Digibook

Before you begin reading this, know that this storybook is closed already. Sorry.

SLOTS:

Tamers of the Convicts: (Human Roles & Partner Digimon)
1. Insomnia (Impmon)
2. Firearris (Renamon)
3. Jagged (Elecmon)
4. Chibibo (Candlemon)

Official Tamers: (Human Roles & Partner Digimon [begin in the Digital World])
1. Lumi (Agumon [x-gene])
2. Vulcan (Dracmon)
3. Octave (Dorumon)
4. Nutty (Veemon)

Premise:

Phase One
Spoiler! :
In Digibook, you will play the role of either a Tamer of a Convict Digimon, or an Official Tamer. Our story begins on the grounds that several Vigilante Digimon have been captured and placed in a Prison in Torrent City in the Digital World; their crimes are unstated in the beginning. After quite some time of rotting away in the prison, the group of Digimon escaped and fled to the Real World (Analog World) where they sought refuge. However, they had business of their own in the real world besides seeking shelter from the officials. The fugitive Digimon found their refuge in a group of high school students.

After the prison break, the Official Tamers were called into the office of the ruler of Torrent City and given the orders to track down the fugitives and bring them back at all costs. Immediately, the official tamers took their partner Digimon and entered the real world in search of their bounty.

As a string of disasters wrack the real-world city of Miami, Florida, both the Tamers of the Convicts and the Official Tamers seek out the disruptive Digimon; the officials believe that the fugitives are to blame, and have a personal bounty out on their heads. After the two meet up against a common enemy, a crossroads is found.

We will begin Digibook just before the convict Digimon escape the prison.

Phase Two
Spoiler! :
After spending just a week in the real world, the Tamers (all of them) enter the Digiworld to find something amiss in the air. During an attack from a trio of disgruntled Vegimon, Strabimon and the official Digimon find that they are still incapable of Digivolution, even though they are in the Digiworld once again. A meeting with the leader of Torrent City reveals a clue as to the core of the issue: mysterious lights and sounds emanating from Meteormon's crater. Rio, the leader of the official tamers, strikes a deal with the tamers of the convicts: help them out and have all charges dropped from their names.

The crew agrees, and the whole group sets out to investigate the oddities. They traverse the Gear Savannah, encountering several families of Digimon acting strangely. Once they arrive at the crater, they discover shards of black material jutting out of the walls. Their investigation leads them into a cavernous maze beneath the crater, wherein they find Meteormon, the Digimon responsible for the crash. After a battle, Meteormon explains what brought him to the terra of the Digiworld. Meteormon also hands over a small device he had found earlier in one of his tunnels, and the crew takes it back to Leomon, who is baffled by the device. He suggests checking with the leader of Mecha City to the North.

Phase Three
Spoiler! :
Heading north, the crew passes through the Alto Woods, finding themselves in the midst of a festival in the Tree-Top Village. Initially deciding to pass on through, the crew gets sidetracked when they find a Palmon crying in the outskirts of town. What they find nabs their attention: no Digimon in the tree-top village can Digivolve, either. The crew investigates in the heart of the Alto Woods only to find another mysterious black device, guarded by a discolored Snimon. The crew fights Snimon and ends up on the losing end, only to have a last-minute rescue by a mysterious beam of light from above. As Snimon deteriorates, Emma finds a white feather on the ground. The crew gathers the new black device and returns to the Village just in time for the festival. They stay the night in the inn and set off the next morning into the Dead Forest.

On the edge of the dead trees, Tommy overhears two Digimon discussing a plan together. They catch him and threaten to kill the rookie tamer unless he keeps his mouth shut about what he had seen and heard. He swears to keep quiet, and does just that.

Upon reaching Mecha City, the tamers decide to take some time off while the leader of the city, Andromon, examines the black devices. They get roped into a tournament being held in the city plaza. Elecmon wins the battle and is awarded the Heat Data. Rio gets a call from Andromon, and the crew reunites with their new friend as he explains what he has discovered: someone has been intentionally suppressing Digivolution. Andromon admits that he contacted friends across the continent found that others have been experiencing similar difficulties. Andromon gives Rio a message for Leomon and sends them back towards Torrent City.

Phase Four
Spoiler! :
A heavy storm on the path to Torrent City diverts the tamers to the eastern mountain range to stay safe. As they near the foot of Mt. Draco, Renamon warns them that she senses something wrong in the air. Shortly after, they are attacked under the cloak of night by a mysterious flying Digimon. The rookies fire into the dark, but to no avail. It is only when Elecmon utilizes the Heat Data and Digivolves that they gain the upper hand. After the battle, it begins to rain; most of the crew seek shelter while Jean wanders outside the caves, feeling like she was missing something. She ventures a tad too far from the caves and picks up an enigmatic yellow sphere of data. Hearing growls, she alerts Candlemon and begins to rush back to the caves only to be cut off by a Golemon with glowing red eyes.

Candlemon hops into action to protect Jean and Digivolves using the power of the yellow sphere (Trick Data). Wizardmon makes quick work of Golemon and the two return to the others safely.

Once back in Torrent City, the kids are denied audience with Leomon, as he is in counsel with a foreign advisor regarding the Digivolution issues. A messenger arrives, summoning only Rio and Strabimon into the meeting. Rio returns a while later with eight particular Digivices, each one designed for its respective pair. A brief explanation from Rio suggests that the Digivices are capable of shattering the power of the mechanisms long enough to execute a battle, but are limited to certain time frames of usage. The Digivices, he claims, may also contain particular chain-altering data if applied. Rio also issues the group an official order from Leomon: to seek out and retrieve all of the black mechanisms across the continent.

Rules:

1. As it is generally understood that successful storybooks keep their posting regular, I’d like to ask that two posts be made per week (at least). This amount is low because I understand busy schedules and such. Trust me; the story will live on even if this rule is bent.

