"I better get going, i don't think your friends like me that much." Siren said smiling at Jake,

"Don't go, I don't have anything to do, Gared and Elizabeth will argue about how she should stay and Anna will try to keep their voices down." Jake said,

"You don't understand, it takes a while for a vampire to trust another they don't know. And after what happened to y'all i don't think i am going to be welcome." She said turning to go.

"What are you doing here?" She heard someone hiss. She spun around and saw Anna, she was standing next to Jake with a mean look on her face. Gared looked out at them and his face hardened.

"I was leaving, sorry." Siren said,

"Why are you here to begin with?" Gared demanded.

"I wanted to make sure the girl was alright," she responded.

"Then why didn't you show yourself?"

"If you saw your face you would know."

"Whats that supposed to mean?" he demanded.

"You don't seem like someone that would tolerate a new person right now." She said, "You look ready to attack the first person that makes you mad."

"Gared, she isn't gonna do any of us harm." Jake said, but Gared ignored him.

Anna stepped forward, slowly and trying to force a friendlier expression.

"Look, girl..." she hesitated. "What's your name?"

"Siren."

"Okay, Siren, it's not that you're not welcome, it's just that we're not sure who to trust right now."

"Which is why I'm leave - "

Anna cut her off. "No. You can stay, perhaps, if you don't cause trouble." She leaned closer, so she could whisper in Siren's ear. "And don't worry about Gared. I'll handle him if I must. You just watch what you say and do."

Siren mulled through that a moment, and Anna waited patiently for the girl's answer.

Elizabeth took the oppertunity to try to sneak away, but just as she got to the door she was met by Gared, "Gared come on."

"No." He turned her around and nearly pushed her back into the room.

She felt like she was four, "who's that?" She pointed at Siren.

"Alright, for a little while." She said, Gared frowned and walked back in the room. Jake smiled.

"So how long have you been a vampire." He aske,d

"SHhh, not so loud, not very long i was bite." She replied.

"What happened to the one that bite you?" Jake asked,

"He dissappeard." She replied looking away from him.

"Really?" Anna asked, curious.

Siren nodded. She seemed reluctant to continue the conversation.

"If you don't want to talk about it, fine. But you'll be over your insecurity soon. I was uneasy for six years after I was bitten, but I'm fine now."

"When were you bitten?" Jake turned to Anna.

She stared at him. "Many, many years ago. It was just before the first car came onto the streets."

"So it is true, we live for ever." SHe said softly.

"Yup, how much were you told about it?" Anna asked,

"Very little, but just enough." She replied.

"Well, you are aware of the fact we live forever unless we're killed, right?" Anna looked at her before continuing.

"Stakes to the heart, sunlight - of course - and anything considered pure and holy. Garlic, I think, mutes us if it's devoured, and crosses are wards. You know that much, I assume?"

"Yes, I have figured all that out. I miss sunlight, but at times it is like a curse." She said, "Living forever must get lonely though, and boring if you know everything, at least til times change."

"Oh, you can't believe how bored I've been. Now days, I find myself just walking the streets, admiring mortals just to pass the time," Anna sighed.

"Really?" Jake asked.

"Yes. I rarely kill anyone, though. Only if they realize I'm a vampire and try to kill me. I've killed to feed only three times, and I hated it."

"Why'd you kill them, then?"

"Because I would've died if I hadn't."

Anna looked at the window. The sun was rising.

"Excuse me?" she turned to a nurse. "Do you have anywhere for me to stay for the day? The sun's already out..."

The nurse seemed to understand instantly. "Ah, you're a vampire, too?"

Anna nodded. "Yes, ma'am."

"Right this way, then."

Gared insisted on staying in Elizabeths room, and just to humor him the nurses put the vamp sheilds up.

"You know you don't have to stay," Liz said.

"No, I have to, at least for my own sanity."

Elizabeth sighed, but didn't press him further, she kinda liked him being there.
