Demons
There are three types of demons. The types are determined by the location of creation, and each can have subgroups. The classic type of demon is created in Hell, but there are two other ways that demons can be created: some are born as the result of sin happening in a concentrated area on Earth, and others are angels that have fallen from Heaven. One known subgroup of demon is the seductive branch - the succubi and incubi. They are demons created solely in Hell.
Demons are able to change their forms at will, but the one thing they cannot do is take on the form of a living person. Since murder is a bit difficult to hide, demons just possess people. The only way to get rid of a possession is via an exorcism.
Exorcisms have no affect on a demon not possessing a person. There are other methods to getting rid of demons - holy water burns them, and the correct type of gun can also do the trick. Sometimes prayer bothers the lower level demons, but higher level ones tend to laugh it off. Though it does no physical harm to a demon, saying "Christo" in their presence will make them reveal their completely black demonic eyes.
Angels
Angels are harmed by unholy water. No one is quite sure what unholy water is, but there are many theories on how to create. Some involve taking liquid of some sort from a demon. Others involve cursing water by invoking the holy water spell backwards. A few even suggest that holy water that has been witness to an unholy act will be desecrated. Whatever it is, it has the same effect that holy water has on demons.