2. All YWS rules apply.

3. No god-modding and no Mary-Sues.

4. All posts must be written in third person and past tense.

5. No one person may possess two lead roles.

6. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns, or if you need to drop out/can’t post for an extended period of time. I promise that I won’t bite.

7. Each post must be at least 500 words.

8. Please use common sense when regarding things such as swearing and romance. This is Digimon, people.

Special Mechanics:
Spoiler! :
Tech Drives: Much like in the Tamers season of Digimon, tamers may come across small chips (Tech Drives) in the Digiworld that can be read by the Digivice (once you have one) to program a series of attacks to your Digimon partner that they wouldn't normally be capable of accessing. These chips come in three forms: Red (data), Blue (vaccine), and Black (virus). If your Digimon partner does not align with the corresponding type-color, they cannot use the attack. Each Tech Drive expires after a custom amount of uses depending on the power of the attack.

Digital World Government: In the Digital World (at least on the Continent we will visit at first), the land is governed by Mega-Class Digimon in each city. The surrounding areas fall under their jurisdiction; however, recent uprisings have left several areas shunned from the governed public. Malicious Digimon have taken over several areas, and the Continent of Server is now unsafe in many areas. The City zones, however, are kept safe from malicious Digimon. No City has fallen under siege as of yet.

Liberating The Zones: As the aforementioned Malicious Digimon took over the zones, they spawned henchmen to do their bidding in their quest for domination. It is unclear at this point who dispatched the Digimon, but it is quite obvious that it stems from a single source. Later on in the storybook, you will be aiding in the Liberation of these areas, which will require the confrontation of many high-class Digimon. Be prepared!

Name: Cyril d'Épernon

Age: 19

Gender: Male

Role: Convict Tamer

Digimon Partner: Elecmon

Digivolution Line:
In-Training: Zurumon
Rookie: Elecmon
Champion: Flarerizamon
Ultimate: Triceramon

Appearance: Tall and lanky, pale-skinned and with thin glasses constantly sliding down his nose, Cyril looks like your average bookworm. The button-down shirt plus argyle sweater plus khakis clothes combination does little to dispel that image. He has messy dark hair just this side of too long, light grey eyes and an annoying tendency to try to loom over people.

Personality: Intelligent and observant, Cyril likes being right, and has spent most of his life lording it over the few people he could more or less call friends. It isn't that he deliberately drives people away; he's actually pretty laid-back, and won't go looking for conflict. He's just bad at backing down, and when he does so it's in a passive-aggressive manner that he might not even realize he's using but nevertheless does its job. He dislikes putting in personal effort, and will drag his feet when forced to do something he doesn't want to, not exactly protesting but lazing around, procrastinating, or sometimes going as far as sabotaging it in subtle ways if he knows he won't get caught. Add a tendency to play devil's advocate, trust issues and a deep-seated scepticism, and you've got Cyril. To give him his due, however, once he's realized it is really in his best interests to follow a given goal or when he's convinced--rationally, because emotions are icky--of something, then he will actually get in gear for once, and finally remember that he's capable of more than just snide comments from the sidelines.

Digimon's Personality: Elecmon is always moving, be it physically or emotionally. At baseline playful and smug, he can go from scowl to grin in very short spans of time--not exactly mood swings, but more from just reacting to the moments, one after the other. He has his moments of brooding, but they too are quickly lost, and he bounces back from bad times with stubborn perseverance. He's got something of a hero complex, and a very black-and-white sense of justice that's gotten him in trouble more than once.

Special Skills/Weaknesses: Cyril has a surprisingly mean right hook, and a vaguely unsettling capacity for detachment. In case of overwhelming stress, he just shuts down emotionally and operates on automatic (which some people may argue isn't that different from his usual behaviour). He's a wealth of obscure knowledge, more or less useless depending on the situation, but you never know when knowing the temperature at which rock melts could come in handy.

Other: Elecmon has a sweet tooth?

While You're Waiting.

Name: Rio Nash

Age: 19

Gender: Male

Role: Leader of the Official Tamers

Digimon Partner: Agumon

Digivolution Line:
In-Training: Koromon
Rookie: Agumon (X-Antibody)
Champion: GeoGreymon (just called Greymon)
Ultimate: RizeGreymon

Appearance: Rio is slender and of average height, just rising to an even six feet tall. He has well-tanned skin and black hair with dark, winter-oak eyes and a smile like a wolf. His hair is short and controllably spiky. He wears black jeans and a blue sleeveless shirt covered by a long-sleeve black jacket. He wears fingerless leather gloves for riding and has dog tags around his neck, symbolic of his three friends who have died in the course of battle.

Personality: Rio is typically one to believe that he can save the world all on his own. That's not to say that he doesn't value his team--he does; however, there are more times than not that he feels sheer responsibility on his shoulders as the savior of all that is good. Aside from justice, Rio is level-headed and reserved, typically making the best decisions to benefit everyone equally. A true leader through and through. He doesn't hesitate to say what needs to be said, and will not go out of his way to spare feelings if the situation calls for abruptness. Given his stringent upbringing in the Digital World, he is inclined to put duty before anything, especially fun. While he is socially justified and reserved to himself, Rio quietly thirsts for power. This thirst is fueled by his fiery passion for victory and justification. In a way, he believes that it may bring about resolution to his lack of a family. Rio is legendary among the official tamers as being the youngest official to ever reach the Ultimate level with their Digimon partner. He takes great pride in his partner, Agumon, and refuses to back down from any challenge unless defeated.

As a person, Rio is charismatic and appealing, always trying to stay in a healthy medium for all of his emotions. He considers it part of being a decent leader, and he lives by it.

