The sun had set by that point, and dim lights lit up the sidewalk on the way to the library.
For a moment, they walked in silence. But, Railyn's mind was not silent at all. Eventually, his thoughts bubbled out. "I think it's insane we have to take this class. Like, what about this is needed to get the crystal?"
Thane glanced at him, then nodded slowly. “Yeah.” She paused, thinking, then said, “It’s to make sure we know our limitations, probably. We know what’s actually possible?”

Thane didn’t disagree, but she also thought that the professors knew more than her, regardless of what she thought she knew about magic. She could feel her own limitations better than a lot of people, but if they wanted her in this class, then it probably had some sort of use. “Maybe,” she said.

Thane frowned. “Physical training every day isn’t healthy. Using magic with the wrong technique can get you really hurt.” She’d learned that on her own more than a few times. She’d had to fight every day, and that meant using her magic in combat, but she hadn’t wanted to. In fact, she was really enjoying watching her injuries get a chance to heal naturally for once.

Thane blinked several times and did not return the smile. So he had had some form of formal training, or at the very least, someone who knew the proper technique teaching him. “Yeah…” she muttered.

Railyn walked behind Thane, his feet dragging more and more the closer they got to actually working on this project. He took his sweet time getting up the stairs, but he was tall enough to take them two at a time so maybe it wasn't looking like he was not happy about doing this.
