Reg Carter
Jack had gotten the message, even if he did decide not to take it on board and carry on his usual ways. One of us would end up dead eventually, and it wouldn't be down to chance. I walked upstairs and wandered around the new house we would be "camping" in for the night; it was a bit bigger than the last and most notably a bit more inconspicuious with the front yard stretching long enough from the road. I noticed one of the bedroom doors was shut, unlike the others, and although the house was for sale, there might still be a good chance that someone was here.
The approach I'd take would determine most things, such as if they had a gun and I barged right on in, they'd shoot without second thought. No, I'd knock first, see if there was an answer. Slowly my closed fist banged the door twice. There was a moment of silence before someone on the otherside of the door spoke.
"Who is it?" It was Riley's voice.
"Just me," I replied through the door. "Makin' sure we didn't have any unwanted guests."
"Come in," she shot back as I was walking away. I thought the urgency in which she said it was surprising, but she happened to be acting a little odd recently, so I let it pass. I opened the door and walked in to see her stretched out on the bed, blowing her hair out of her eyes and trying to relax. She looked remarkably beautiful there and then, a slight reminder of Bree too, but pretty in her own right. I pushed the thought away and sat down on a chair near the closet in the corner of the room.
"What can I do for ya, Riles?" I asked naturally.