Digimon's Personality: Agumon is a fierce competitor. He keeps his head in the game whenever on a job or tracking down a criminal, but turns off the seriousness as soon as the job is over. Outside of fighting and working, Agumon is playful and sweet, though sometimes lacking in the ability to piece things together. What he lacks in intuition and thinking skills, he makes up in sheer, brute force and speed.

Special Skills/Weaknesses: Once he gets the ability to Digivolve Agumon, Rio has no problem mastering powers and new levels of energy in combat. However, he thirsts for power. In the storyline of Digibook, could he possibly lose his morals for his search for power?

Other: That's...basically him.

(editing)

Name: Tommy Bronson

Age: 18

Gender: Male

Role: Convict Digimon Tamer

Digimon Partner: Impmon

Digivolution Line:
In-Training: Yaamon
Rookie: Impmon
Champion: Devimon
Ultimate: NeoDevimon

Appearance: Tommy is tall and of average weight. He has brown eyes and short blond hair, usually hanging limp in his eyes after he forgets to wash it. He appears to be shorter than he is because he slumps when standing. Tommy typically wears jeans that are a couple of sizes too big for him, held up by a belt. He also wears undone button-up shirts with a singlet underneath.

Personality: Tommy is confident in his ability to survive, although he is usually nervous about relying on other people. Despite this, he tries to be friendly, often making jokes to put others at ease. This sense of humour can often cause problems, though, as he will tease with almost no provocation. It is hard to anger him, though, as he is casual about almost everything. At the start of the storybook, he has almost no motivations, having just graduated high school. He can also be absentminded, and forget to consider other people because of this.

Digimon's Personality: Impmon is a fun-loving creature. He enjoys nothing more than causing problems for others and takes joy in the expression on their faces. He is often impulsive, and will stand his ground against any opponent, no matter what the odds of defeat are. Like Tommy, Impmon finds it difficult to rely on other people, especially if he doesn’t know them well. This can make team situations difficult. However, he can put this aside, especially if it is in his own best interests. In addition to causing problems, Impmon also likes the feeling of wielding power over others, and often listens to conversations he shouldn’t. Although he grows to be loyal to Tommy, he is not above manipulating him if he believes it is in their best interests.

Under construction.

Name: Emanuelle Golding

Age: 18

Gender: Female

Role: Official Tamer

Digimon Partner: Dorumon

Digivolution Line:
In-Training: Dorimon
Rookie: Dorumon
Champion: Dorugamon
Ultimate: DoruGreymon

Appearance:

Emanuelle has long snow blond hair and ice blue eyes, the epitome of the ice queen. She's small and waif-like, with pixie-like features and long dancer's legs. A glimmer of a cruel smirk is always playing on her lips, and it's difficult not to think of her as a malevolent fairy when you see her. She moves with confidence and grace, and is is quick to give people a condescending look. Prefers dresses and skirts to pants, and will often dress fashionably.

Personality:

She's nothing short of ambitious. Em has a cruel streak in her, and will stop at nothing to get what she wants. She's ruthless and has no moral qualms about lying, cheating, stealing, or deceiving people to achieve her goals. She's stubborn as could, and will never accept her own mistakes, even if it means dying. Quick-witted and intelligent, and wonderful at assessing the situation, in addition to being decisive. She isn't the type to dawdle and goes for what she wants. Ruthless efficiency is what she's known for, and she lives up to her reputation quite nicely. Her honeyed voice and pretty eyes lull people into a sense of false security, but those who know her will be wary. Quick to throw a temper tantrum when things don't go her way, and will lash out at everyone but her digimon. Em also tends to be overconfident, and this manifests itself in her tendency to pick on other people. However, she is a perfectionist, and is harder on herself than anyone else could ever be. Incredibly secretive and hides a somewhat murky past - she tells everyone a different story.

Digimon's Personality:

Dorumon is marked by eyes that pay attention to everything. Nothing escapes this digimon's watchful gaze. He cares about his tamer very much and always defends her when he finds someone badmouthing her. He understands her well, and is the only who seems to do so. They share a close bond, and he's pretty much the only one who can calm her down when she's having a breakdown. Dorumon rarely speaks and is content to watch everything with wise eyes. This digimon also has a tendency to be cynical, and his humor is derisive.

Special Skills/Weaknesses:

Em is a very good liar, and quite an actress. She's not averse to using her...assets (<.>) to convince men (and women) to give her what she wants. She's also agile and nimble, and amazing at stealth operations. She fails at scrimping by without any luxuries, though, and will not stop complaining if she has to get her hands dirty - if you want her to kill, you're going to have to provide her with gloves and a water-resistant suit that won't get dirtied by it.

Other:

Calling her Emma is a very good way to piss her off. Loves Dorumon very much.
"The moral of this story, is that if I cause a stranger to choke to death for my amusement, what do you think I’ll do to you if you don’t tell me who ordered you to kill Colosimo?“

Name:Joesph “Bird Boy” Larkin

Age: 18

Gender: Male

Digimon Partner: Labramon

Digivolution Line:
In-Training: Tsunomon
Rookie: Labramon
Champion: Sangloupmon
Ultimate: Matadormon

Appearance: Joe is short and skinny with almost no muscle on him. He tries to make up for this by making himself look tough, using a shaggy bear, a military style buzz-cut, and a tattoo of Phantomon on his forearm. He wears glasses, and dresses in plain single-color shirts, usually dark.

Personality: Joe has an inferiority complex, being very scrawny, and as a result he acts overly tough. He does not actively seek out conflict, but never backs down from a fight or challenge, and is very capable. And when there is conflict with others he has a tendency to egg it on and make it continue, taking pleasure in their rage. He is often a smart ass, and his good memory allows him to pull out about anything he needs to throw wood onto the fire. At the same time, though, he is not stubborn enough to let his rage get the best of him; he follow orders, and is somewhat open to other suggestions. He will, however, act as a devil’s advocate of the team; he shows the worst, or some cases best, way they can go, being the more emotionally distant and violent of the group.

