Any specific gift will only be available for at most a couple months (already several have been rotated out). But the gift system will be around permanently.

Just finished with the final touches to the gift system. From any user's profile, you can now view the gifts they have received and the gifts they have given. On topic pages, you'll also now see the option to give a gift next to the option to donate points.

Will we ever be able to personalize gifts? Choose our own icon or anything? It would be cool for contests.

And, a new use for the gift system: Birthdays!

Yes and no.

Allowing users to upload new gifts themselves is a very difficult thing to do, and thus something I prefer not to do.

However, I'll gladly upload custom made gifts by members. You just need to send me it, and I'll upload it for you. Just keep in mind it'd be available to everyone. Alternatively, you can always request a gift be added. So far, I've been getting the icons from:

and www.smashingmagazine.com/tag/icons/

If you find one from either of those places, just give me the link.

Five new gifts! For New Years, I've added a New Years party gift that costs just 25 points. Some others:

Master Yoda: 150 points
R2-D2: 150 points
Cat from Alice in Wonderland: 150 points
Beach-ball with star: 200 points

Additionally, got rid of the Saturn gift, the airplane gift, and three of those masks that cost 250 points. These were the five least popular gifts.

617 gifts have been given out for a total cost of 78,900 points. The total number of points in the YWS economy now stands at 820,497.

Yep, you can currently send gifts to yourself although it's a feature I keep meaning to disable. Until I do so, feel free!

Also, just got rid of the New Years gift and replaced it with a piggy gift (150 points).
