Jaegar

Jaegar let the smile gain control and twist up at his lips as he read the notification. The urge to laugh a little bubbled into his mind, but he abruptly killed it. The pleasure in his eyes was evident - his two emeralds sparkling in blood-lust. Finally, they've set me loose. Jaegar thought as his tongue ran over his lips.

An image of him in lion form and caged made his thin smile ripple into a scowl.

"F*CK!" He screamed, digging fingernails into his hairline. His eyes flicked up, locking onto an object and picking up the photo-frame he threw it violently at the wall. His eyes grew dull once again as he regained himself.

With his anger free, he felt his emotions transform into energy and his body thrummed with excitement. He pulled on his usual coloured clothes - white. All the better to see the blood. He would be able to kill, finally. The bodies of the animals had been piling up around his neighbourhood and the town community was beginning to get a bit anxious.

Jaegar's smile somehow crept back onto his face as he walked out to the inn. His eyes immediately flew to the physiques of all the people inside and they locked on a few. They would be hard to kill, he decided as his smile grew, But how fun and illegal would it be to try...

As he sat at a table by himself he thought about all the different methods he could apply to the ones he had spotted. He stopped at one particular method, his eyes glued on one particular customer. She was sitting in a chair by herself bobbing to some unhearable music from her headphones. A growl scratched out of Jaegar's throat as he leapt out of his chair, "You!"

The girl, with movements too fast to be natural, slipped sideways from her seat and sat at the otherside of the booth, her gaze sharp and hawk-like. He took note of the way she held herself, her looks and her expression and Jaegar smiled, "Oh, yes. You would be so fun. I suspect you are not easy to take on. You are here for the party, aren't you?"

His eyes showed no amusement. They seemed dead. As lifeless as... Death itself. She found herself unusually amused, "Mopbucket fan, are we?"

Jaegar slid up in the chair opposite her and rested his chin upon his hand as he gazed blankly straight at her, "Oh, I would kill for him."

Terra said she had something to do here today. So I had to come with her, because Terra worried about me to much when I was alone. Call me crazy, but I could never remember what Terra looked like. I looked up at the sign on the front of the building. Bare-Lee Edible. Well, that sounded promising. I stepped into the building and quickly sat at one of the booths. I wondered what Terra needed to do here.

A man approached me, oh Terra wouldn't like this. Not one bit. He sat down across from me in the booth, I stiffened up and pressed my back against the seat, trying to keep him away from me.
"Hello there, you don't mind if I join you, do you?" He asked suavely.

Terra

"Yes, she does mind." I snapped getting up out of my seat, there was no way this creep was getting near my little sister. He stood up and looked at me with fake sincerity.
"I apologize, may I at least get your name?" He asked smoothly. I glared at him, my hand clutching the side of the table so I wouldn't leap at him and kill him.
"No, you can't now leave." I hissed, he scoffed and walked off in a hurry. Smart lad. I sat back down and went through the information for the next job. He looked like a creep. He could hurt my sister. Cause let's face it, they're all after my sister.

Ohh, I love what you guys did there with the location and date and stuff! Don't feel abliged, right now just the character name at the top of the post will do, but the location and time thing looks cool!

Lex

Location: Bare-Lee Edible
Date: October 9th 2010
Time: 8:10

'I'll have a Mild Red Tonic my good man,' Lex said as he sat in the bar area. The Bartender raised an eyebrow at him. 'Come on, who is going to comment?'

The bartender sighed, mixed up the drink and took the money quickly. 'If I ever meet your Da' I'll be giving him a word.' He said.

Lex turned away to survey the restaurant. 'You don't want a reason to meet my Da', believe me,' he mumbled under his breath.

So there was Jessica Charleston the healer with the personality of a robot, drinking water in one of the booths. Zach, the time-travelling braniac, sipping water on the other side of the bar. Tashi, the detention regular during training, sitting next to Jaegar, the reason three dead dogs were found on the roadside near the entrance to the assassins guild. Lastly, a girl who had stood up with a murderous glint in her eyes, he assumed to be Nicole, or Terra, the rumours seemed to vary as much as the personality.