Digimon's Personality: As Labramonhas a young mentality, still being in his cub form. He will laugh at small things, and fart humor in the middle of a conversation, and solemnly takes things seriously. Joe, though, often keeps him in line, and from putting his paws too far down his own mouth. When he Digivolves, he becomes more serious and mature, finally reaching adult form. Even in his ‘adult’ forms, though, he still tends to laugh at inappropriate times, and is still rather mellow. And while this calm and not-serious nature usually reads as bad, it is what keeps him from going feral, like most of his kind. With Joe, he is a classic yin-yang deal, with the two having to keep each other in line, and by the time of the story already found their middle ground. As champions and ultimate he vampire like, and when in that form for excessive amounts of times he requires blood to live, when he badly hurt or exhausted in these forms he will become feral, but it is often a seldom curse for him.

Special Skills/Weaknesses: Joe is an excellent fighter on his own, and tends to back-seat fight with Dracmon. He even keeps earpieces for the both of them to, so he can throw in tips and tricks. He also has a photographic memory, and uses this to great effect, taking advantage of small details most don't recall. But, because Joe’s emotion in battle is mainly aggression and rage, his evolutions have a tendency to backfire on him, or plain not work when he gets too mad.

Other:He’s a short, angry man, with a demented toddler at his side.

Name: Jean Simmons

Age: 19

Gender: Female

Role: Convict Tamer

Digimon Partner: Candlemon

Digivolution Line:
In-Training: DemiMeramon
Rookie: Candlemon
Champion: Wizardmon
Ultimate: Mistymon

Appearance: A typical street gang-type girl. Black hair falls from her head to her shoulders, including a fringe that obscures her hazel eyes. Her typical attire consists of a red tartan shirt, jeans and a pair of beaten-up sneakers.

Personality: Having been the bottom tier of a street gang, Jean is used to being pushed around, though she continues to try to prove herself and climb the ladder of authority. Once she has Candlemon's power at her side, she becomes a little power-hungry due to her former position at the bottom of the food chain. She will refuse any and all attempts at authority over her as she strives for number one. She'll willingly team up with someone if it helps her to survive or get stronger.

Digimon's Personality: Candlemon is quite cowardly. He'll instantly hide behind Jean or whoever is available when a threat reveals itself, but will fight when there's no other option. Initially he's only out for personal gain, namely to absorb as much data as possible to become stronger, and to that end teams up with Jean in a mutual partnership to further both their ambitions.

As Wizardmon he overcomes his cowardice due to the immense power his Wizardmon form offers, becoming quite arrogant in the process. He retains the motives and goals of Candlemon at the time.

It's not until he and Jean shed their selfish ways that he is able to become the noble Mistymon. He still has flashes of his former faults, such as occasionally trying to charge money for defeating villains, but is still selfless enough that he will throw himself in front of an ally to take an attack for them.

She has jaw-length layered straight hair in an auburn colour. She has almond-shaped eyes in a gold/brown/amber colour as well. Lottie typically wears jeans and oversized T-shirts along with boots.

Personality: Lottie is strong-willed and typically will act on her own. She rarely second-guesses her choices and is often over-confident and has a large ego. She'll find faults in other people to make herself feel more confident and better about something. Although she is typically confident, she can be somewhat shy when it comes to strangers. Name: Zoey Tennat

Age: 17

Gender: Female

Role: Official Tamer

Digimon Partner: Veemon

Digivolution Line:
In-Training:DemiVeemon
Rookie: Veemon
Champion: ExVeemon
Ultimate: Paildramon

Appearance: Short and athletic, she is always seen in sensible clothes, usually jeans and a loose shirt. Her hair is cropped to a shortish style and stands up at odd angles, no matter what she tries to do with it. She has large eyes of a clear green which betray her emotions, whether it be joy, frustration or anger. She has a stubborn chin and an even more stubborn set to her jaw, and folds her arms when she is angry. She is not often clean, as she is always wrestling with veemon or exploring someplace dirty.

Personality: Zoey is as honest as they come. She’s outspoken and opinionated, and likes to tell people why they are wrong. She is prone to bouts of anger, a dark mood that will send her on a rampage.
She’s never been the sort for skirts, intrigue or politics, preferring to solve her problems with a sharp word or an all out fight, and has been dubbed a troublemaker her whole life. This upsets her because she has a firm sense of justice; it’s just that she usually delivered it with some kind of force. She was the kid who would punch the bully for beating up someone younger than them.
Being easy to read has its advantages, however, as she has an easy and personable way with others, even those who scold her admire her honesty.
Zoey loves to explore and will, in her free time, be found somewhere dirty and probably dangerous.

Digimon's Personality: Veemon is Zoey’s best friend and accomplice. He’s always on the go, encouraging Zoey to climb harder, run further, and usually beating her at it to sit at the top of the cliff and throw jibes at his partner. However, his shared sense of justice with Zoey makes them a formidable force to be reckoned with, as if the pair think you have done wrong, they will have no problems telling you about it. Otherwise, however, Veemon is almost always happy and optimistic, dragging Zoey out of any black moods she may fall into.

Special Skills/Weaknesses:

Other:

Rio Nash

“We’re gonna be late, Rio.” Agumon’s high-tenor voice called out from a few rooms away. Mr. Hero, Rio, stood hunched over the white-washed sink in the bathroom, his face doused in water and his shirt hanging over his shoulder. Cold hands, they swept up a pool of water an splashed the drops against his skin, relieving the groggy tug between his eyelids. He grumbled incoherently and shook his head wildly, as unrestrained and instinctive as a feral beast. When he finally opened his eyes, Agumon stopped calling him and he could drown in silence, in that perfect dream of his. It was there, he saw, in his reflection’s eyes—that day in the Flash Desert.

