I took this on an overcast day at some eagle refuge center in either WI or MN. Someone was holding the bird and I took a picture, then I zoomed in and tried to edit it a litte. I added B&W, sharpened, film grain[made to look old], and brightened. In the comments I added one without b&w or film grain. Which do you like better and why?

This is really good! I like the fact you made it look older, because it reminds me of a picture that could be in a book or report. I can't really critique it, but I wanted to let you know that I thought this was a very nice looking picture.

Hmm...that's a hard choice really. I really like the top one because it seriously looks like it could've been from a long time ago when camreas were first developed, but the bottom one has great coloring. I'd say they're both very nice, I can't decide

First of all the shot is amazing. From the photos you have posted so far I think that you don't have much problem with composing photos. Also the detail in the eye and the light there is something I always think is important in animal photos. Without the light there, they just don't seem alive or jump off the page, so good job on that. What I would say about the Black and White one is that it isn't very black and white. It was quite grey, there isn't much contrast. I'm think that maybe you used grey scale? Which tends to just turn everything grey and it really dulls down your photo. I think you need more contrast in this to make it work properly. There needs to be definite blacks and definite whites.
I think it will be easier if I just showed you
So here instead of using grey scale I went into a black and white function, which allows me to choose how I do the contrast so that it doesn't look so washed out. Of course I don't know how good a photo editing piece of software that you have. (Also sorry it is a bit pixelated but I just got it off this thread) I hope you don't mind me doing it ^^
I also changed the levels on the original colour photo because that was slightly washed out too.
Other than that I thought it was a really good shot. Animals are tricky to take photos of.
I hope you post more soon! x

Thanks beckiw! Actually it was in Black and White, i guess I just have a pretty bad photo editing software lol. I really like what you did with the picture but unfortunitely my computer has very limited options
The picture is very cool, and I do like the colored version better of your two.
I do agree, however, that the black and white that becklw posted is better then the colored version. Try a program that is free but useful, like Picnik which is a free browser based photo editor with no downloading required. I used it for photo editing and it works very well. So try that out if your computer can't handle programs such as Adobe or Photoshop(which also cost money).
Now, the picture is very nice. The black and white makes it look like a drawing, and not a photo while the colored does look like a photo. So I guess it depends on if your going for a "this is a photo" feel or not. Good job! :].
I have to say, I LOVE birds of prey. You are so lucky to see a bald eagle in the flesh. This is a gorgeous bird. You got the angle spot on, to catch that sharp look in his eye. Wonderful The only critisism I have for you is the grainy effect on the photo. I think it takes away from the beauty of it. Perhaps you could sharpen it up slightly.
Otherwise, I loved this. Nice work there.

Nice, but it seems flat..ish, maybe you should have taken it from another angle. I like Beck's version the most, then second would probably be the first one.
I love birds, oh, and turtles. Two of my favorite animals! Nice pictures.
