Valentina Odelle

Valentina awoke to the brutal knocks on her door. She frowned and stretched, throwing on a sweater. The knocks sharpened and she sighed.

"I'm comi--"

"Orders from his Majesty! Open up!" the voices barked.

Valentina peered out the door to the hard eyes of the soldiers and flinched back.

"What are you here for?"

They looked at her strangely for a moment.

"We're here to take you, have you not received a letter?"

"I never check my mail." she responded blankly.

"Well, we'll give you a few minutes to gather some belongings." The said, forcing into the door.

Valentina ran up the stairs and gathered a few of her belongings into a bag before quietly joining the soldiers downstairs.

I'm sorry for being so late about this.

Carla Sanche

Carla carefully wrapped the bandage around the soldier's wound. Blood started to stain the white sheet right through immediately, and she added pressure. She hated this job - anything would be better than helping those who worked so willingly for the King. But she'd been able to learn so much that would enable her to help those supressed, and for the most part she could keep her mouth shut.

Blocking out the sound of the soldier's pained screams, she smiled at him. "You should be better in a few weeks, sir. Doctor Martin will be here in an hour or so to check in on you. Now, try not to get into too many fights with the civilians, okay? There's nothing you can gain from it."

"You'll step across the line one day, girl," he said.

"I probably already have, sir. But I can make a difference like this, and-" she pushed hard on the wound - "I know exactly how to make you keep quiet about this."

"You're right," the soldier said. "And I wasn't sure I wanted to do this. But the King knows about you and what you've done for his enemies. And he's sent me personally to deliver this."

He pressed a small, white envelope into Carla's bloody hands.

Ashton

Ashton had followed the guards quite willingly. He seemed perfectly at ease, and was humming quietly under his breath to a tune he loved. This annoyed the guards, but they knew better than to say anything. The staff strapped to Ashton's back could be extremely deadly, even if they were armed with blades. Ashton had earned a bit of a reputation here; something he wasn't too happy about. But at least it was keeping the guards off his back.

**Yeah, sorry it's short, but I really have no idea where to put him. >.< If someone would tell me I'd be grateful.**

Thanks for posting, guys! <3

Kelcia: Sure you can join! It's only just started. Just post a profile and slot your character into the group!

And, Gasper, no worries. I'll sort it out now. :)

Dylan Hawkins.

Dylan had been walking next to the soldier. He realised that they had been at training camp together a few years ago, so they managed to pass the time easily together.
"So," the soldier asked eventually, "why did you sign up?"
"It's the ultimate way to honour the King, isn't it?" replied Dylan, shrugging. "Anyway, not enough people are signing up, and the majority of rebels have been ferreted out. People should see it as an honour, shouldn't they?"
The soldier laughed and clapped him on the back. "Right you are, right you are. But some of us need to stay and protect the King, right!"
Dylan laughed, and they turned the corner from his street.

"Ah, here we are," said the soldier. "The rest of your group."
There was a group of citizens standing in the middle of the street, surrounded by a few soldiers. Dylan gulped. It was obvious that none of the citizens had signed up for this; there was a clear divide between them and the soldiers. As if sensing this too, the soldier took an unconscious step away from Dylan and walked straight to the others. Dylan was left to walk to the other people. His group.
"Uh, hi." He smiled, looking around the group.

(Lawwwd, but he is a difficult character to develop.!)
"It is curious how often you humans manage to obtain that which you do not want."

Whoo! Thanks! Oh, and sorry if this is a bit long. ;) (By the way, the italics are a flash back.)

Spoiler
Character Profile:

Name: Maria Ottoman

Age: 23

Gender: Female

Appearance: Frizzy brown hair, green eyes, freckles, average height, slim.

Personality: Very mischievous. Maria loves being in the thick of things. She’s very good liar, and she hasn’t a care in the world.

Role: Citizen.

Stance on the King: She doesn’t mind him (much).

Why picked for experiment: Her old boyfriend, a Colonel in the army, might have put her name on the draft list. Or one of the many guards she’s annoyed. Or maybe she was telling tall tales to the wrong person. She’s not really sure.

History: Maria works as a barmaid at her parent’s inn. That way, she can keep an ear out for all the local gossip. She has worked in the inn since she was five, and is going to inherit it when her parents retire. She’s a decent enough cook, but doesn’t have the patience for it.

Other: Up for love.

Maria

The messenger wordlessly passed her a cream-colored envelope. Setting down a half-washed tankard, Maria took the letter in her slightly damp hand.

“Whatsa matter, Evan?” she said as the messenger turned to leave. “Not going to stay for a drink?”

“No,” he said, staring at his feet. “The post master wants me back on the double.” Maria, who had been looking, eyebrows raised, at the messenger’s face, turned her attention back to the letter in her hands.

The red wax seal glistened as it caught the lamp light. Her raised eyebrows rose a little higher.

“From the king, eh? You should feel honored, Evan. It’s not every day that you deliver something from the royal courts.” Evan flushed.

“Not really. I’m delivering them all too often these days.” He waited as she opened the envelope and read the letter within. Suddenly, Maria let out a bitter laugh.

“Well, I’ll be hanged.” She said, smiling wryly. “It seems as if the Man is after my hide. I’m to be taken somewhere by His Majesty’s henchmen. What fun.” Evan looked alarmed.

