“There are lots,” Kynina said, “and it helps to begin somewhere. These people are a good starting point.”

Thane tilted her head to acknowledge the statement.

“What do you think?” Kynina asked, looking at both of Thane and Railyn in turn. “Do we do something about it?”

"You know what would help jumpstart the change? Getting a God Crystal." He sighed. "You think us getting detention helps our odds?"

Kynina couldn’t help but grin amusedly. “That’s a big step up from writing a letter, but maybe it’s meant for one of us.”

Railyn held up his spectacular drawing. "What do you think, Kynina?" He looked down at it. "It's you. Or a bat. I'm not quite sure."

Kynina’s gaze went between the still-silent Thane and him. “Definitely a bat,” she said, biting her lip so she wouldn’t laugh in the serious situation. She still failed to hide a thin smile.

Thane looked at the drawing and said in a serious tone, "It's her as a bat."

Railyn glanced back at the drawing. "Hmm." He flipped the paper over and started on another super duper serious drawing

Thane squinted slightly at him then turned her attention back to Kynina. "What makes you think either of you are qualified to get the God crystal?" She didn't say it meanly, like she didn't believe them, just very bluntly, like she genuinely wanted an explanation.

Railyn shrugged. "I wouldn't say I'm the most qualified, per say, but I got into the academy, so it's a start."

"Clearly we all did," Thane said, "so you're going to have to think of a better reason since it's a Lux-exclusive competition."

"Well, duh, but clearly others want it as well, so I got this far, we all did." Railyn erased a part of his sketches. "And I'm more of a visual person. Ooh wait," Railyn glanced over at the professor. "You all wanna have a little fun?"

Thane narrowed her eyes. "Depends on your definition."

Railyn stared at Thane, smirking. "Let's go to the sparring grounds."