It seemed nobody else had turned up. He stood up, pleased with himself that he felt little more than a light buzz after chucking back the tonic. He tapped Jessica on the shoulder and flicked his head to the booth where Tashi sat. On his way past he nudged Terra, who seemed like she was about to lash out until she realised what it was for. Zach, noticing what was going on around him, came to join the group.

'Is this it?' Lex asked. He stood up straight and took one last look around, then leant in. 'So everyone knows the job, right.' He turned to Jaegar and let a slow breath out. 'Jaegar, dress more appropriately next time.'

Jaegar smirked with him, and it took all of Lex's courage to maintain eye contact. 'You're going to stick out like a sausage in a salad box. Stay in the lighter areas and act like a tourist.' He schooled his expression to reveal nothing, which was difficult as he watched his own mutilation played out in Jaegars eyes like an old horror movie.

Lex held his stare as long as he could until something distracted him. 'The target is moving towards the bar. First thing we need to do is lure him elsewhere. Either a drunken fight or a lovely lady should do the trick.

'Any volunteers?'

"Any volunteers?" Lex asked. No one said anything for a minute.

“As much as both of your ideas aren’t cliché at all,” I spoke coyly, my eyes glancing over the rest of the team. “I’d be glad to show you all how things are done right. There’s an alley down the street near a coffee shop. You guys follow us at a distance, try to look normal. Once I get near the alley, you lot should be bright enough to know what to do. ”

Most of them nodded, but Jaegar spoke up, “And you intend to lure him there how?”

I put both hands on the table and stood up, my face inches from him. “I’m a girl, he’s a guy, figure it out.”

I got my coat of the chair, and draped it over my arm. Head held high, I walked out the door. Once I was outside, I put on my best upset face, and began to fake cry. As he walked nearer towards me, I intentionally dropped my coat, and began to fake cry even harder. I bent down excessively low to pick it up, and I had a feeling Mud was getting a good view. I pretended to just notice he was there. Wiping the tears from my face, I spoke to him.

“What do you want?” I asked him.

"Well, I...” he broke of his sentence as I cut him off.

“Oh, it doesn’t matter; no one even cares about me anyway. And I have to walk home all by myself,” More fake crying. Absolutely pathetic; especially because he was buying it.

“Here, let me walk you home,” he offered kindly. I sniffled, and nodded. With his standing beside me, his arm wrapped gently around my shoulder, I began to walk towards the alley.
Love is beautiful, but what would love be without life?

I did not like following. Not at all. They needed me, I knew they knew, and I was stuck tailing the girl who thought she was the master and the target who, by my count, could be dead already. Chloryoximine- I had a vial tucked in my pocket. Three drops, he'd be unconscious, we push him down stairs. Easy, no?

"Eto bezumie," I hissed.

"What?" the blonde -Jaegar? A strange name- asked.

"You do not speak Russian?"

He shook his head. I tsked. "A shame."

In a softer tone, I whispered, "Eto delaet yee namnogo proshche dlya menya." That makes it so much easier for me. He shot me a look. I shrugged defensively.

"It is easier to speak in my native tongue," I explained. I'd never been so proud of my accent. Lex, the odd looking minor, was tapping out something on his phone, and I muttered an old saying. I will not bother to tell it to you; something is lost in translation. I averted the eyes of the others, instead acting as casual as you like, picking across the street.

This was still bezumie.

Jaegar

Location: Alley by Bare-Lee Edible

The hunt was on. He could almost taste the blood in his mouth. As the others surged in front of him, casually walking towards the alley, Jaegar blended. White, who cares if he was wearing white. Everyone wore white at night, didn't they? The other assassins seemed almost to forget that he wasn't meant to be wearing white and puzzled looks formed on their faces as they looked back at him.

The smile stayed in place on his face as he briskly caught up. The girl he had screamed at, Tashi, was speaking in a foreign language and it had taken all his will power to not kill her. The anger at her writhed in his heart and bubbled in his skin. He hoped he would be the one to kill the target. Otherwise, he absolutely knew who would be in the most danger.

A glance towards Tashi made him even more angry. So much more angry, even his smile seemed to be slipping. He took a deep breath and counted to ten different people's deaths in different ways. She said something else in that language. Jaegar froze. The explosion from this morning would pale in comparison to this, if he let it out.

But he wouldn't. He'd learned how to bottle it in. He used to be able to do it fine until... until that day. Until he had finally learnt the true reality of his life and the absolute pleasure of killing. After his first murder he hadn't been able to contain his emotions.

