Note: This storybook is a derivative of a storybook called “Eidolon’s Chains”. It will borrow some of the concepts from that SB but you don’t need to know what’s happening in that SB to play this one.

Plot:
In a distant part of the magical world, there was a town that precipitated occasionally with enchanted rain. This town was located in a middle of a desert and nestled at the foot of a mountain. The desert itself was home to many ancient ruins, catacombs, and the remains of travelers and fierce beasts.
The townsfolk not only used this water for drinking and cleaning, but for farming and industrial uses. To prevent erosion from becoming a problem, the town was laid out in a “dream catcher” like shape. The actual town itself was the outer ring, and the streets themselves were made of flagstone so that excess water could run off into the grades that led all the way to a nearby lake.
Inside of the ring was where the farms are, and there were many paths that branched off to the various farming patches. Because the farms were exposed to this enchanted rain, they were able to grow normally like in a standard farm. There were also cacti planted throughout the farms to further help prevent erosion.
Farming was not the only way the town made money. Quite a bit of it also came from exporting purified rain water to a niche alchemist market. When there was a downpour of rain, the chemists that worked in the town collected the water for processing. However, there were many factors involved that limited the amount of this purified enchanted water that’s actually distributed.
Firstly, there was a lot of upkeep involved in maintaining the machines because of its tendencies to break if not supervised. Secondly, the process was rather complex, and training actually took a few months. And thirdly, the actual process itself also took some time to complete. But despite all these factors, it was a rather profitable business due to the exorbitant prices that alchemists were willing to pay.
The town was prospering...Until one day, a group of Black Mages secretly infiltrated the sanctuary at the top of the mountain where the artifact that magically generated the rain was located. Little was known of their intentions. Some of the townsfolk speculated that because the Black Mages had loose ties with a kingdom that’s still recovering from depression due to a war that spanned several years, they were simply using the artifact to help rebuild their society. Some saw little point for them to steal the artifact, considering that it only worked if it was placed in its socket in the sanctuary.
Meanwhile, a group of Royal Guards have been deployed to the town to help track down the Black Mages, find out why they’ve stolen the artifact, and to bring them to justice.
Setting:
A desert town (nestled at the foot of a mountain) that only precipitates enchanted rain. There’s also a rail-road track that leads to main civilization. Surrounding the town are many ancient ruins, catacombs, and the remains of dead travelers and fierce beasts.
The now:
I haven't decided on this, but I intend to have the two parties start together at two different points.
Information and concepts:
Think of this storybook as a steam-punk fantasy (like Fullmetal Alchemist). The Royal Guards are the equivalent of Aurors from Harry Potter and the Black Mages are kind of like Team Rocket.
In short, this storybook will have a Harry Potter meets Pokemon kind of feel to it.
Important!: If you are part of the Black Mages, then I'll be PMing you guys the reason as to why they've stolen the artifact. This is so that those that are playing as Royal Guards do not find out. Storybook also doesn't start till the 18th of August.
Rules:
Standard rules apply (I also have a right to approval of posts and profiles). For god-moding, you can only dictate another character’s actions if you can keep them in character and if the action isn’t a drastic one.
Misc:
Please try to use correct grammar (I cannot stress this enough). Posts have to be meaningful and move the plot forward in some significant way. Please don’t write about fluff as it will make it difficult for people to enjoy this storybook and to be able to include you in their posts.
Please (and I cannot stress this enough) have a character that will fit the plot and to include others in your post. This is meant to be collaboration after all.
