Well… i was originally gonna have a theme for this with a storyline, but my black-and-white thinking and poor impulse control said “Nope!”

Anyghost, I think I may want to re-attempt this, just without a theme. I’ll just write about whatever I guess



Goals:

Not a poem, but a message + apology

Failed to Live

in my fear of unpredictable change

—of the high and low tides and of the poles’ reversals,

—I’ve enclosed my house in a circle of salt.

the ever-changing demons outside hiss and shriek,

but my life will stay predictable, even if it bores me to death.



in my fear of familiar comforts becoming worn out

—like broken CDs doomed to skip for an eternity

—I destroyed my things in a fit of blind rage.

records are thrown at walls and books are engulfed in flames;

I can’t get tired of them if they don’t exist anymore.



in my fear of an inevitable death,

of living such a minuscule and unimportant life

—of stepping outside my house to face my demons

—of finding new novels and music to enjoy

—I failed to live.

The Turtle who was Raised by Deer

no matter how many moonless nights it lives,
where the stench of petrichor stings its nose
—no matter how many insipid shrubs it eats
to suppress its cravings for jellyfish
—and no matter how many failed attempts it makes
to catch up to its swift cervine siblings,
the turtle will always look past the trees
and long for the scent of the sea