His eyes were locked on Tashi, his breath coming fast and the need to kill her almost taking over him completely. Until finally, they arrived at the alley and the target.

I pulled up the hood of my trench coat and stood in the shadows leaning against the wall of an abandoned boarded building. My eyes scanned the streets around me in detail, taking in every phone booth, every street-lamp and every passer-by. To some, such detail wouldn’t matter, but to me, it could mean the difference between life and death. It was only until my eyes peered up towards the rooftops of the neighbouring buildings, did I discover what I had been eager to find: a surveillance camera, perfectly positioned towards the alleyway where the target would be dealt with.

I immediately pulled out what would appear to normal people as a set of car keys from my trench pocket. Attached to the key-chain was a red portable laser that I had managed to create during my first year in The Academy. I removed the cap and pointed the beam towards the camera. Instantly, the camera was disabled. A ghost of a smile appeared on my face.

The coast was now clear.

'Are we there yet?' Lex whined loudly. 'I'm tired, you said the hotel was only ten minutes away!'

Mud glanced up carelessly as they walked down the alley, then looked back at Jessica.

'I've got a place that's a little more... private, maybe you and I can talk,' Mud said, glancing down at Jessica in a way that made Lex cringe.

'No, I'm fine,' Jessica's expression changed suddenly. Time to make the hit. Mud seemed to misinterpret it, and grinned foolishly. 'Besides, my frie-'

She was interrupted by Zach coughing and spluttering loudly, as if he had choked on a hamster.

'I told you to see a doctor,' Tashi said. 'Look left, you're making him worry.' Tashi could have been referring to Lex, but Jessica understood straight away and glanced to her left. There was a man standing at the other end of the alley.

'Sorry, am I interrupting something?' The man said. 'Mopbucket, you owe me money.'

'I'm in the middle of something,' Mud said, agitation showing on his face.

'If you can afford that, you can afford to pay me.' He moved forward, his long legs taking few paces to reach them. Obviously, Mud was an acquaintance his that he had little respect or fear of. 'Has this started yet, or can you give a refund?'

'Sorry, what?' Jessica said, slipping back into character. She glanced between them with an expression of fake nervousness.

Lex cursed under his breath. No witnesses allowed, dead or alive.

Without hesitation, I grabbed the man’s head and shoved it with great force against the alley wall.

“We haven’t got time for this,” I said, responding to the looks coming from the others. “No witnesses Alpha Dog said.” I heaved the man’s body with great difficulty before shoving him inside a nearby dumpster and slamming the lid shut. I took a quick glance at my Rolex. “We only have fifteen minutes to eliminate the target in a way that avoids suspicion.”

“W-wait a minute...” spluttered Mud, his expression torn between being grateful and completely confused. “Who are you all? What target are you talking about?”

He tried to make a break for it, but Lex was already on the case. He tripped Mud up on his feet and caught him just in time to bring him into a loose choke-hold.

“Now, we’ve got two options,” I said, rolling up the sleeves of my trench. “The easy option, which is to make this look like an accident, i.e. have him die over an accidental drug overdose – which is believable because according to the background digging I’ve done the man clearly has a history of drug abuse...”

“What the-?” Mud began, looking up at me. “How the hell did you-”

Lex strengthened his grip around Mud’s throat, shutting him up.

I turned to the others to continue, “Or the second option, which is to make this look like murder of a different sort.”

“What do you mean?” asked Jessica.

“Well, according to my research, Mud has also had a history with female escorts.”

“You mean prostitutes?” said Lex.

I nodded. “One such woman went by the name of Diana Morrison. Mud regularly visited Miss Morrison before marrying his wife, after which he eliminated all ties with the woman. Needless to say Miss Morrison, who was now in love with Mud, was less than happy with the news, and, according to the papers, she has threatened to kill Mud on a number of occasions if he refuses to leave his wife. If I can’t have him, no one can – that sort of thing.”

“Am I the only one wondering what any of this has to do with killing the guy?” said Jaegar impatiently.

“It’s simple,” I said, pulling out a small strip of paper that was shiny on one side. “Here I have the fingerprint of Miss Morrison, all we need to do is pop Mud in the head, place Miss Morrison’s fingerprints on the weapon and there we have our murder.”

