Thane’s eyes widened, and she took a small step back. She hoped Railyn had the sense to stay completely silent, and to stop whatever he was doing with the magic and the light.

Railyn's fingers throbbed and he let out a soft hiss.

Thane glanced back at him, incredulous. He needed to be completely silent. They both did.

Railyn saw Thane's stern look and offered a pitiful smile in return.

The wave stopped and his fingers exploded in pain. He involuntarily cried out.

The shadows with eyes had their full attention on Railyn now.

Thane’s eyes widened and she took several more steps backwards, feeling along the ground to make sure she wasn’t going to reach some sort of edge.

Railyn instinctively grabbed for his chakrams, but they weren't there.

He bumped into Thane as he backed up. "Voidborn?" he whispered.

“I don’t know,” Thane whispered back. She’d certainly never seen anything like it before. But it didn’t really look like the voidborn she’d seen, at least not the ones in the arena.

"I would say 'run or fight' but I don't see a place to run..."

The shadows had them surrounded and were moving in quickly.

“You can’t fight voidborn,” Thane said. “It only makes them more powerful.”

"Well do you see a way out?" Railyn hissed. It was probably was more mean than he intended it to be -- but he was quickly getting freaked, and he felt his adrenaline kick in.

Thane glared at him. “Obviously not. But you’ve clearly never had your energy drained to the point of needing bed-rest for days on end. It’s not fun, and I’m not looking to do it again by fighting a voidborn!”

Before Railyn had time to come up with a response, the first shadow launched itself at him. He flared his aura to life and launched a fireball at the shadow. It vanished with something in between a whisper and a scream.

"Not Voidborn!" Railyn shouted in relief.

Thane let out a relieved sigh. “Okay. Okay.”

Railyn lit up his forearms with energy, channeling his aura into his tattoos. A shadow passed by him and he punched it. It vanished.

Thane reached for her knuckle knives, but they weren’t there. Why weren’t they there? She never went anywhere without them! Great, now she’d have to fall back on magic. She was controlled and powerful with her aura, but what good was fog going to do right now? And it wasn’t like she could… hmm.