“I think I’ll take that drink,” he said, sinking onto a bar stool.

After the last customer had left, Maria cautiously went back into the kitchens. Her mother was sitting by the stove, sewing contentedly as she waited for the bread to bake.

“Mum?” Maria said cautiously. “I got a letter today. From the government.” The woman abruptly stopped her sewing.

“About what?” she asked, turning to face her daughter.

“I suppose they want me for the army, as a cook or something.” Maria lied. She suspected that the letter writer wanted nothing like that from her. But her mother’s heart wasn’t as strong as it once had been, and Maria feared that the truth would almost kill her. All the same, her mother’s face looked grave.

“When?” she asked solemnly.

“Tomorrow morning, at eleven.”

Maria now stood at the front of the small group. By the gods, if this isn’t depressing, she thought as the last member of the group arrived.

“Uh, hi.” He said, smiling.

“Hiya,” she stuck out her hand for him to shake. “I suppose we best all get to know each other, eh? After all, this may be the point of no return, but it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be sociable.” She grinned. “I’m Maria.”

Eve Dubiel

I stared at all the other citizens.
"So how many of you actually signed up for this damn thing?" I questioned, after giving each one of them a quick nod meant to be a hello.
"Me." Said the guy who just entered the fairly large, yet quiet group.
I stared at him in disgust.
These people who admired the king. How could they? It was sickening.
I nodded, making sure to hide my look of absolute haterd. I didn't want to seem too suspicious.
"Alright! Line up, we must start immediatley!" Barked one of the soliders.
It was time.

Jade

I couldn't believe someone would sign up for this. Some people were just insane, or has lead poisoning. More likely the second one, it was getting surprisingly common now. A girl walks up to me.

"I am Eve." She said. Eve was londe slender, pretty. She didn't look like the type to do much wrong.

"What did you do to get dragged along into this?" I asked, not really in the mood to talk.

"Part of a Rebel group." She said.

I flashed a smile, "The leader of one, tell me, have you ever heard of the Foxes?"

"Yes, why."

"I was the leader." I said, she let out a little gasp.

"So, you're Ginny, Ginny Alaris? You are like, a legend!"

"Thats what I told the group, but, in fact, I lied. But my real name is Jaden. Call me Jade."

I was done with talking now. I didn't talk all that much, but I could tell this girl was a talker. She also spoke her mind. A lot. That was not something Iwas very fond of. I was more of the think-before-you-speak or don't-speak-at-all type people.

I go over beside Sage.

"What do you imagine they will do to us?" He asked.

I wasn't sure wether to be honest, or comforting.

"Well, I am not sure. But I think a compaion of mime who, alas, is dead, mentioned something about testing a type of torture for effectiveness. But that is just what he said."
Love is beautiful, but what would love be without life?

Valentia

Valentina looks over the group quietly, standing far to the side. Other young women shouted out, asking for who had signed up. Why am I here exact--Oh, right.she answered her own mental question.

Looking at each face, she wondered what exactly was going to happen. She'd heard rumors about the experiments in the shop, but those were rumors.

With a little breath she sat down and looked up at the guard who glared at her.

"What? May as well keep me comfortable if you're going to kill me." she said with a little smirk.

*Adrian Portercuss*

I make my way towards the man who had said he signed up for this. At least he will understand my feelings. I am fairly sure that most of the people here wouldn't hesitate to strangle me if I told them the I support the king. The man stood to the side.
"Good day. Adrian's the name." I started.
"Hawkins. Dylan Hawkins." He replied. He had the air of a soldier. As if reading my mind, he said,"I'm in the King's army. I signed up."
"So I heard." I replied."I support the king as well." I said. His posture relaxed a little.
"Very good." He wasn't much of a talker, so we just stood there in companionable silence.
Honey, you should see me in a crown.

Sage Kellum

I followed the gaurds to where a big group of cilvilians stood.

I waited a few moments before diciding I should at least try to make a friend here. I walked up to one of the men who seemed to be standing away from the others.

"Hey," I said holding out a hand. "Sage Kellum."

Ashton

Ashton smiled and shook Sage's hand. "Ashton, Ashton Collins." He laughed. "How'd you get yourself into this mess, then?" He was very curious. Had they been chosen at random? Did they all have something in common? Or were they choosing people who were completely different from one another? So many unanswered questions...

**Again, sorry it's short, but I hate controlling other people's characters.**

Kay -- Do you mind if we ignore that post of yours? I really didn't want Eve to tell anyone about her being a rebel, it's a secret, so she's not just going to give it away. Plus, it's a tad bit controlling.

Sage Kellum

I grinned slightly. "Nice to meet you Ashton!" I sighed. "I was a little too mouthy to one of my officers. They dicided to send me here to teach me a lesson about "respect"." I looked at him closely. He seemed like a nice enough guy, happy obviously. He most likey didn't know what was going on.

"How did you get into this?" I asked.

Ashton

He shrugged. "I honestly have no idea. I was only passing through, really. I was supposed to leave today, but last night I got a letter telling me that someone would be here to get me this morning. And, well, I really haven't got anywhere else to go, so I decided to see what was going on." He sighed. "Judging by all the guards around here, it wasn't the best descision I could have made."