"And how exactly did you manage to get her fingerprints in the first place?" smirked Jaegar.

I cleared my throat awkwardly. "I have my ways..."

“But what about alibis?” asked Jessica. “Diane Morrison might be able to prove that she wasn’t here to commit the murder in the first place.”

“I can go back in time and change her plans so that she is here, I’ll even change things so that she has some sort of heated exchange with Mud in the presence of those customers inside Bare-Lee Edibles. That should do the trick.”

The others looked towards one another. I couldn’t tell what they were thinking.

“We now have less than twenty minutes,” I informed them all, taking a final glance at my Rolex.

Terra

Was she serious? Why couldn't we kill the loser and be over with this? In fact, I decided I'd show some incentive. I reach down, shocked to see I was wearing my sister's clothes... but shook my head and pulled my dagger out of it's holster.
"Nico- Terra, whoever you are, what are you doing?"
I didn't turn to see who questioned me. I lunged forward and stabbed Mud. Once, twice, thrice. His red juices squirting out faster with every blow. He was obviously dead, but I kept stabbing, until his stomach looked like... like red jello, that's it. A beautiful red jello. A harmless read jello, and most importantly, a dead. Red. Jello. I felt a hand on my shoulder, and turned quickly, dagger ready for whoever had interrupted me.

Jaegar

Location: Alley by Bare-Lee Edible
Date: October 9th, 2010
Time: 8:24

The sight of blood made Jaegar mentally blank out for a second and all he could see was the crimson redness dripping from the girl's hands. An anger stronger than anything he had suffered today flooded his mind. His face dropped all expression, his constant smile gone and his left eye twitched spasmodically. A quiet scream twisted out of his mouth and he gripped at his head. The other's watched quietly taken off guard by Terra's actions. When Jaegar stood again a different smile played on his lips. It was clear to see that it wasn't really Jaegar...

Slowly, while watching the girl continuously stab the body, he laid a hand onto the girl's shoulder. With the reaction of a tiger she flicked the dagger up in defense ready to kill whoever it was who was touching her. She froze when she saw Jaegar's eyes. They'd gone black. Black as Death.

His hands drifted ephereally to her neck, as graceful as that of a professional pianist. Her mouth opened and closed eyes glued to Jaegar's, unable to disconnect his glare. As soon as his hands contacted with her neck one of the other's finally spoke, "No killing the team, Jaegar."

Jaegar didn't appear to hear them, whoever they were, but the voice had snapped Terra out of her reverie, "Get off me, you psycho!"

Her dagger, covered with blood, suddenly came alive and with a thrust it was aimed at Jaegar's stomach. A drop of blood flew off the tip, as the dagger cut through the air, and landed onto Jaegar's face. The feeling of the ripples made him pause. It felt like rain... Like the first time he woken up alone... His eyes fluttered once... twice... and then they were brown again. The dagger was about a centimetre from disembowling him when he side stepped.

As he turned to the other's his smile stapled right where it used to be, he said, "How are we going to cover this?"

"... we still have the fingerprints, right?" asked Lex.

Zach nodded. Lex continued, "Then just put the fingerprints on the stupid girl's dagger. That should do, right?"

Jaegar's smile widened, "That sounds good. Though, if I do say so myself as an expert on these matters, this definitely doesn't look unsuspicious..."

Jessica nodded, "Okay. Let's get to it."

As they each did their own little bit, they finally finished. Zach let out a sigh of relief, "And with ten minutes to go, I think we cut this a bit thin."

Lex

Location: Assasins Guild
Date: October 9th, 2010
Time: 8:54

'What a bunch of twits,' Lex hissed to himself. He arrived back at the guild, leaving the others to return to their own affairs. With a bowed head he headed for the lift that would take him down to the cold, dark room where his father sat speaking with another recruit.

'Ah, my son!' He smiled. The other man in the room seemed mildly offended that his conversation had been cut short. He put one hand around Lex's shoulders and turned to the other man. 'This is Lex, one of the new graduates, just finished his first mission.'

'Dad, about that-'

'You can inform me of the details later, I want to hear everything.'