Probably his proudest moment as a tamer as he stood beside Garris and clenched his fist as Greymon blasted against a trio of Sandiramon. Rio’s teeth were gritted together, and Garris was trying to revive his downed partner. The Sandiramon had Greymon by the neck and were ready to strike him down when Rio’s digivice began beeping wildly. In a wild flash of light, the tables turned on the snakes, and a RizeGreymon stood over them, his enormous cannon-arm aimed at their heads that lie together on the dunes. One hissed before a napalm blasted them apart, leaving only the sounds of falling sand and data being absorbed to break the silence of Rio’s pride.

And when Rio remembered that dream, he could do anything. He shook his hands dry and pulled on the remainder of his uniform, checking his teeth in the mirror before ambling through the apartment he shared with a fellow tamer. Agumon was standing in the door, juggling a piece of fruit. “What is that thing?” Rio asked, his eyebrows adjusting curiously.

“Dracmon gave it to me,” he said, and Rio grabbed the purple blob of fruit, chucking it to the nearest open window. The second it hit fresh air, the fruit burst into a plume of slime and seeds.

“...good point,” Agumon noted, and handed Rio his DigiGear. Rio flipped the screen open to reveal the symbol of Torrent City’s Officials—the angular face of a lion.

“Access Nash,” Rio said, pulling on a boot with one hand while balancing on one foot.

“Access granted,” the device droned, and beeped as it flashed a menu onto the screen. Rio pressed his foot down into his boot and pulled up his assignment from “The Mon”. As he read, Agumon wandered into the next room—the kitchen—and looked around for another piece of fruit.

“Sentry duty? Again?” Rio groaned and slid his back down the wall, dropping pitifully to the ground, dignified with his untied boots and messy hair.

“You don’t hear me complaining,” Agumon quipped, biting into a banana-shaped orange. “You’re not the one who has to fight those high-level baddies in the far sectors.”

Rio nodded. “You’re right, Agumon.” He closed his terminal and tied up his shoes, sighing before standing up. He smirked, catching the dino out of the corner of his eye. “I forgot you’re an overgrown yellow chicken.” Rio began to laugh, but stopped as he was blind-sided by a blue mango. When his butt hit the floor, he looked up to see Agumon standing in the kitchen, tossing another fruity sphere up and down in his claw.

“What’s that, Rio?” Agumon laughed and took down the mango in one bite.

“Easy, pal,” Rio cautioned, standing back up. “I don’t want to have to run for groceries again this week.” He grabbed his keys and his terminal off the floor and opened the door. “Let’s roll.”

--- ---

The city was as beautiful as ever. Rio took a drink from his water bottle and watched the other three-dozen people board the sky tram. As the doors closed, a dark-skinned Gatomon nudged Rio and Agumon back against the windows, making room for her tail. Rio sighed and peered out the crystalline window beside him, watching the white-marble streets below. He didn’t really get it, how a city this spectacular could have been built years ago and still maintain its sheen. Every inch of sidewalk, every building—all were a beautiful pearl white. The roads were a dark blue, and everything was arranged to match. The surrounding areas heralded Torrent City as the pearl of the continent; it was dazzling to anyone new or old to its awesomeness.

“Five bits say that we’ll end up at the gates again,” Agumon looked up to Rio, making his challenge-eyes. Rio thought about it, but shook his head. “We’ll probably end up at the prison with Joe and Emma.”

Agumon sighed and watched the streets zooming by below. “I feel bad for them,” he said. “They’ve been on the skeleton shift for weeks now.” He looked back up to Rio. “You’d think they’d give them a break.”

Rio nodded and took another drink of water. “I don’t think Emma minds it that much.”

Agumon tilted his head to the side. “Why wouldn’t she?”

“She’s always been a do-it-until-it’s-done girl, yeah?” Rio shrugged.

Agumon nodded. “Dracmon surprises me, though.” The yellow dino looked up at Rio, who lifted an eyebrow. “He’s fidgety.”

“And don’t forget the exploding fruit.”

“Right,” Agumon nodded.

Joe Larkin

“Up and atim!” Joe called, banging a glowing night-stick against one of the cages. A Candlemon growled at the call, but his flame burned bright as day. “Good Candlemon, now get up or I’ll hang you like a chandelier.”

“You talk a lot of game,” one of the prisoners called. “But you stinking humans just hide behind your Digimon. Show some bone and fight us!” A bratty little Impmon hung on his cage, pounding at his chest.

Sangloupmon emerged from the shadows, right against the cage. “Pipe down you mut, or I’ll go feral on your ass.” Blades began to emerge from his leg cuffs, ready to fire. “I’ve been wanting some Impmon blood.” The devil digimon dropped off his cage and rolled back into bed.

“Like you have the guts,” it said with a smirk. “But I’m not in the mood for this.”Sandloupmon gave a growl and sent a little blade right at Impmon, who jumped to the ceiling. With a little chuckle the wolf faded back into the shadows and reappeared next to Joe.

“You okay man?” Joe whispered.

“It’s these nights, Haven’t gotten a good rest in the last three days.” Joe nodded, it had been rather high-strung at the prison lately. “Hard to keep down my instincts, and I really do need some fresh blood in me, getting dizzy.”

“Go to the nurse, she can probably get you something to hold you over, and tell Emma to get her ass down here.” the wolf nodded and ran out, leaving Joe alone. Trying to look tough, the short guard puffed out his chest and held his weapon high.

Snickers echoed from a few cages, and Joe’s anger began to rise a bit. “If they don’t get some fresh blood in here soon...”

