Spoiler! :
The beginning, end, and other parts of the poem in quotations are planned to have a quote/sample from one of my favorite podcasts, the News Quiz on BBC Radio 4 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/podcasts/fricomedy/). It's a satirical quiz show where Sandi Toksvig, a hilarious lesbian who can beat up Ellen Degeneres (in terms of comedy, I'm surely not condoning violence) hosts a free-for-all satire slugfest about the week's news. There are two teams of two and it's really quite awesome, give it a listen. However, now, about this quote. It summarizes my strong feelings that men and women are pressured into roles in society, for better or worse. Andrew Maxwell was on May 27 2011's podcast when one of the topics was a Toronto family who had named their daughter Storm and decided not to tell anyone if it was male or female. It's really comedy gold, and better when you hear it, as is all British comedy. The podcasts are only up for a week so I can't post a link to it.

Sample of Friday Night Comedy BBC Radio 4
…"It's wiiiierd man, it's creepy. Children—I got one of each gender. Boys like boys' things and girls like girls' things,
"like boys' things"
"girls like"
"boys like"
"like boys' things"

When you're born if you're lucky
Your people want the best for you
Not just toys, hopefully
But homework, birthdays, Sonic 2
But then they kind of get confused
Because they think they know it all
They think they know what's best for you
Whether it's football and parties
Or cooking and curfew

"girls like"
"boys like"
"like boys' things"

"Now that there's another woman in the house"
"You need to stay inside and mop that floor"
Sorry, you just made me want
To live in junkheap squalor
Made me ditch tae kwon do
Because my neck was getting too thick for you
Kept me off the soccer field
Said "only lesbians play sports"
But whenever hell was in the house
I got out and hit the courts

"girls like"
"boys like"
"like boys' things"

Just what is the prob-lem
With females growing muscle
Is it any different from
Speaking up in politics
And winning in a tussle
Because I was like this
Before I hit my teens and argued with you
My skateboard, shaped like a rocket
I was fighting kids outside the school

And furthermore where's the law
that says guys can't play with unicorns
That they have to bully others
Or be stuck in the friend zone
Some of the manliest
Know how to express themselves
Discipline, intelligence,
Kindness, they're genderless

It's all the same story
Girls with their dress
Guys when their muscles flex
We're told to live in order to impress the other sex

"girls like"
"boys like"
"like boys' things"
"girls like boys' things"

I made fun of my man
Whenever he told me the truth
How he felt, I laughed at him
Thinking I was cool
I have to change my thinking too
Girls and boys can both be fools
I won't ever say again
"Didn't think guys liked eucalyptus"

"girls like"
"girls like boys' things"

The NBA is in a lockout
Boys need their money
But the WNBA just rocked out
Maya Moore and 'Monie
The Lynx were the first
Minnesota team since the nineties
To win a title for their state
Lindsay, Taj, incredible chemistry
It's about ball, not balls
It's about breaking history

When I do give you your grandkids
I hope I have a girl
She can trash the house
And play videogames to a fault
I'll take her to the court
and hand her the ball
I'll make her a dunker,
I'll make sure she's strong
She'll beat Blake Griffin
She'll coach the Celtics
Stay up late listening to Jimi Hendrix

... (silent beat)(pause)

But she can wear pink if she wants.
And watch shows I don't like at all.
And if I have a boy
His dad can teach him to make steamed chard
Clafouti, Greek yogurt parfaits, fettuccine
And they'll harvest from the garden in fall
While me and your granddaughter are doing flips
and learning parkour together on the wall

"You can't have a toy that's....unisex, what are you going to give them, a pink...dinosaur?"

This is really good. It's passionate and I can tell you have really thought about what to write. I think overall what you have wrote is really creative and something I wouldn't usually go for to read, but I did like it.

Just what is the problem

Overall, I did like it, and that is the only picky bit I have, so you just got lucky! :)

I can definitely see this coming from a hip-hop/rapping artiste and you've done a fantastic job with the rhythm and the choruses which are the actual dialogue from the show really keep the lyrics fluid. However, that being said, if you are planning on really performing this, I would suggest singing it rather than just talking (e.g.-Fort Minor - Where'd You Go?, Eminem ft. Dido - Stan - In these songs the choruses are very nicely sung and add to the flow of the already impressive lyrics).

This is quite an impressive piece and I can definitely understand the message you're trying to portray. This truly sounds like a clean and crisp rap with great skill in the rhyme and use of words.

You've definitely done a great job writing this and I hope you write more like this. Keep the ink flowing! :)
It's not about the weight of what's spoken.
It's about being heard.