'Dad, there's-'

'I'll let Alpha Dog know that the mission has been completed successfully and-'

'Dad!' Lex snapped. He couldn't bring himself to meet his fathers eyes. 'We need to talk.' His fathers expression darkened. The stranger took initiative and made a swift exit.

'Go on,' Tiran said.

'We messed up.'

There was a heavy silence. Lex lowered his head until his chin almost touched his chest and felt his hands tremble slightly.

'Explain.'

'Mopbucket is dead, stabbed, too many times to count. There was a witness who is also dead, his skull smashed when he hit the wall.' He considered continuing to explain how they made it look like someone else had murdered him, but thought better of it.

'Who disobeyed orders?'

Lex took a deep, slow breath and closed his eyes. 'It's my team, I'll take the blame.'

'You know the punishment. It's your first mission, accidents happen, that's why we never give a serious mission to the new graduates.' His father moved around the back if him and started massaging his shoulders. 'Make sure it doesn't happen again.' He pressed into the space below the collarbone so hard Lex screamed in pain. Tiran kept hold for five, ten, fifteen seconds. He kept hold for as long as it would take for his son to realise that the punishment he would endure, should he make a serious mistake, would not be short, and far from painless.

When he let go Lex fell to the floor and curled over. His father always knew how to make him feel like a small child again. Even though the pain faded after a minute or two, he stayed low on the ground. He knew perfectly well what the consequences of a failed mission could be, that's what scared him most.

I swayed with my walk. Speakerphone was one of my favorite songs- why shouldn't I? I was still.... in English I believe the term is 'ticked' at the repulsive girl with the split personality. I had heard what they did to Lex for it- the boy was still a minor and being punished for something an unreliable agent had done. I could still see the squirting blood... ugh.

I sat down on a bench and swung one leg over the other. I'd given up on skinny jeans; they restricted my running to basically what I imagined a penguin would do if in heavy pursuit. I looked like an idiot. I decided on black cargo pants slid into the same boots and a snug fit black shirt, long sleeved, made of t-shirt material. With my red fedora set at a jaunty angle, a black feather in its band, the collar of my gray sleeveless coat popped, I counted the beat off with my head.

I'd decided it with one of the other members a while ago; I'd wear a red fedora, and so they would know where I was. I came more heavily armed, too, a gun tucked in the back of my waistband, a knife strapped to my right forearm, and a longer one to my side. Plus the disassembled sniper rifle in my bag- no one could mess with me now. And the oddly-named blonde boy was no threat, though I still feared him, ever so slightly.

I was excited for this mission. I already had something planned, something that would go down in the text books. That is the term, yes?

Oh, whatever it was. It would be remembered.

Zach

I couldn’t believe it. My very first assignment after joining the Guild and I’d failed! In anger, I threw the contents of my table onto the floor with one great violent sweep. How the hell could I ever be able to get my revenge on the corporation that killed my parents if I couldn’t even successfully carry out a simple mission like the one we had tonight?

I slammed my back against the wall and ran a hand through my hair in frustration. No, I said to myself. I had to try again.

I quickly scanned my notebook, this time more carefully, as I let my mind take in the information regarding the latest assassination. Alpha Dog wanted to bring down the underground anarchist organisation Mess, and he wanted it to be memorable. A small smile tugged across my lips.

Memorable killings had always been something of a speciality of mine.

I quickly pulled down the attic door from above my dorm and climbed up. No one knew about this little laboratory of pain I had up here, and I liked it that way. I walked past the many stocked shelves of illegal chemicals and substances until I reached the medium-sized table at the end of the room. Lying strewn across it were numerous devices, all of which I had managed to invent over the years. I looked at them all, contemplating over which one of the devices would manage to inflict my target with the most pain. After locating said device, I popped it into the pocket of trench-coat before heading back down to my dorm.

Once my feet hit the floor, I returned my attention to my notebook and scanned the names of the chosen targets. Allan Ableworth – known to carry weapons, Benjamin Boutique – known for his ability to disguise himself and create decoys, Collin Capillo – trained in martial arts...

I stopped, snapping the notebook shut. Collin Capillo it is then ... and here was me thinking all that martial arts training Granddad had given me would never actually come in handy.

I pulled up the hood of my trench-coat, a ghost of a smile appearing across my face as I headed for Alwayslate Train Station.

This time I wouldn’t fail. And that was a guaran-damn-tee.
