Loki

This could be complex or it could be simple though as of yet I am unsure which it will be and I'm hoping that you will all help me. Reyu requested that I create this and now I'm obliging but apparently the plot is up to me. So without further ado, allow me to introduce Loki:

Loki is often thought of as the trickster God and is the reluctant hero of much of Norse mythology. In this storybook, the other Gods and Goddesses have to convince him to help them rescue Gersemi, daughter of Freyja and Odr, from the ogre Svenda and his family (who is of my own creation so don't bother trying to find him).

Okay so the characters available are as follows, feel free to do a little research before you choose one:

Njordr (Njord): God of sea, wind, fish, and wealth. Father of Freyja and Freyr.

Vali: God of revenge.

Forseti: God of justice, peace and truth. Son of Baldr and Nanna.

Ullr: God of skill, hunt, and duel.

Freyr: God of the masculine virility. Brother of Freyja. Father of Fjölnir (male) and husband to Gerðr (Gerd).

Loki: Trickster and God of mischief, strife and fire.

***Tyr: God of war and warriors. Formerly God of the Sky, Tyr sacrificed his hand for the good of the Gods and later was replaced as God of the sky by Odin.

***Frigga: Goddess of marriage and motherhood. Wife of Odin and mother of Baldr and Hod. Also stepmother to Tyr, Vali and others. Close companion of Eir.

***Freyja (Freya): Goddess of motherhood, wealth, love, beauty, magic, prophecy, war, battle, and death. Wife to Óðr (Odr) and mother of Hnoss (female) and Gersemi (female).

***Skadi: Goddess of winter, justice, vengeance, and righteous anger. Wife of Ullr and ex wife of Njord. Step mother to Freya and Freyr.

***Hel: Goddess of death and the afterlife.

***Bragi: God of poetry.

***Iðunn (Idun): Goddess of youth.

***Odr (more commonly known as Odin): Sometimes known as the chief of the Gods, he is God of wisdom and war and father to Hnoss and Gersemi. He is also God of the sky after replacing Tyr.

Go ahead and choose your characters. I don't mind who I play so I'll wait a little while before writing my character bio but in general, you may make them your own characters so long as you don't change what they are God/ Goddess of and don't change what powers they have.

Name: Freyja (Freya)

Reign: Goddess of motherhood, wealth, love, beauty, magic, prophecy, war, battle, and death.

Appearance: Blonde, blue-eyed, beautiful. Known as the fairest of all the goddesses.

History: Born to the second King of Sweden, Njoror, and his sister. She is the twin of Freyr, God of the masculine virility. She is married to Óðr (Odr), God of wisdom and war, and mother of Hnoss (female) and Gersemi (female). Freya is frequently prayed to for happiness in love and good weather, and is often called to assist in childbirths.

Enchanted Items:Can often be found wearing her Brísingamen, a necklace made of Gold. She also wears a cloak made of falcom feathers which gives her the ability to change into any bird, and to fly between worlds, called a Valshamr. Freya rides in a chariot drawn by a pair of large cats known as Gib-cats, as cats are sacred to Freya, and also has a boar (even Freyr only has a boar and no chariot). The boars name is Hildisvini, and is a symbol of fertility as well as a protective talisman in the time of war.

Name: Hel

Reigns: Over those who die in their beds or unhonourably. Hel's kingdom, which shares her name is a place of ice and cold, unlike Valhalla, the warrior's feasting hall. Hel was banished down here after her parenthood was discovered.

Appearance: a giantess, with skin that has a bluish black tinge and long black-blue hair.

Family: Though Loki may appear youthful, he's not too young to have a daughter. When Odin learnt about Loki's children, they were banished to the darkest depths, as far from him as possible. So Hel's brothers are Fenrir the wolf and Jormagundr, the giant serpent. What a family. Her two nephews run round after the moon and the sun, while Fenrir's tied to an island by beards and breath and suchlike, while Jormagundr caught his own tail, wrapping himself around the world.

Personality: bored. There's not many people to talk to in Hel, her family are completely useless too. She's rather bitter, towards Odin for banishing her down here, to her father for, well, being Loki, and to generally everyone else. She's not going to hesitate to take revenge on them all, as soon as she comes up with a plan. Tired old men who died in their beds are getting worse company by the minute.

Name: Bragi

God: Of poetry

Apperance: Tall; gorgeous soulful blue eyes which are incredibly hard to resist; thin framed; pale skin; always wears dark colors, normally dark purples or dark blues to bring out his eyes.

Personality: He tends to flirt a lot. His poetry touches the hearts of many fair maidens and he can entrance any human he so pleases with words from his lips. He quotes great poetic writers a lot, and is always trying to gain some women or goddess' affection. He can blend into the background a lot because he tends to be overlooked...until he opens his mouth. His voice is sweet and alluring. He can sing quite well too. (Unless there is a god or godess of song.)

That's fine, Jamie and you can bring love into it a little if you like but try to stick to the mythology side. For example, your character is married to Idun which I neglected to mention so if someone takes her, feel free to work with that relationship.

