Wow. Thane wasn’t exactly thrilled about the project, but the boy was definitely good at looking like he’d rather die than be there. “Do we have to reserve the rooms?” She asked.

"What are they gonna do, kick us out?" Railyn asked, kinda wanting that to actually happen. It'd be funny and he wouldn't have to do this project.

But, he opened the door to a little conference room with a few roll-y chairs around a bland looking table that perfectly matched the bland looking carpet and walls, and stepped in, plopping down in one of the chairs.

Thane watched him, then carefully sunk into a chair next to him. Hopefully that could lessen eye contact, and make things a little less awkward, given how clearly he really didn't want to have to do this with her. Make the best of it, she told herself. It's a full semester. Full. Semester. Don't want to start things badly on the very first day.

She reached around and pulled the booklet out of her bag, setting it on the table. She stared at it. It felt like it was taunting her.

Railyn leaned into the chair, resisting the very strong urge to prop his feet up on the table. He stared at the ceiling for a moment.

Thane didn't mind the silence. But she didn't love the fact that she knew she was probably going to have to be the one pushing this project forward. "So..." She trailed off. She wasn't sure what else to say.

Railyn glanced at Thane, forgetting she was there for a moment. "Sorry. Mind went blank." He sat up and scooted his seat to the table, resting his elbows on it and staring at the booklet. "What's in store for us this semester?"

Thane flipped open the booklet, staring at the tiny, condensed print. How were there pages and pages of this many words? Surely it could've been trimmed down a little. "Umm..." She squinted, trying to force her brain to focus on the text.

Railyn squinted at the booklet. It all looked like a bunch of nonsense to him. He wasn't close enough to actually read anything but he was pretty sure he could see some math. Gross.

Thane tried to push down the embarrassment. She could feel him watching her, waiting for her to read it outloud maybe, or to summarize what everything was saying. "So how do you pronounce your name?" She said instead, pushing the booklet towards him slightly and changing the conversation entirely.

"Oh, my name? It's Railyn, like Rye bread... or something like that."

Thane nodded. "Okay." She turned back to the booklet. "Do you wanna... read it outloud? I concentrate better when I hear it." It wasn't completely a lie.

Railyn shrugged. "Okay." He grabbed the booklet that Thane handed him and glared blankly at the first page.

Thane blinked. "What?" She said, watching him stare at it.

Railyn rubbed his eyes. "It wasn't absorbing, hold on."

Then he began to make his way through the booklet, his voice monotone and completely flat of any excitement.

Thane listened, frowning as she tried to absorb the little information she could, leaving out all of the math equations she didn't yet know, and all of the big scientific words that she also did not yet know.
