The Young Writers Society is too busy; so busy in fact that the site is using six times over the maximum limit allowed by the hosting provider for a site on a shared hosting server. I think that's pretty cool.
Fortunately, instead of simply deleting the account (as GoDaddy would do), Lunarpages (our hosting provider) has moved the site temporarily to another server. However, I have 72 hours in which to either remedy the problem or upgrade to a virtual private server (VPS). I have chosen the latter as there is no remedying the problem.
Those that have been here for a while will know that YWS was once on a VPS server, but the costs were so high that it forced me to shut down the site for two months. However, things have changed since then and the ad revenue would now more than cover the extra costs.
So what does this mean to you? First, there is a chance of disruption, perhaps lasting as long as a day although I do not anticipate as such. I will post a big bold notice an hour before the upgrade to minimize any disruption while surfing the site.
But secondly, the upgrade will mean a faster YWS. Right now, YWS is straining the server's system resources as it shares this server with 99 other Web sites. A VPS will allow more room for YWS to grow, and will give the site much greater access to system resources.
