Page Sixteen Summary:

Cyrus detects the elves, so the group leaves the caves to meet them. Valin kills their leader and the others become captives.

They learn that the Priesthood is working with the elves. According to the elves, Valin is a traitor because he is working with humans, which are plotting to kill off all the elves.

The Priests watch this occur. The head priest, Magus, apparently is the father of Sirloaz.

Alden's Jewel has been growing bigger all the while. He flies off to a fort to get some horses for the group.

Page Eighteen Summary:

Emotions continue to run high. The group discusses various ideas on what to do. Some want to pursue the elves (who presumably are responsible) others want to bury the dead.

Alden gets orders to report back to the fort he was at with the group. The group goes to the fort to report on Sedgeley.

They're set to meet with the commanding officer, General Harris.

Page 19 Summary:

New NPC: General Joan Harris. She's an old lady with a keen sense of discipline and strategy. She's very blunt with the group, she thinks they're like the other drunk and disorganized mercenary outfits going around. She likens them similar to a disease in this respect.

After making the group bathe, General Harris meets with them.

Alden reports to Harris, telling them what has happened since the storybook began. The others join in, to fill in the gaps on what has happened. They report that no survivors were found at Sedgeley.

Valin tells Harris that he is her superior officer, rips up contracts that she has given Finn and Carmenia. Before walking out with the group.

An officer attempts to prevent the others from leaving, and is injured by Valin. No further attempts are made to bring them back.

Sirloaz and Cyrus go off to drink booze, which is strictly forbidden in Gen. Harris's camp.

Seraph remains with Harris, and they talk about the group. In return for not ordering them around, the group will follow her rules.

Harris makes plans to distance her troops from the group, before calling for the group to meet with her staff.

Seraph enters the mess hall where Valin, Cyrus and others are defying Harris's rules in full view of her soldiers. Seraph chews out the group for their actions.

Valin assures Seraph he'll play nice, as long as Harris does.