Remember everyone, a little research never hurt I'm not going to do all the work for you. I'll wait until another character or two has been taken and then decide who I want =)

Name: Iðunn (Idun)

Goddess: of Youth

Appearance: Fairly tall with sparkling, light green eyes that have even lighter streaks of orange within them. Her skin isn't as pale as most and has a slight tan from picking apples in her orchard. Iðunn usually wears a gown that's snow white at the top and fades into a dark red near the bottom. Everywhere she goes, if not holding a basket, she will carry around at least one of her apples.

Personality: Iðunn, like her husband Bragi, is extremely flirty--Loki has even said this although he was joking. Along with being stubborn and protective of her apples of youth. Her childlike, soft beauty is from eating so many of the apples she's picked. Iðunn will laugh at anything, funny or not, and is usually melodramatic.

Okay, here's my first character but I will probably play at least one other as well:

Name: Odr. More commonly known as Odin.

Position: Sometimes known as the chief of the Gods, he is God of wisdom and war. He is also God of the sky after replacing Tyr.

History and Appearance: Odr was born of giants named Borr and Bestla. He helped in shaping the earth from the slain body of Ymir, and created humankind from an Ash and an Elm tree. The god is depicted as a strong and tall middle-aged man, with a long beard, one eye and a grey cloak with a blue hood. He often walked in the mortal world observing the ways of men; he would always appear in a blue cloak and a wide brimmed hat, which was pulled down over his face to hide his single eye and his true identity.

Odr was all knowing and all seeing, and much of his knowledge and wisdom was hard won: He gave up an eye to drink from the Mimir's Well of Knowledge, and hung pinned to Yggdrasil with a spear for nine days, so that he could gain the knowledge of the runes.

In Britain Odr was seen as a leader of the wild hunt, and roamed the countryside with his pack of hounds searching for the souls of men. His horse Sleipnir had eight legs, and could ride faster than any mortal horse.

Family: Odr's relationships are often complex. He was seen to be the husband to both Frigga and Freya and father to many children including Hnoss and Gersemi. His role as husband to Frigga was more prominent in early mythology while he went more commonly by the name of Odin but later, after the murder of his son Baldr he took on the identity of Odr much more often to be husband to Freya.

I'd rather Thor remained un-taken actually. He's a bit too powerful for this storybook. Sorry.

Name: Thy

God of: War, courage and martial honour.

History and Appearance: Tyr is the son of Odin and the giantess Fjorgyn. He is shown as tall and strong, with fair skin and hair, and only his left hand. When the gods tricked Fenris into allowing them to bind him, he demanded that Tyr put his right hand in his mouth as a show of trust. When Fenris realised that he could not break free, he bit off Tyr's hand. Tyr was known for his honesty, and for always keeping his word. He always carried a sword or spear.

You can have Thor if you want him, Reyu. This was your idea afterall. Let me know and I'll add him in and change Loki to available.

Name:Frigg (Frigga)
Goddess Of: Goddess of marriage and motherhood.
Position: Wife of Odin and mother of Baldr and Hod. Also stepmother to Tyr, Vali and others. She is said to be the "foremost among the goddesses".Frigg is described as the only one other than Odin who is permitted to sit on his high seat Hlidskjalf and look out over the universe.
Appearance: Can Shape shift, but generally looks like an older woman, with yellow/blonde hair, with storm grey eyes and is very beautiful. Frigg appears primarily as a loving wife and a mother.
Personality: She is very loving and loyal towards her husband, but has a reputation of favouring men and giving them gifts that mean that other gods have little power over them. She is often called upon to help humans with childbirth and considers children to be the most precious things in the world. however, she does not like the fact that Odin has two wives, and the humans seem to always choose which one is the proper wife, rather than putting her as the head wife which she considers herself to be. She doesn't hate Freyja personally, but she dislikes the idea of her taking soem of her glory.
Attributes/Items: She is described as having the power of prophecy yet she does not reveal what she knows.The asterism Orion's Belt was known as "Frigg's Distaff/spinning wheel" (Friggerock) or "Freyja's Distaff" (Frejerock). Some have pointed out that the constellation is on the celestial equator and have suggested that the stars rotating in the night sky may have been associated with Frigg's spinning wheel. Scandinavians used the plant Lady's Bedstraw as a sedative, they called it Frigg's grass. she has a flying cloak of falcon feathers and a special necklace.
History: Odin had two brothers. One was called Ve, and the other Vili. They governed the realm when he was gone. One time when Othin was gone to a great distance, he stayed away so long that the Æsir thought he would never return. Then his brothers began to divide his inheritance; but his wife Frigg they shared between them. However, a short while afterwards, Othin returned and took possession of his wife again. alot of times Humans have said that Odin only has freyja or Frigg as his wife, and that the other is his mistress or just doesn't exist. she once favoured Baldr and made all things commit to a pledge that they wouldn't hurt him this meant that he was invulnerable to all things. Loki didn't like the idea and tricked her into telling her that she hadn't made the very young mistletoe pledge as she thought it was only like a child and wouldn't understand. He used this and a blind man to throw a sharpened stake of mistltoe into Baldr, killing him. Frigg never truely forgave him, and he has had it in for her ever since.

The Norse gods are really interesting! I never really looked at them properly, but researching them here has difinitely made me interested! This will be great!
