XIV. the king of calballabing

I am the ruler of Calballabing,
A great and glorious king!
My subjects are kind
They’ve never resigned
From their posts, for the glory they’d bring!

Yet often some folks will try to ask
If my subjects can pick their tasks.
They’d never say that!
They’re loyal, but fat
off the pride in which they will bask!

Now, you may grow a little bit worried
From what I say next, don’t get too hurried
For I don’t pay my workers
They are not berserkers
Who fight in wars and eventually are buried!

You dare to question my rule?
My word is law, you fool!
Now I shall enslave you
And fully deprave you
Of your rights; this isn’t cruel!
they told me to never give up on my dreams.

so i took another nap

Spoiler! :
I really like your poems! They are all so imaginative and descriptive and have so much imagery. I really liked that poem you wrote about mosquitoes and bugs, that made me think a lot and I kind of relate to it because I often think about stuff like that and also because I am a bug myself. Keep writing your awesome poetry!
The problem with quotes found on the internet is that they are often not true.

XV. "we're almost there"

racing to the finish line,
i cross the halfway point
yet all i feel is despair
that i still have half still there

my breathing turns ragged
my steps turn into stumbles
and all my hopes of finishing first
have now been replaced by finishing worst

behind me there are some
who have already given up
they think they’ve already lost
and it’s only the halfway point they’ve crossed

now i finish a measly fifteenth
out of sixteen, mind you, but
i’ll never slow down, never relax
until i’ve finally conquered all of the world’s racetracks
they told me to never give up on my dreams.

so i took another nap

XVI. and with a heavy heart, i regret to say

it’s gotten a bit harder
to put things in my cabinet drawers
i think my journeys
have led to me becoming a bit of a
hoarder

i never really pay attention to my cabinet anyway
it’s just there to store my stories and memories

it’s also gotten a bit harder
to remember anecdotes and past missions
but when i look in the cabinet
i can no longer find anything with all this
clutter

i’m sure another person in my life won’t change much
(spoiler alert, you changed everything)

my cabinet is filled to the brim
with things i don’t need and things i don’t want.
so now there’s no more room
for you.
they told me to never give up on my dreams.

so i took another nap

XVII. toy soldier

twelve years ago you found your best friend.
you loved your toy soldiers
i still remember how you held them;
your tiny fingers wrapped around
one of its tiny little legs

i couldn’t separate you from
your toy soldier. he was your idol.
he gave you a dream.
a great dream of becoming a hero,
a hero who would save his country

six years ago you found your calling
they took you away, and you smiled so wide
without even sparing a glance back
they took this poor toy soldier away
this cheerful little boy who knew nothing of war

for years and years i waited
for my little boy to return
but you never returned
and never wrote back
my toy soldier, lost at war

yesterday they said they found your body
you went up in a blaze of glory, they said
you were crucial to this battle, they said
you were a loyal soldier, they said
you said nothing about me, they said

now all i have left is a little piece of your soul
perhaps that was what stayed with me all this time
tonight, i wipe the dust off of this little toy soldier
and toss pictures of you into the fireplace
i’m absent from your funeral; my baby boy has been here all along.
they told me to never give up on my dreams.

so i took another nap

XVIII. shower thoughts

i’m thinking about her
to stop thinking about you.
if you’ve ever stood in my shoes,
you know that it never works.

now i’m standing in the shower
punching the wall, venting my regret
don’t worry, i’m punching the solid part, not the glass
so the only thing being broken is my feelings, even further
(not that you’d worry, of course.
i’m sure you have better things to do.)

i’ve lost my will to hope for you
all i can do now is suffer
even with a bright future ahead of me
all i do is drool at a memory of you
while you gracefully fly away
into the arms of the devil himself
(i didn’t mean that, of course.
i’m just calling him a devil
because it makes me look like the victim
but i don’t think i can even be considered that.)

it’s funny; now i question whether i was even there in the first place.
they told me to never give up on my dreams.

so i took another nap

I stopped by to say that I absolutely loved "XIV. the king of calballabing" The rhyming is so perfect, it's not that it takes me about two hours to figure out two rhymings words Anywho, you made me think old kings for a sec, I love history. The demanding is neatly done ^^ Great job on the poem!

XIX. dissociation

sometimes the author within me is lost for words
when he is astounded to the point of no return
even as i try to comfort and console him
he stays staring silently, smoldering.

sometimes the artist within me loses his mind
after he’s seen the atrocities of the human kind
and no longer finds a reason to reason
nor can be convinced to comprehend

sometimes the poet within me chokes on his breath
when he feels a feeling so painful
and reaches into the depths of his heart
and preaches of the death of his heart

so he pulls out the tears that couldn’t be shed (he was holding back)
and reads the stories that couldn’t be read (he was too shy to speak)
and finds the memories that would have been dead (he was too scared to remember)
and says the words that should have never been said. (he didn’t mean it)
they told me to never give up on my dreams.

so i took another nap

XX. firebird

for now the flaming firebird
shouts and screams and shrieks
but not even bluejays bawled
with weaker words in weeks

for his flames are nothing
in the face of true desperation
they told me to never give up on my dreams.

so i took another nap

XXI. they say every rose has its thorns

they say every rose has its thorns
but i’ve never been granted the privilege
of even catching a glimpse of you

if your walls are so high
and your battalions so strong
then why am i neither a villain nor a hero
in your eyes

now i listen to inspiring tunes
to get me in the mood of writing
but when the music’s off
all that’s left is me.

is it really so selfish to ‘want’?
is it really so evil to make you my own?
maybe i should keep these thoughts to myself
instead of venting my troubles and misguided ideals
to strangers on the internet

they told me to never give up on my dreams.

so i took another nap

XXII. a brief economics lesson

i’m sure you were unaware, but i’ll let it slide today
did you know that in perfectly competitive markets, there is no gain nor loss
it’s simply equilibrium until the end of time

you are very different, but i’ll let it slide today
you’re a monopoly, plain and simple. you’ve taken the attention of
every person in the room

but do you know what is characteristic of monopolies?
i’m sure you don’t, but i’ll let it slide today
laws are put in place to restrict them. to keep them in check.
and now you have nothing

your spotlights are gone
your friends are gone. your followers are gone.
now what is your true self?

you have no substance
you have no depth. you have nothing at all.
(so why is it that i’ve fallen for your smile?)

they told me to never give up on my dreams.

so i took another nap
