"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost."
"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost."
There was an awkward pause and Amy and Ari met eyes again. James rolled his eyes freely. It wasn't as if they would see it.
"Okay, well. It was nice meeting you Tasha," he said with a weak smile that didn't reach his eyes. He gave her a nod of his head before he grabbed Ari's free hand and began to drag them away.
He had a bad feeling about Tasha. He knew from her guarded and vague answers that she was hiding something - and though she might not have been interested in him he began to wonder if there was more to Amy than met the eye.
"Pleasure's mine," she replied evenly. Ari grabbed Ursuku on the way by the feline, waving farewell to Tasha.
"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost."
James led them over back to the inn, taking them through town and letting Ari and Amy continue to chat until they reached their room and stopped outside the door in the hall. Amy and Ari had just started making their goodbyes when James grabbed Amy's attention.
"Hey. Amy. That woman back there. Tasha. She said she was a monster hunter-"
Amy's eyes went wide. James took note of her reaction, since he said so with the intention of seeing if she would even have one.
"-in town following a lead."
Amy fluttered her eyelashes for a moment and smiled nervously at James. "Oh, well uh, that's a weird occupation but uh, best of luck to her I guess."
There was an awkward pause as James looked expectantly at Amy to say her final goodbye and leave. But she had been holding onto Ari's arm - now clinging to him, with what looked to be a tightening grip.
Ardeshir frowned a little as Amy's grip tightened at the mention of Tasha's occupation. "Amy? What's wrong?"
"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost."
Amy couldn't bring herself to loosen her grip. She felt... frozen.
"I. I just. I didn't think people were still. Like. Hunting. Uh. I'm just wondering," her grip tightened even more, and she began to grit her teeth. "Who... the heck outed me???" She smiled nervously, though combined with her wide-eyed nervous gaze, it mostly ended up looking like a somewhat unsettling, angry smile.
Ari was slowly beginning to catch on. "She ain't...hunting you, is she?"
"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost."
Amy slowly turned to look up at Ari, still with the wide-eyed, wide smile on her face. She could feel her heart palpitating and her pits begin to sweat. This was not a good way to end a date. Not at all.
"She... is. It has to be me. There isn't anyone else like me here. I would sure as hell know."
He blinked. He's never really put much thought to the ethics of monster hunting, and had naturally simply accepted it as something people did to protect humans. But here he was with Amy whose situation was eerily similar for Adina's, or even Lynx's in a way; she'd done nothing to deserve this, regardless of what she was. Which raised another question: what, exactly, was Amy, if not human?
"'Like you'?" he inquired tentatively.
"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost."
Ari ducked to fit in through the doorway after her.
"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost."
James closed the door behind them, locking it and pressing his ear against the door for a moment to listen for anyone walking nearby.
"Let's just keep our voices down," he said quietly.
Amy still clung to Ari as they stood in the middle of the room, and took in a deep, shaky, breath before she was able say anything.
"I'm... well, I'm a werewolf," she whispered. "I mean, you can't really tell, when I'm in my human form. No one should be able to tell. No one should've known but... I guess I didn't have friends like I thought I did. The only person who knew was Jemma. And I mean, I really hope Tasha didn't hurt Jemma, but if Jemma told her willingly then she's dead to me."
"Why's she after you if you haven't hurt anyone?" he asks. "Just...because?"
"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost."
