Hiya,

Just a tip before I begin the review: these photos are a little big. While it's nice that you've put them in spoilers so they don't stretch out the browser, it's still a pain to have to scroll. I wrote a guide about resizing images here. It would be magnificent if we could all look at everything the same size and without having to scroll. Anyway, to the review.

#1- I absolutely adore this picture. Despite the subject of it, it's quite serene and I love how you captured the essence of the flames. One thing I'd want to comment on is how in-your-face close we are. I think it would be nice to see the tips of the flame, as it constitutes a lot of what make flames beautiful. If you do a quick google search for fire, you'll see that this is true. Otherwise, I love it.

#2- To me this seems a little bland. We see trees, especially in winter, all the time in photography, and yours doesn't add anything that's visually stimulating. I can't even tell what your focus here is supposed to be. There's a tree really close up, but that seems pushed off to the side in favor of the snowy expanse.

#3- Again this picture feels bland. It's dead leaves that are about to fall off of a tree. So? I can tell the effect that you were trying to go for, but here it just somewhat is in vain. If you look at pictures of autumn leaves, you'll see somewhat of a vibrancy to them. Here, it just feels like death.

#4- Meh. I like what you trying to do with the focus thing, but overall I just get a sense of dizziness. It's better then photos #2 and #3, but it doesn't really live up to it's potential. The angle feels a little unfocused and weird; it's like we're getting a half aerial, have side view of the plant. And the trees look like they're about to spin around and just the thought of it makes me unfocused.

Anyway! I'm sorry if I sound a little harsh, but I really do think that these pictures have potential. Just keep snapping photos, and don't ever, [i]ever[i] be discouraged. I'd like to see more from you in the future. Good luck, and Pm me if you need anything.

Photo 1 - I don't go in much for this type of photography unless it is really well done. I much prefer my sweeping landscapes and what not but I quite like this. I like the contrast of the bright orangey red against the black. It works really well. However all I would say is that it could have been much better had you just tiled your camera slightly up. At the moment you have this black dead space at the bottom and the tops of the flame cut off. But other than that this is a good shot.

Photo 2 - I have to say that this is my favourite of the bunch. Unlike Elinor, I think it is perfectly fine that you have set the tree up in the right hand side of the frame. Not every subject of a photograph has to be bang in the centre of the frame, indeed sometimes it is much better and more compositionally pleasing to place a subject off to the side. I think it works well here. You see the tree and then you can somewhat follow the shadow of the tree to see this expanse of snow. I think it works well also because the tree is somewhat lone. The colours are good, you struck lucky on the fact that the tree is a silver birch so you have that connecting the tree and the snow. It might have been interesting to see this shot in portrait aswell but that is just me, I like mixing up landscape type photos and turning them into portrait shots because you can make such interesting lines. Especially with trees because they kind of lend themselves to portrait framing. But anyway I am rambling. I like this shot.

Photo 3 - I would say this is my least favourite of the four shots. I think I mainly don't like this photo because I feel that it doesn't have much of a focus. I get that you are trying to focus on the leaves but there isn't one or two that are compositionally positioned to direct my attention towards them. Having them on either side of the frame makes my eye immediately go to the middle of the photo but the problem is, is that there is nothing in the centre of the photo except fuzzy trees and so this then becomes a problematic photo compositionally. I actually like the colour in this photo and how the leaves are wilting as though they are about to detach. You don't have to follow the conventions and have vibrant autumnal photos. I just think it would have been better had you tried to focus the photo more.

Photo 4 - Flower photos are my least favourite type of photos lol But I do like the colour that you have in this photo, especially with it set against the white in the background and also the light in this photo is stunning, it creates these nice strong shadows and vibrant colours. All I would say is that you might have a bit too much dead space around the plant and perhaps it would have been better to go in a little tighter just to eradicate this dead space. The problem with dead space is that when a viewer sees it, it makes their eye wander away from the subject and so you have to strike a careful balance between using dead space to your advantage compositionally and having too much dead space. Of course it all depends on the individual photo as well.

Overall - I think you definitely have some sort of eye and all these photos are good they just need a little tweak here and there and present you with something to think about next time you go photographing. I hope to see more from you soon.

I'm terrible at critiquing photos, I just want to say how much I like some of these!
I seriously think the first one, the fire, is immense. I've never actually seen a photo like that before. It's really effective and I'm one of those weird people who love fire. It's very pretty and the black background makes the picture even more effective.

As for the second one, I really do like it. It's a simple idea, but it's ever so pretty. It also reminds me of Christmas which makes me smile. The colours in it are extremely pretty as well. They work very well together, they are all soft colours. I don't know if it's just em, but I think that it looks kind of 'posh'. I know that it's kind of weird, but it has an expensive feel t it for some reason. It does for me, anyway!

The third one isn't my favourite, but I definitely like it. It reminds me of death, which is probably why it's not my favourite. I think it's mainly because the leaves look dead and it seems to be quite a dark, negative picture. That's how I see it. I think that it works rather effectively though, to be honest. I agree with beck when she said that there isn't really anything to focus on though.

When it comes to your last one, I think it's cool. The plant itself is really unique and interesting, that definitely helps. I like the colours in this one. They are simple but the brown shades and the white shades look very nice together. It kind of makes the picture look simple but very effective at the same time. Yeah... I like it!

I don't have much of a clue about photography whatsoever, so sorry I wasn't much help

Hey, you seem to know more about it then you think! I like the advice a lot. Mostly because you only said good things while everyone else actually pointed out faults Just saying.

Well, first and last are definitely my favorites. The first is so calm, it's almost strange that it's of something so wild. And I just like good pictures of fire, like this one.

The second is pretty but not exactly my thing. I think the background kind of messed with it, because you have the clear blue, and then choppy white and brown and gray. Not the best.

The third is actually really good, it's just not as interesting as some of the others.

The fourth is nice and sharp and bold; the close up looks so good with that type of subject, and it just looks cool.

Nice photography, good job.