“You won’t do shit, Joe,” Emma smiled and waved. “Thanks for letting me take the nap, so refreshed.”

“Yeah, good for you,” Joe rolled his eyes.

“Don’t we have to take them out to the yard today?”

“Not until the rest come, two Champions can’t hold a DemiMeramon to these guys,” Joe looked into a cage, two Wormon were brawling in their cell, somehow the little things lookrf scary.

“Mhmm, hope we get some muscle,” Joe wandered over to the control room, where the many switched to the cells laid. “Get in here, we might as well them them wear themselves out before the rest get here. Emma nodded and followed suit, Dorugamon following right behind.

“Locked,” Emma said. Joe flipped a switch and the bars slide away into the walls seamlessly and almost gracefully.

“Okay, I’ve never even seen a janitor, how do they do that?” Emma just shrugged as a responce and sat down in her chair. “Wake me when they get here.”

Joe just sighed, to tired to do much of anything, and sat done as well. “Dorugamon, think you can watch this on your own?”

“Not like you two do anything important,” he stated, Joe just smiled and passed out.

Zoey Tannet
Zoey shoved her partner playfully. Veemon shoved back, pushing her onto one foot, arms pinwheeling for balance. “Vee, not so hard!”
“Toughen up, princess. Or those prisoners will eat you all up.”
Zoey laughed, causing others on the train platform to look at her curiously. She didn’t notice, and straightened up to her full, and unimpressive, five foot four inch height. “They couldn’t beat me up if they tried.”
Veemon snickered, and didn’t bother to answer. Zoey sighed and prodded her partner. “We want this train.”

The train wasn’t nearly as crowded as the others, and ran a different route, bypassing the offices and the shopping centres to make its way to the prison. Zoey was on guard duty for the third time that week, and Veemon had already had to ‘rescue’ her twice. If she was thinking logically, it wouldn’t sting like it did. Veemon was usually in champion mode at the time, and therefore much larger than she was, and the prisoners were sometimes bigger than Exveemon. Logically, there was no way Zoey could defend herself without assistance, but it still stung. She stared moodily at the floor of the train, holding to a pole to keep herself from falling over with the swaying. Veemon prodded her, and gave her a cheeky grin.

“Cheer up, kid. I was just teasing.”
Zoey grunted, lazily taking a swipe at her partner. He ducked and giggled, and Zoey rolled her eyes, but couldn’t help but smile back. As much as Veemon loved to press her buttons, she couldn’t help but feel better when he bid her to. Zoey stretched and flopped into one of the seats nearby, and reclined, grinning at Veemon. “We couldn’t forget that fight wi-”
“Shut up.”
Zoey laughed, and rested her head against the window, feeling her teeth chatter with the wheels on the rails. Veemon climbed up onto the seat next to her and mimicked her, head back and ankles crossed. Together they were a picture of relaxation, and Zoey was humming a few bars of a wordless song to herself. She listened to the clacking of metal on metal, and let her mind wander. She didn’t mind guard duty so much, though the others often complained about it. The digimon behind bars were usually there for a reason, so she felt no real pity for them, and they sure as hell didn’t show much mercy towards the guards.

Zoey was interrupted from her thoughts as the the clacking was overridden by a screech, building from a low, insistent whine to a disconcerting screech as the train pulled up to the next station. She didn’t bother to open her eyes as the nearby door opened, and footsteps starting filing past her. A low thud from across from them made her twitch slightly, but she relaxed, realising it was just someone sitting down heavily. She yawned and settled back down.

“Good sleep?”
Zoey cracked open an eye as Veemon sat up, and her gaze landed on the boy sitting across from her. “Oh. Rio.”
“Hey. Gaurd duty again?”
“Yup. Me and Veemon are gonna see who is the first to crack under pressure.”
Veemon snorted. “What pressure do you suffer? I do all the fighting.”
“Oh shut up.” Zoey rolled her eyes again. “I do plenty.”
Veemon laughed.
The boy took a water bottle from his side and took a sip, looking off, down the train car. “Are you at the wall?”
“The prison,” Zoey sighed, and nudged Veemon off of her lap, where he had slumped.
It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.

Emmanuelle Golding

Icy eyes travelled down the length of the hallway before her, and a sigh silenced the convict digimon. Attention was focused on her and her alone, and this gave her a warm feeling in the pit of her stomach.

Beside her, Dorumon vigilantly watched the convicts. Em crossed her legs and twirled a strand of almost-white hair around her finger. Manicured nails gleamed under the harsh prison lights. Her attention flicked to the gangly loser beside her, and she considered elbowing him awake just to keep her company. How dare the bastard sleep and leave her to watch all these monsters alone?

Em reached over to wake the boy up. “There’s absolutely nothing to do in this shithole-“

Ew. Was that idiot drooling? Em grimaced. Yes, yes he was. Now there was a legitimate excuse to wake him up. “Joe, gross, wake up –“

The pitter-patter of sneakers on the ground cut her off, and Em paused, her hand dropping to her side again. Was that Rio? Finally, someone decent had come to keep her company. It was about damn time, too. She thought she’d die of boredom. Em stretched out, and a small pout appeared on her lips. Rio was going to feel guilty about coming late. She would make sure of it.

As the roguish boy rounded the corner, a small smile on his face and a whistle playing from his lips, Em’s eyes lit up, just by a bit.

“Rio,” she called in a sing-song voice, completely ignoring Agumon waving at Dorumon. Dorumon acknowledged the other digimon’s greeting with a small nod of his own before returning his watchful gaze to the imprisoned digimon. “Where’ve you been? You’re already late, and Joe and I are tired –“ Em’s face fell when she saw the garbage trailing behind Rio. Disgusting. Her upper lip curled into a smirk, and folded her arms over her chest as she uncrossed her legs, stretching them out so Rio would admire them.

