Old Stuff

So it's been awhile since I've been on here, but I have a couple sketches I've done in the past year or so...Nothing super special.

I call him The Grump. He's based off a photo I found on flickr awhile back...


I had a thing about drawing hands for a bit so these are some of the remnants of that...






And a couple photographs:








All of these I used effects on except for the beach and ocean photos. What'd'ya think?

Man, I thought that the grump was amazing. You did a great job at capturing his eyes and that's just awesome. And he just looks so wrinkly and well-drawn, that's cool stuff . Besides The Grump I liked the picture with all the hands that are outlined with the black rectangles. There is just something kind of cool about it, all those hands right there and overlapping each other. And then I really liked the eye pics. That's a cool effect where you have the whole picture black and white except for the brown eye pigment. It's different, you know? I'm kind of a sucker for like, awesome eye pictures though. They just look so cool... Eyes are the window to the soul, or something like that, right? Well, it was cool to see some of your art. Keep it up, .

I will comment on the pictures you took.

1. This is beautiful. It is a bit blurry, but I think that gives it a nice affect. I don't like the small lines I circled in pink though.

2. This is so cool! How did you get that shot, and what program did you use to make the one part gray and the other not? The eye seems a bit added in. Maybe you should soften the colors and texture.

3. This is O.K. The rose (?) seems a bit blurry. I would love to see the original picture.

4. This picture is really cool. It makes me think of an actor that has layers of make-up on hiding her true self. So much that when she looks in the mirror she doesn't know who she is any more, and she can't see her natural beauty. Did this picture have a deeper meaning to you? I think you should cut off the green thing on the left side though. It is kind of distracting. The picture should end at her hair.

5. I love this. The detail you got of the mascara is amazing. Who's eye is it? Did you use flash? I don't like how I can see the camera reflected, but I love how the eyelashes are.

6. This is good, but I would have rather not seen the boy or the dock. Everything else is awesome.

Since you're interested here's the original of the flower

You're right about the flower being out of focus. I was hoping the inverted colors would cover that up...

The forth one is a picture of me actually. I hadn't really given the meaning behind it much thought.... What you're saying does make sense though. I may steal that explanation.

Five is also a picture of my eye... I put on tons and tons of mascara for that I didn't use flash but I had a bright light on above the camera so that's where the extra light and reflection is from. I think I'd have to try from a couple other angles to figure out how to keep the reflection of the camera out.

Hmmm for some reason I like how the rose isn't the focus, though it would have looked better the other way. Sometimes there is beauty in things that aren't beautiful. haha I got all deep on you again.

I really like the face sketch, simply because of its anatomy and rugged lines. Those lines give it some very interesting shapes. I'd really like to see how it looks with shadows and highlights.

I like the drawings of the many hands. And the one of the water at sunset. And the one the eye...the one that makes it look huge. :] Very nice!!

The sketch of the grump is an excellent piece from what I can see of it. I think you should define the edges more, however, and add some shading to it, because it's all very light right now, and shading does wonderful things.

I think your hands could use some shading as well, because drawing hands is a tricky (and frustrating) process. The fingers tend to look tangled and confused without shading, so it's hard to tell which is the forefinger, middle, etc. My recommendation is to shade them, and with the shading, define the upper hand from the under hand as well as create depth between the fingers that you have thus far.


I'm not too keen on the photos here, although I do think your photo of the brown eye is interesting. I'm not one for over edited photos (wait, scratch that, I am), or those that look inverted or heat processed. There's something about them that makes it difficult for me to appreciate them as artistic.

Nice work, though. Keep it up.

Hey, I'm Lizzy and I am a photographer. I hope my comments don't come across as too harsh (just trying to help you become a better photographer). I'm a little picky about perfection. OCD as I have been called.

PHOTOS:
#1) Very pretty colors but a little blurry.

#2) I absolutely love this one! The photoshopping you did was great and the observer can feel the emotions of the girl. Great work!

#3) The negative color photoshop brings out some beautiful colors but the white in the back is too my and creates negative space.

#4) The photoshopping on this is awesome! The only thing I don't like is the expression on the girl's face.

#5) This one is just plain out amazing and that's all I have to say about it.

#6) This one would be awesome if the boy wasn't standing there.

FLOWER PHOTO:
I'm not a fan of the focus but it would be pretty switched around.

BACKYARD PHOTOS:
#1) Love it! But the hand is a little blurry.
#2) Love it!
#3) Awesome but I would crop out the house in the bottom if I were you.
#4) Great angle and colors but the bottom right-hand corner is blurry and distracts from the basketball hoop a bit.
