
a perfectly thrown curve ball
that no swing will ever meet.

From reddened corners
it washes away tears that drip
on a bone dry beach.
Like the crashing waves
sadness circles around me.

Day 35
Title: Circular Sadness II
Theme: Sadness
Matching Poem: Coming...

It is not a linear thing
and it does not restrain
the force, the vibration of
spasms that gather at my
base.

And as gasp and stutter
the giggle emerges itself;
impossible to withhold
as the circles of sadness
blast from my skin
so only happiness simmers
inside.

Day 37
Title: Space Bars
Theme: An Open Space
Matching Poem:

there's always space between the bars.
bubbles beneath every
smooth line of chocolate.
lining all neatly in order.
a perfect climax to our
game of anarchy.
let's make space
between the bars
of society.

we'll stand tall and strong
like astronauts;
isolated among the foreign worlds
that breed eggs of harmony.
almost a copy of our
astronaut soldiers
making space between the bars.

it was said to be impossible
to put toy soldiers on the moon.
but just before the vital first step
there was a space between the bar
shoe in line with the cool surface
like rows of chocolate
our astronauts doing the possible -
erasing our space bars.

Day 38
Title: Sister, Sister
Theme: Siblings
Matching Poem:

Sister, Sister
please
tell me where we went wrong.
We used to be
like paper to pencil
but nowadays my engravings
only rub
the wrong way.

And I poured all my lead
into the vision of us.
Drawing strong arms
interwoven fingers
and glued hearts.

Sister, Sister
please
tell me how you could leave.
You burned a hole
through our yellowed pages.
Salty tears
didn't wash away the pain
but extinguished the flames.

We folded into ourselves
a poor imitation.
I came out in the wind
but you're forever trapped
in the loosened drawer.

Sister, Sister
please
breathe once more for me, please
whisper once again, please
let our drawings and words be one,
please
don't go.

Day 39
Title: Black and White
Theme: Ice cream/ice lollies
Matching Poem:

her body was made of ridges
words printed along her arms
buttons pushed in further than should be
a slave
calculating needs before needed
her black skin
wishing for a white frame.

Day 40
Title: The Climb to Us
Theme: Friends
Matching Poem:

back to you.
rampaging the earth until I could climb
unfelt. I might turn into a monster
actions gone undone and feelings gone
gaps in this body. Words gone unsaid,
If we ever were to part there would be
together like puzzle pieces and become one
and I took bites of you, So we slotted
ourselves. You took bites of me.
We smiled as we exchanged
smiled as we drifted by.
like a cliff face that
we are was smooth
The climb to us.

Day 42
Title: The Grains of our Fields
Theme: Clouds
Matching Poem:

a grain
is the genesis
that lines up
capsules of energy
and hides them
in our forms
as a beautiful
exodus.

a song
is the genesis
to my blood
pumping with an
erratic beat
that shoots through
my limbs
so they twitch and jive
an exodus
to rhythm.

a promise
is the genesis
to the belief of more
that quells the want
so I am quiet
and demure
an exodus
of peace.

Day 44
Title: Rippling Shadows
Theme: Lake
Matching Poem:

The shadows ripple
and whisper to me
through the day
and night.

As the sea quivers and spits
out a swimming rage
which builds and builds –
a wave that hurls itself
into the worn down rocks.
Yellow mingles with blue.

And as my toes sink
down into this soft blanket
of miniature stones

the shadows ripple
and whisper to me
through the day
and night.