Oh Zoey. She always made it so easy for Em to pick on her. Always asking for it by wearing those ratty jeans and grubby sneakers along with an oversized shirt. Such a shame. She must want Em’s attention. “You forgot to leave your trash on the train, Rio,” Em pointed out, nodding at Zoey.

Joe stirred, and he opened an eye. “Oh drama.” He yawned and rubbed an eye with his knuckles. “Yipee.”

“Nice to see you too, bitch,” Zoey greeted. “I bet your parents loved you as a kid.” Veemon snickered.

Em’s glare came sharp and quick. She stood up, her expression smug. Normally she stood shorter than Zoey, but with her stilettos she could match the other girl’s height, and this gave her confidence. She swaggered up to the other girl, stopping at an arm’s length away from Zoey. Veemon bristled, and Dorumon stood beside his tamer, solemn and watchful as ever.

“Now now, let’s not resort to talking about parents. I’m sure you’d love to tell me about how your parents never provided for you and beat you and shit, and I’m sure you want to hear about mine expecting me to grow up to be a ballet dancer, but honestly, I don’t give a damn about your abused childhood –“

“Don’t talk about them –“

Before Zoey could throw a punch, a particularly tall Rio had gotten in between the two girls, each arm circling a girl’s shoulder. “You know I was outside, and I couldn’t help but notice the city was beautiful today.”

“If you’re going to try and change the topic, might as well make it sound like you actually give a damn about what you’re talking about,” Em muttered.

“Wait. Your parents wanted you to be a ballerina? I thought you said your dad drank a lot and your mother gambled, and that child services took you away from them and plunked you down with a couple with like seven kids,” Joe blurted out.

Rio sighed. “She told me her parents died in a car crash and her grandparents took care of her. I also heard her tell the boss her mother died of leukemia and her dad raised her alone. She’s probably told fifty thousand stories by now.”

“Probably what she told Joe, except child services never came. It’s no wonder she’s the way she is,” Veemon said.

Em smiled. “Au contraire, I was born to a wealthy banker and his socialite of a wife –“

“Oh, yeah, you’d know Zoey. You came from the same, right?” Joe butted in, obviously trying to cash in on the argument.

“Heads up!”

And a ball of slime and seeds splattered onto the front of Em’s outfit, staining her black skirt blue and causing her white shirt to stick to her skin.

Her shriek rang throughout the cells loud and clear, high-pitched and almost murderous. “I’m going to kill you!”

Once more, she found herself enveloped in Rio’s bear hug, and he grunted as she flailed against him, trying to reach for Labramon even as Dorumon lunged for the former. Zoey laughed at Em, pointing and taunting the blond as if the blond was the only one whose clothes got messy thanks to the exploding fruit.

“Guys, stop fighting!” Rio yelled.

So the shift began, just like it would any other day.
"The moral of this story, is that if I cause a stranger to choke to death for my amusement, what do you think I’ll do to you if you don’t tell me who ordered you to kill Colosimo?“

Rio Nash

“I swear, the boss would have a field day if he heard about this.” Rio let go of Em, cocking his eyebrows to check for compliance. The girl smirked and crossed her arms, leaning back against the steel wall behind them. Rio sighed and put a hand to the back of his neck, giving a playful grin. “After all, guys,” he laughed. “We’re on duty right now.” Rio watched their faces, tilting his head to the side as he watched Joe...Was he? Yep, already asleep again.

Rio looked at his two girls again and gave a prize-winning smile, praying that it would ease some tension. “So!” Rio clasped his hands together, looking towards the cell blocks. There were seven in the room, and that room was just one of ten in the prison. He reached into his back pocket and pulled his black terminal out, flipping through pages of data until he reached his briefing page. The scruffy boy sat back in a metal chair, propping his boots up on the desk in front of Joe, filming through the info. “Have any of you guys heard this yet?”

“No,” Em groaned. “The boss wouldn’t let us see it.” With a grin, she inched closer to Rio, leaning over his shoulder to read the screen. Her hands pressed down to his strong build and she sighed, mouthing the words to herself. “That’s not even the present convict page, dummy.” She pulled herself around to another chair and sat down beside Rio, grabbing his terminal. Filming through the pages, she brought up the newest feed. “There.”

Rio took the device back into his hands and glanced back towards the convicts, most of which were asleep. A faint orange glow radiated from the furthest cell block. “That’s Candlemon? Huh.” Rio grinned and stood up, walking towards the orange light. “So these four, the ones in the Bronze-Class.” Rio smirked. “Says these guys were caught breaking into the Evolution Lab in Digital City.” He leaned back against one of the cell bars, reading to himself.

Joe slowly roused from his nap and looked at Rio with a DERP face. “Evolution lab?” He wiped drool from his mouth with his right hand and stretched a bit, warranting a good distance from Em. Zoey walked up to Rio, standing beside him to read.

“It doesn’t even say they stole or did anything, though.”

“Weird, right?” Rio hummed, scrolling further down. “Nope. Nothing.”

“I swear we were set up,” a scruffy voice came from behind Rio. He turned, seeing a wildly-colored Elecmon on the ground. His face was twisted into a bestial scowl.

Rio grinned and nodded. “Everyone in here is set up, Elecmon.” He smirked and nodded towards the cell across from the Renamon. “That ToyAgumon was framed for murdering an official tamer.”

Zoey nodded and chuckled lightly. “He was captured while trying to pull a Toy Flame from the tamer’s throat.”

Rio laughed and walked back to the head of the cell hall with Zoey, looking at Em and Joe. “So I guess you two are heading out soon? Or what?”

Em shook her head, keeping her death-gaze locked on Zoey. “We don’t get relieved from our post until their trial.”

