Calla frowned as she looked at the men standing in the front of their cottage.
Lilly, what’s going on? Dario demanded in her head.
I don’t know, but I don’t like the looks of them. Stay hidden, please! She begged of her dragon. She walked out to where her parents were standing behind her father.
“What’s going on?” She asked looking at her parents and then back at the men.
“Where is your dragon?” The taller of the men asked.
“Excuse me?” Her dad demanded. He knew about Dario but he wasn’t about to say anything about Dario so that someone didn’t try and take him.
“We know it’s here, don’t make us flush it out.” The shorter man said, neither of them were hostile but she didn’t trust them. Everyone knew Dragons were for nobles and people with money. The poor didn’t own dragons, ever.
“What do you mean flush it out, how could someone hide a dragon?” Her mom said her face looking confused. The taller of the two men grabbed Calla’s hand quickly yanking her forward and twisting her arm slightly making Calla cry out in pain as he looked at the markings on her arm that Dario had made to mark her as his.
Calla! Dario roared in her head right before he threw the man back with one of his wings snatching Calla away and sheltering her and her family. Out of no where two more dragons landed fifty feet behind the men.
“Stay back, Tobius.” The taller man ordered to one of the other dragons. “He is only doing his job.”
This confused Calla, why wouldn’t they want their dragons to defend them. She slowly walked to the front of Dario looking the men over.
“Listen, we aren’t here to take your dragon, there is no way we could do that. Once they mark a person that person is the only one that can control them. We are here to offer you a position at the academy.” The shorter man replied shifting his feet a little. Calla heard her mother gasp from behind her and she turned to look at them.
“What would it cost us?” Her father asked arms crossed.
“Nothing, we would rather be able to help train her then allow a master and dragon learn on their own and possibly become a threat to mankind.” The taller replied. “There is no catch, if she decides to leave we won’t stop her. But it would be an honor to train her. This particular type of dragon is extremely rare, but also extremely powerful. There are only three others alive today that we know of. To be able to train a Silver Dragon would be amazing.” Dario growled low in his throat when one of the other dragons shifted their weight like the shorter man kept doing.
“Orio, still.” The shorter man said and the dragon froze like a statue making Dario relax a little.
“What do I need?” Calla asked as Dario lowered his head to let her cradle it in her arms.
“Just pack, we will supply you everything else including clothes once you get there.” The taller man smiled. “Have you ridden your dragon yet?”
“Yes, we learned how to do it four years ago.” She replied. The shorter’s man face furrowed.
“How long have you had him?!” He asked surprised.
“Sense he hatched, six years ago.” She replied rubbing Dario’s favorite spot.
“How did we not find them until now?” The shorter asked the taller one.
“It’s a Silver Dragon. That doesn’t surprise me.” The taller replied. “Time is of the esscense. If we could leave now it would be good.” She nodded and walked in her house with her parents Dario staying at the front of the house guarding it.
Do you trust them? Dario asked her as she started packing her stuff.
If they are a problem then we’ll take off and hide for a while. She replied. You can protect me, I’m not worried about that.
Good point. Dario laughed. It didn’t take her but five minutes to pack all her clothes, she didn’t have many and they were old and raggy. She carried the small bag out to the living room and her parents hugged her.
“Write us.” Her mom smiled at her. “We’ll tell your brothers you said bye.”
“Thank you, I will write. I love you!” She hugged them both then walked outside where Dario lowered her head so she could climb between his shoulders.
“No saddle?” The taller man asked.
“Dario doesn’t like the feel of them and I stay on just fine.” She replied as Dario straightened up.
“Let’s go then.” The shorter replied climbing on his dragon.

When they got to the Academy she felt completely out of place. Dario walked behind her through the hall ways where amazingly he fit. The two men took her around a court yard where she would’ve sworn everyone was pointing and staring. She stood out like a sore thumb in her torn old dress while everyone else wore new expensive clothes.
Do you want to leave? Dario asked softly.
Not yet. She replied as they walked into a big court yard where several very important people stood with their dragons.
“This must be our new student.” A very important man smiled at her. A young man that was standing next to him turned around and looked at her frowning.
