I'll review your writing in 48 hours or less, guaranteed. (I have no life.) The only rule is for specific novel chapters, give me more time as I'd like to read the earlier parts of the novel first in order to get a bigger picture of what I'm looking at.

I'm trying to figure out if this excerpt works as an opening to a novel. I'd ideally like to know what you know about the characters/setting after reading the segment, and whether or not you'd keep reading.
