A seed cracks,
A sapling sprouts.
Growing,
Spiraling,
Reaching for the sky.
Branches and limbs,
Shooting out,
Grasping,
Stretching,
Flying forward.
Hurry! Others call,
You’re almost there!
Up and up and up!
Faster, hurry, faster.
The tip of a limb…
Straining,
Brushing a breath away
From the sky…
Falling away.
The weight,
Pulling down the tree,
Brings it
Crashing,
Snapping
Speeding to the ground.
Now all that remains
Is a poor record of
Ambition and hope:
A rotten,
Moss-covered
Log,
Hidden
In the weeds.
A/N: This time the only requirement was to use imagery, and to keep the poem a free-form one. Free-form I got... imagery, not so much. Quality help would be good to, but I *really* need imagery help, as that's the point of this assignment: to use imagery.