“She means execution,” Joe said, standing up and stretching again. He yawned and looked down to Dracmon, who was trying to explain something about fruit to Agumon. He grabbed Rio by the shoulder and looked at the two girls, grinning. “We’ve been rotting in here for nearly two days, Rio.”

“Whatcha got in mind, pal?” Rio withdrew a bit at the smell of Joe’s breath. Ironically, it smelled like garlic. Lots of garlic.

“We’re gonna battle, Rio.” He nodded and motioned towards the door. “Outside, of course.” Rio thought for a moment, but grinned.

“Alright, then. Agumon?” The yellow dino perked his head up from over the desk, nodding with a grin.

“Dracmon?” The weird little vampire hopped up, floating a bit over the ground. The eyes on its hands were narrow, determined.

-- -- --

The sun was brighter than ever in Rio’s eyes; he was sure that Joe had set it up that way for some reason, thinking he would have an advantage. They had picked a spot just outside of the jail, in a patch of cleared grass away from the buildings and trees. The digital oaks that did stand around them were tall and mighty, probably capable of fighting themselves. Rio grinned and squinted his eyes, watching Dracmon just hovering menacingly in front of Agumon.

“Ready, Rio?” Joe called out. Zoey and Em were spectating from very opposite ends of the clearing, glaring at each other, and not the battle. Rio nodded across to Joe and crossed his arms, ready for action. In his right hand was his Digivice, energized and ready to go. Before Joe called the battle, Dracmon began moving about, analyzing Agumon with his analog eyes.

“Agumon, let’s get started with some heat.”

Joe Larkin

“Let’s go Greymon!” Agumon called, Rio nodded with a smile and his Digivice laminated birghtly. Agumon was overcome with a brightlight, and his body began to expand, his color changing.

“Not so fast, Buddy boy,” Labramon said with a smile, as he slammed his teeth against Agumon’s calf. The Agumon cried out in pain, shrinking back to normal size in an instant.

“Gah! No fair man!” Agumon yelled, but grinned and let out a high pitched bark. The yelp rang in Agumon’s ears, over taking his reflexes, making him a wobbling mess.

“Agumon, look away!” Rio yelled, but it didn’t seem to reach Agumon, he just stared blankly at the air.

“Hit yourself,” Labramon teased, sending off a few kicks, windmilling the dino’s arms into his own head.

“Digivolution, activate!” Joe called, gripping his Digivice. Labramon glowed this time, his body being over took by several pieces of purple armor. His body crippled into a crawl, his arms and legs forming into more animal like structures. Fur burst jumped in length, his face becoming sharper, and his ears were covered by metal. “Sangloupmon!” he roared.

Agumon blinked dizzily, the pulses now gone from sight. Taking advantage of this, Sangloupmon charged in, slashing at Agumon’s oversized head with all of his paws, and then dug another chomp into his calf.

“Pepper Breath!” Agumon called, and sent a blast of fire right into the wolf’s snout.

“So, Agumon,” Sangloupmon asked as he circled the dino. “You think you can take on a champion? Can you do it?”

“I will do it, Do-Do head,” Agumon said. Sangloupmon smiled, as if holding back laughter, before finally bursting out.

“You said Do Do!” Sangloupmon laughed, rolling onto his back for a second. With this small window Agumon fired a pepper breath into the wolf’s eyes, sending it rolling back against the ground, blinded. “Agh, no fair cheater!”

“Rio, let’s do it!” Agumon called, again over taken in a bright light. His body quickly expanded, each body part nearly quadrupling in size. His body charged into a darker orange, and his head capped itself with a large brown helmet, with red tips. “Greymon!” he roared and charged forward.

Sangloupmon quickly rolled out of the way of the first headbutt, landing into the dinosaur’s shadow. “Too bad for you! Black Mind!” the wolf cried, before his data scrambled itself into little pixels, each slipping into the shadow of the dinosaur.

“Where the heck did he go?” Greymon shouted, stomping at the ground. Joe just smiled and waited. Sangloupmon would be fine in the shadows, but every second he drained some energy, that be fine if he was at normal strength, and just walking around, but in a battle that bit of energy was needed. The wolf digimon slowly backed away fro Greymon, who was still staring randomly around the field. In the shadow Sangloupmon was completely invisible, but once he left he was partly visible, a wolf sized, oval shadow that moved. Unfortunately he was also bound to a circle, and the boundaries were impossible to cross, and the size of the shadow he entered was the radius, with the digimon the center of it.

“Greymon, try launching a Nova blaster into the air,” Rio tipped in. The Digimon nodded, and did just that. The fire ball went a bit in the air before scattering a spray of small flames around Greymon, who just shrugged them off.

In front of Greymon, Sangloupmon briefly popped out, the spray dazing his concentration. Greymon smirked and stomped down on that spot again, and Sangloupmon was thrown out of the ground.

“Nice,” Joe said. “Very nice, usually takes long for people to get him out.” Rio just nodded and let Greymon take over again.

Sangloupmon was slowly circling Greymon, looking for some kink in the behemoth's stance. Greymon was keeping ready, bracing himself for the wolf to attack, ready to counter with a Nova Blast of his own making. Neither charged, though, they were in a standstill, if either attacked the other would just turn it on them. Greymon finally broke stance, firing a volley of small flames at Sangloupmon, who just rolled backwards to dodge, still not attacking.

Greymon slammed his foot to the side, firing three blazing spheres in a row, making a wall of fire. Sangloupmon pounced back, phasing out, but just a second too late. The wolf tumbled back through the clearing, phasing off the flames as quickly as he could. With a snarl, he glared back to Greymon, who growled in a deep baritone.

“Um, hit the breaks guys,” Joe said and started running back to the prison, where a red light was flashing brightly. “We got bigger fish to fry.” That was lame, I am not proud of that Joe thought.
